BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)having a hard time with good bench players on my team. Josh Harrison, Domingo Santana, Viciedo Willingham and Rios I have a present. I am looking at kike Hernandez Logan Morrison marwin Gonzalaz and Jnuior lake. what would be your call out of these guys for back up bench hitters in dynasty league points.
(OB1 from NYC)
Lake is a combo guy who will kill your average. Marwin has a ton of positional flexibility and can provide positive production a bit. LoMo is going to give you a low average and middling power. and Hernandez is a wild card. Wold advocate for Marwin, LoMo, Lake, then Hernandez. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-01-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Settle these arguments for me please: 1) James Loney or Logan Morrison in a 5x5 league (12 team, AL-only)? 2) How many dates are you allowed with a girl in November/December before you have to take her home for the holidays?
(dipotonotdipoto from brooklyn)
Give me Loney. I'm not a big fan of Morrison, especially not in that park. The second question is an interesting one. A lot depends on the situation, but I'd say you're allowed as many as you want. Boundaries with family are big to me, and I think 2 months is not that long to force family on a potential significant other. (Craig Goldstein)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Logan Morrison's #nohomojustlomo hash tag? Sure, he probably means no harm, but it sure makes him sound ignorant, and more than a little prejudiced. On the day of Collins, he was tweating that a gay teammate could help him with fashion and that people are too intolerant of intolerance. /facepalm.
(JT from Michigan)
No thoughts on Morrison—I don't follow him and haven't seen the comments in question—but in general I'd rather admire Jason Collins' courage than acknowledge attempts to leech off it. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-10-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hello, old friend! James Shields, Jeff Niemann, Alex Torres, Cesar Ramos, Alex Cobb, Wade Davis or Chris Archer all likely not going to remain with the team past Winter Meetings, let alone Spring Training. How do the Rays better their roster, knowing there's a huge logjam of pitching and there's room for improvement offensively. James Shields kicked it up a notch after the deadline, but can the Rays withstand another horrible 1st half from him again?
(jlarsen from chicago)
I don’t think Archer is going anywhere. Part of his problem was philosophical—he pitched off his slider more than he should. He seemed to solve those after getting a taste in the big leagues and realizing his fastball plays against the big boys. Otherwise, he doesn’t fit the profile of someone they’d part with at this juncture in his career.

I do see Tampa Bay trading pitching. If you want a name I’d say Nick Hundley. San Diego has enough catching, in the majors and in the minors, to move him for value. He’d fit nicely on Tampa Bay’s roster. I don’t have a good feel for what the market at first base or DH will be like (if they don’t bring back Luke Scott). Logan Morrison’s name might pop up if Miami is tired of him. (R.J. Anderson)
2012-10-04 14:00:00 (link to chat)What do you make of Logan Morrison? He came up and hit well. Since he has dealt with the knee injuries, he has not hit well. With this recent knee surgery, will the hitting return next season?
(Tommy from Btown)
I still like Logan Morrison a lot, and expect him to come around if healthy. He'll be on my list of fantasy sleepers for 2013, and I think he'll at least return to his 2011 levels of production. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-04-19 14:00:00 (link to chat)You can choose three young outfielders to start a franchise. Any player with less than three years of service time is eligible. Who do you take and why?
(Hudsonbelinsky from Albany, NY)
Sheesh, this one's going to be tough on the fly...

I'll take Cameron Maybin in center field, for the defense and the potential that he develops more power. Giancarlo Stanton in right field for the glove, arm and the potential to go "arrivederci" on any pitch. And Logan Morrison in left field, because being an epic tweeter is a must for the Rathmans. (Daniel Rathman)
2012-03-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Derek, how badly will Marlins Park hurt Miami's hitters? Marc Normandin has a post today at SBNation indicating things don't look promising from a HR perspective. On a related note, would you keep Gaby Sanchez at $13 in an 8-team, NL-only, 5x5 league with no keeper limit concerns?
(GBSimons from Boise, ID)
Yeah, I've been saying for a while that the deeper fences could hurt their power hitters. I'm pretty much avoiding Marlins power guys this year unless they come at a discount. Stanton is really expensive, so I'm not owning him anywhere despite really liking his skills. John Buck could be a catcher bust since all he has is power. Logan Morrison might not be as bad because the far right field fence is actually shallower, and as a lefty with pull power he could manage to not lose much. In an 8-team NL-only league, I throw Sanchez back at that price unless your keeper system causes some heavy inflation. (Derek Carty)
2011-11-15 13:00:00 (link to chat)How do you value Josh Johnson for 2012? I could potentially get him in a lifetime keeper league for something like Logan Morrison or Justin Smoak. I generally prefer hitters to pitchers, and Josh Johnson is a pretty good example of why. Is this a risk I should consider? My team is a contender and I need to add pitching (that will be the focus of my draft) as I tend to keep many more hitters than pitchers.
(Jake from Kalamazoo)
He's elite when healthy, but the shoulder injury is obviously worrisome. Still, for the price of Justin Smoak, I think my trigger finger gets too itchy and I make the deal. (Derek Carty)
2011-09-02 14:00:00 (link to chat)KG, thanks for answering my podcast question about Logan Morrison's development path. Do you think he can be 300/400/500 guy or is that a little too rich?
(Tim from Portland, OR)
That's a little too rich for my blood, but I don't think it's totally insane. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-08-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)With all the hullaballoo over Logan Morrison recently, what are we to make of his odd development pattern thus far? Last year he showed impressive contact and on-base skills with little power other than of the doubles variety. This year he seems to be selling out contact for over-the-fence power. With a profile like that, what kind of player would you expect going forward? Is this someone still putting it together or do you tend to take recent data over early data to form impressions going forward?
(Rob from Alaska)
I think it's the former -- he's got, what, 600 major league at-bats? He's going to be fine, and I expect his on-base skills to return while seeing him retain significant power. He'll hold up his half the "Patience and Power" corner outfield until the Marlins trade him for one-fifth of what he's worth in a few years. (Ken Funck)
2011-02-28 13:00:00 (link to chat)True or false: Logan Morrison will hit .300+ with 20+ HR within the next 3-4 years.
(Sam from Burlington, NJ)
50/50. I'd bet on the 300, but the power ceiling has always been a question. He hit TWO last year in 244 ABs. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-03-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who are your favorite players to watch this season? Who ya rootin' for?
(Goo Goo the Cat from Prowlin' Around, PA)
Rooting for? Well, I suppose I'm no supposed to root for players, but c'mon, how can you help it? I'm hoping to see John Danks bust out and get the sort of attention he deserves, and for Gordon Beckham to put everything together and be the star we thought he'd be. I want to see Wandy Rodriguez deliver that back half over a full season. I'm looking forward to seeing Carlos Zambrano get back to being in the news for his pitching. I'm wondering if Andy LaRoche puts up more WARP than any other NRI in anybody's camp if he can win the A's job at third base. I want to see Jim Thome's 600th career home run in person. I want to enjoy a full season of Starlin Castro at shortstop, having had to spend too much time away from Chicago last summer. I want to see what Mike Stanton and Logan Morrison do for the Fish, since that's about as entertaining a tandem of hitting prospects of similar vintage on any team anywhere. That's a few, but there are more. (Christina Kahrl)
2011-03-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)You mentioned Logan Morrison. I haven't heard much about his defense. Does he have any pluses at any position?
(Steve N from Delaware)
He casts a smaller shadow than Albert Belle, so he's sure to kill less grass standing out there. (Christina Kahrl)
2011-01-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)It's the baseball apocalypse. You can only pick five current major league ballplayers to save. You don't have to base it on stats or team or likeability or anything. Who do you pick?
(hannah from bay area)
What a question! I love watching Adrian Gonzalez hit, so I would like that to continue. Logan Morrison's Twitter account has guaranteed him a spot in this Final Five. Jim Thome can be saved, but only if he promises to sit in BP and hit taters all day long for my amusement as repayment for doing so. Someone needs to pitch to these guys, so it should be Jamie Moyer if for no other reason than he's Jamie Moyer. Willie Bloomquist would probably survive whether I picked him or not. Maybe he's baseball's version of the cockroach. (Marc Normandin)
2011-01-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)for 2011: billy butler or Logan Morrison?
(Tony from Albuquerque)
A. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-12-14 13:00:00 (link to chat)Marlins' OF Logan Morrison has already dubbed the Phils rotation R2C2. Shall we start printing up the t-shirts?
(dianagramr from NYC)
Wasn't that the droid with the flat top and a bad motivator? (Christina Kahrl)
2010-09-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Jay, I may be too late to respond, but YES I was talking only in the NL. It seems they have a ton this season with: Heyward, Posey, Logan Morrison, Stanton, Starlin Castro, Pedro Alvarez, Tabata, Strasburg, Chapman, Mike Minor, Leake, Ike Davis... all in the National League.
(Bobby from New York)
Ah, got it. That's a tough question for another day - there's a lot to like there, but we've already got less reason to be excited about Ike Davis, for one. What really matters is how these guys develop beyond year one, anyway. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Please rank the following in the order in which you think they will make their big league debuts: Mike Moustakas; Pedro Alvarez; Logan Morrison; Freddie Freeman; Madison Bumgarner; Jeremy Hellickson. Does anyone in this group make a significant fantasy impact in 2010?
(Chillin' from Waiver Wire)
I'm not terribly good at this kind of thing, but what the heck:

Alvarez, Moustakas, Hellickson, Morrison, Bumgarner, Freeman

I think the first three will see at least a sprinkling of big league time this year. The others I'm not so sure about. (Tommy Bennett)
2009-05-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)KG, Any update on the injury status of Logan Morrison?
(Grant from Fort Lauderdale)
Should be back in June, some talk of moving him to left field, which is very interesting. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-03-13 13:00:00 (link to chat)I keep hearing Lyle Overbay comps regarding Logan Morrison. Please tell me he'll hit with more power.
(Josh Conklin from NH)
His top PECOTA comps include Kent Hrbek, Greg Walker, and Justin Morneau, none bearing the least resemblance to Overbay. (Steven Goldman)
