DateQuestionAnswer
2012-01-26 13:00:00What semi-recent prospects have you been most wrong about (in either direction)? Why were you wrong?
(SC from Minneapolis)
I was wrong about Engel Beltre. I thought the tools were starting to mature. Unfortunately, maturity has to occur both on the field and off. (Jason Parks)
2011-08-10 13:00:00Is there anything positive to be taken from Engel Beltre's season?
(ramjam36 from Dallas)
He's only been in one fan related brawl so far this season (Jason Parks)
2009-12-11 13:00:00How are you feeling about Michael Main and Engel Beltre heading into next season?
(ramjam36 from Fort Worth, TX)
By all accounts, Main will be healthy so I'm very optimistic. Beltre has the tools, so I'm somwhat optimistic, based on age, but at some point he HAS to make adjustments are it's going to be all wasted. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-13 14:00:00Any chance that Halladay will overcome his supposed aversion to pitching in Arlington enough to accept a trade to the Rangers, and any chance the deal can be done without including one of the Rangers top pitching prospects. Perhaps something like Hunter, Kiker, Font, Davis, and Engel Beltre.
(Ira from North Texas)
Maybe, and no. The Jays have no reason to accept a deal like that. They have to get back a top-15 prospect, and two other top 75 guys, at least. The Teixeira deal is the model (although the numbers may not match perfectly). (Joe Sheehan)
2009-02-16 14:00:00Question 1: In conclusion, Kevin, which system more closely resembles the Great dust bowl: The Astros or the Tigers? Question 2: What has Engel Beltre shown to merit inclusion on the list that you haven't seen from Martin Perez?
(Or from Dallas)
1. At least the Tigers have a shining oasis in Rick Porcello. 2. Utterly ridiculous tools. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-02-03 13:00:00Which impact Prospect (who hasn't seen big league action yet) makes a a big splash in Spring Training?
(DanLong from NY)
I'l go with a healthy Colby Rasmus, since Matt Wieters is way too easy. If I need someone more obscure...Engel Beltre. (Joe Sheehan)
2008-07-22 13:00:00What is the ultimate ceiling of Engel Beltre? He is absolutely murdering right handers. Is he along the mold of a Grady Sizemore (less some power)?
(BrowningNagle from Louisville, KY)
Wow -- long time no see Browning. Beltre's ultimate ceiling is off the charts. I haven't seen a player in the Midwest League who can match him on a pure tools level. That said, he has about 2% of Grady Sizemore's approach, and that has to change -- luckily he's get plenty of time. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-05-29 13:00:00The best prospects don't get traded anymore? Does the Garza-D. Young swap last offseason not count?
(Junker23 from Boston)
No. Young was an established player with a year-plus of service time. Garza had had two MLB stints, was off prospect lists, and at that was never a top-tier guy. And that, I think, was the best prospect deal made. Who was better last year? Salty, maybe? Engel Beltre? Carlos Gomez? (Joe Sheehan)
