DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-07 11:00:00 (link to chat)Any chance for the whispered notion of Cheslor Cuthbert moving to second is workable given his tool set?
(Bill from Bozeman)
I would worry about the athleticism and agility necessary to develop into a legit 2B. Maybe. (Jason Parks on the Top 50)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jeff, thanks a bunch for these chats. I feel that Cheslor Cuthbert's offensive work this year is a little under-appreciated, based on decent power numbers and control of the strike zone for a 21-year old at AA, but I'm worried that Dozier may move him to 1B and he doesn't fit the offensive profile there. Thoughts on Cuthbert, and is he close to a move to Omaha?
(Bill from Bozeman)
Cuthbert is improving in his ability to drive the ball, but he still makes a ton of outs because of his approach and free-swinging ways. If he has to move to first base, it's not going to work. I've had some commenters mention that there's a move to second base in the works, which I haven't seen anywhere else, but that would give his bat a chance to play. Theres absolutely no reason to promote him given that he's young and hasn't mastered a level yet. He should be in NWA all year. (Jeff Moore)
2014-04-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Cheslor Cuthbert seems to struggle mightily after every promotion. 1) Is this common for players that are young for the level; and 2) Where do you see his overall prospect status as a 21-year old now holding his own in AA? Does he have projectible power?
(Bill from Bozeman)
Yes, it is something that happens more often with younger players for all the reasons you'd expect. You have to give him credit for going back and handling Wilmington, an extremely difficult place to hit, especially for power as a right-handed hitter and anyone not named Joey Gallo. Cuthbert has more power than he's shown in games thus far, but it's more doubles power than home run power. Credit the Royals for refusing to promote him until he has mastered a level. That's one of my biggest pet peeves. (Jeff Moore)
2014-02-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where do you see Cheslor Cuthbert going from here?
(Bill from Bozeman)
If it were me, back to Northwest Arkansas until he proves he can hit there. I hate promoting prospects before they master a particular level, even if they were young for that particular level. (Jeff Moore)
2013-04-04 11:00:00 (link to chat)I was wondering how Cheslor Cuthbert looked this spring and has his conditioning improved from last year?
(Drew from Chicago)
I wasn't really impressed. Sucks. I really want that kid to make it, but the #want never looks like #want. It often looks like #slack. (Jason Parks)
2013-02-25 11:00:00 (link to chat)What does Cheslor Cuthbert need to do to this year to make everyone forget about his lethargic play in Wilmington and make the Top 101 for 2014?
(Nick from KC)
Stay healthy and continue the maturation process (on and off the field). Way too early to give up on the player. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2013-02-15 12:00:00 (link to chat)Who has the best chance to be a break out prospect for the Royals in 2013 or 2014?
(chiroclimber from Kansas City)
Numbers were down in 2012, but I'm still a big Cheslor Cuthbert guy (Jason Collette)
2012-08-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)I recently saw Cheslor Cuthbert play. His swing appeared busy and top-heavy. He made solid contact in an at-bat, but it certainly seemed to be all arm power. Is this a concern going into next season? Do you think he's ready for a jump to AA?
(Steve A from Detroit)
I don't think he's ready to jump to Double-A based on his '12 performance, but I'm not on the developmental team so I can't speak to his goals in that department. His swing has been iffy, with sloppy mechanics which hinder his bat speed and ability to drive the ball with authority. I haven't been thrilled with his overall effort at times this season. Not sure what that means. (Jason Parks)
2012-05-21 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Cheslor Cuthbert? His late season decline last year was attributed to fatigue but it has continued this year to the tune of a .218/.302/.296 line. Is he stil really, really, really tired from his first year of full-season ball or should we be really, really, really concerned?
(ORWahoo from Tigard)
We're going to talk about him on this week's podcast. Jason just saw him in person and has thoughts. (Kevin Goldstein)
