| 2008-10-24 14:00:00 | After multiple major surgeries, what kind of production should we expect from Eric Chavez next season and beyond? (Dave from Chicago) | I've always viewed the litanies of injuries of both Chavez and Bobby Crosby as enough for the A's to move strongly towards Plan B options at both positions; that they haven't remains one of Billy Beane's biggest shortcomings. I expect nothing from them, and I think the A's might eventually come around to the idea that Jack Hanahan and Donnie Murphy aren't gonna cut it. (Jay Jaffe) |
| 2008-01-31 13:00:00 | Thanks for your great work. What type of numbers do you see Stephen Drew putting up this year? Does .270/.360/.450 sound reasonable or a pipe dream? And what are your thoughts on Donnie Murphy, assuming he gets at-bats with the A's? (Dennis from LA) | I'm not much of a Murphy fan. I think he's a decent bench player at best, and if he's playing every day for you, that means something, somewhere has gone horribly wrong. I'm very, very optimistic still about Stephen Drew's future, and I don't think that line is a pipe dream in the least. (Kevin Goldstein) |
| 2008-01-17 14:00:00 | Who would you like to see replace Scutaro: Jack Hannahan, Donnie Murphy, or Kevin Melillo? (Drew W from Vienna VA) | If Melillo could handle short, that would be lovely considering he does a bit of damage against righties, but as a practical matter, I think it's Donnie Hill^H^H^H^H^H Murphy.
