2014 Due to publishing agreements, the 2014 player comments and team essays are only available in the Baseball Prospectus 2014 book (available in hardcopy, e-book, and Kindle).
2013 Ian Krol rebounded from a lost season to reach Double-A, and though his control numbers are a positive sign for the health of his elbow, opposing batters had no problem squaring up his strikes.
2011 Kicked off his high-school team due to an alcohol-related incident, the A's took a risk by dispensing just under $1 million to steer Krol away from college. He spent his pro debut making that payout look like a bargain. He will never light up a radar gun, but Krol has above-average velocity for a southpaw, a curveball that flashes plus, and perhaps the best changeup in the Midwest League. Added to his pitching arsenal is the kind of poise and command that many big-leaguers can't match. Krol doesn't have the kind of physical projection one looks for in an elite prospect, but he's plenty good as-is.

2011-05-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Where's Ian Krol? It doesn't looked like he's pitched yet this year.
(Tom from Madison)
Strained forearm in spring training; very similar to the Andrew Bailey issue. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-03-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who do you like to round out the A's rotation out of Brandon McCarthy, Josh Outman, Tyson Ross, Bobby Cramer, and the forever-injured Rich Harden?
(Tom from Madison)
What, you mean in terms of finding a fifth ma to fight for the honor of being fifth starter? Ian Krol's a way's off yet. Pedro Figueroa's coming back from TJS and will start the season on the DL--that has to make him an honorary competitor, no? (Christina Kahrl)
2011-01-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Outside of Grant Green, Chris Carter, and maybe Ian Krol, is there anyone in the A's system you like?
(Dave from Chicago)
You're missing someone I put in the Top 101 . . . (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-05-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Ian Krol so far?
(Dave from Chicago)
See Thursday's feature on him. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-04-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)Any compelling reasons to head to Geneva to see Kane County play this summer? I mean, aside from the pork chop sandwich and the fact that they have a better beer selection than either the Cubs or Sox?
(ChuckR from Addison, IL)
There are always compelling reasons! Max Stassi is a huge reason, local product Ian Krol could be a good arm, and while guys like Dixon, House and Richard all have their share of holes, it's also probably the most athletic outfielder in franchise history. (Kevin Goldstein)
