2005 The movie about Angels' GM Bill Stoneman should be called "The Eternal Sunlight of the Open Mind." Most every other team relies on scouting reports to segregate relievers into a Calvinist elect/non-elect, major league/Quadruple-A hierarchy while ignoring actual performances; the Angels are open to anyone. Drafted in the 32nd round in 2001? Bring him in. Monty Stratton? Why the heck not? Guy with no arms but can shoot laser beams from his eyes? Maybe he can get lefties! Andrade has all his limbs, and as his age and the 32nd round selection suggests, little else to boast of—except results. Andrade doesn't have great stuff but dominated the Texas League in '03. The Angels sent him back again, and he did it again. At this point there is no reason to think that Andrade can't sustain his success. Claimed off waivers by the Blue Jays in December, he's a solid candidate to make it this season.
2004 Strictly a performance listing, and quite possibly the only time he'll make the book, but Andrade has 174 strikeouts and just 38 walks in his last 1081/3 innings. That's pretty good for a 32nd-round pick. He was added to the 40-man roster over the winter, and is worth remembering as a guy who could be trade bait come July.
