2016-09-08 19:00:00 (link to chat)#1 prospect in 2018, 2019 and 2020?
(Chris from Texas)
This is an extremely tough question because ETA's vary by organization pretty dramatically these days. For example, Yoan Moncada hasn't even been in the Red Sox organization for two full seasons and he's already in the major leagues. I'll indulge the question and speculate wildly. Gotta give the people what they want. If I'm jumping past next season, the two names that stand out to me fantasy-wise are either Victor Robles or Ronald Acuna. The dark horse in my book is Isan Diaz. If I'm in a full-scale rebuild looking years into the future, these are the building blocks and franchise cornerstones I'm targeting. (George Bissell)
2016-09-08 19:00:00 (link to chat)The next Yoan Moncada?
(Craig from CT)
Here's the thing. Moncada was a once in a generation type of situation as an international free agent given his age and talent. If he were eligible for the MLB Draft, he most likely would have been the #1 overall selection. That type of talent doesn't become available very often. We've seen a huge influx of July 2 guys make an impact in recent years, so I understand the interest, but in a lot of cases we just don't know until they make the transition stateside and begin to face actual minor-league competition. There won't be another Moncada for a long time. (George Bissell)
2016-09-12 23:00:00 (link to chat)The next Yoan Moncada?
(Mike from Boston )
Mmm...Yoan Moncada? I dunno, shouldn't he still count as unfulfilled potential? (Wilson Karaman)
2016-08-11 14:00:00 (link to chat)#1 Prospect in 2017,2018,2019 and 2020?
(Andrew from Maine)
Woof. That's a question. I'll say Yoan Moncada in 2017. Victor Robles in 2018. Victor Robles in 2019. Someone We've Never Heard Of in 2020. (J.P. Breen)
2016-08-08 14:00:00 (link to chat)#1 prospects in 2017, 18 and 19?
(Chuck from Trenton)
Yoan Moncada, Victor Robles, and err.... Anderson Espinoza, maybe? There's probably a guy or two who haven't been drafted yet who may wedge their way in there. That is all my pure, barely-educated guessing. (Nicolas Stellini)
2016-07-19 14:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada are you bullish? Wondering what I can expect if acquiring in a fantasy league for the next 3-4 years. Will he hit higher than .220? 15 HR/30SB? Or is there more there?
(D from Fresno)
I'd be really surprised if he only hit .220. That swing is absolutely gorgeous. I'm not going to sit here and tell you that he's the next Robinson Cano (prospects will break your heart and all that), but he's really good. (Nicolas Stellini)
2016-08-01 16:00:00 (link to chat)Is Moncada have the tools move to third until Pedroia is done in 3-4 years at 2B?
(caseyj15 from Medford, OR)
Yes. While shifting to any new position isn't as "automatic" as some casual observers suggest, Yoan Moncada would likely be fine at third base until Dustin Pedroia was done there. (Mike Gianella)
2016-07-05 19:00:00 (link to chat)Brendan Rodgers or Yoan Moncada? Pick one and why?
(Jason from FL)
They're both top prospects, but I haven't seen either one so it's difficult for me to answer, sorry! (Kate Morrison)
2016-06-16 21:00:00 (link to chat)#1 prospect in 2017? 2018?
(Brent from ATL)
#1 prospect in 2017 is Yoan Moncada. #1 prospect in 2018 is Brendan Rodgers. (Bret Sayre)
2016-06-21 20:00:00 (link to chat)Top prospect in 2017, 2018, & beyond?
(FutureIsNow from Right Here)
2017: Yoan Moncada
2018: Rafael Devers
2019: Gleyber Torres (Scooter Hotz)
2016-06-21 20:00:00 (link to chat)Top Prospect in 2018? 2019?
(Dwayne from B Town)
I gave this answer earlier but I'll repeat it:

2017: Yoan Moncada
2018: Rafael Devers
2019: Gleyber Torres (Scooter Hotz)
2016-05-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)This year's Victor Robles?
(Greg from NYC)
I honestly don't think enough attention is being paid to this year's Yoan Moncada. He is slashing 318/450/500 with 30 steals in 41 games. That is Rickey Henderson stuff. (Jim Walsh)
2016-05-31 19:00:00 (link to chat)Well if Brendan Rodgers is indeed playing more 2B which bat do you like better as a future 2B, him or Moncada?
(Jake from State Farm)
Give me Yoan Moncada if he stays long-term at 2B. (James Fisher)
2016-04-25 23:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada and Andrew Benintendi have been too good for A ball so far. If they keep at it, how long will they be there?
(Wendell Rijo from Portland)
I'd assume both at least spend the first half of the season there. As Adam noted in his write-up this morning, High-A was already an advanced assignment for Benintendi, and same for Moncada. That both are thriving offensively is great, but there's additional seasoning and development that goes into it as well. I'll get a look at Portland when I go back to the homeland for a couple weeks in August, certainly hoping both have made their ways to AA by then.

2016-03-09 19:00:00 (link to chat)Mike, I need big time help here. I'm so lost on who to keep. I've made a couple bad moves that just seem to keep snowballing after drafting yoan last year and trying to send him down to my minor leagues (the guys with the top 2 waiver spots wouldn't budge and still won't). 12 team H2H points league... Which 8 do I keep??? Yoan, schwarber, Carlos Gomez, Franco, Carpenter, A Jones, Pujols, Quintana, Samardjzia, sonny Gray, Cueto, Shelby Miller, Teheran. Thank you sooo much!!!
(Clark from Corn Maze)
Yoan Moncada, Kyle Schwarber, Gomez, Maikel Franco, Matt Carpenter, Sonny Cray, Johnny Cueto, and Adam Jones. (Mike Gianella)
2016-01-14 20:00:00 (link to chat)Can Lazarito garner as much hype and IFA money as Yoan Moncada did last season?
(Ron from Texarkana)
I doubt it but then I have no inside information and don't know if any front offices or scouting departments are as hyped about him as they were about Moncada. (Mike Gianella)
2015-12-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are the chances Yoan Moncada is the top prospect in all of baseball by the end of the season?
(Tommy from B Town)
I'm not a prospect guru, but the fact that the chance isn't zero says what needs to be said. Elite talent. (Matthew Trueblood)
2015-09-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada a top 5 prospect next season?
(Eric from Boston)
He'll be close. He misses my personal top 5 - Seager, Giolito, Urias, Crawford, Berrios.

But I'm a Berrios homer. (Doug Thorburn)
2015-09-09 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada - number 1 prospect next year?
(Dave from NJ)
For Boston? Probably. For baseball? Probably not. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-08-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada - top 5 prospect next year?
(Eric from B Town )
(shuffles feet and looks down at the ground nervously) Mayyyyyyyyyyyyybe. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-07-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada is the number 1 prospect next season?
(Craig from NJ)
It's going to depend who debuts in September, but right now only prospects not in the Majors I have over Moncada would be Corey Seager, Kyle Schwarber, Joey Gallo and Nomar Mazara. If you want to make the case for Giolito or Urias, I can see that too...That entire Greenville Drive infield is just a plethora of awesomeness right now. (George Bissell)
2015-07-06 13:00:00 (link to chat)Could Yoan Moncada be number 1 next year?
(Jeremy from Philly)
I'm not sure why we keep trying to jump people over Giolito. He's going to still be in the minors for a while and there was a legitimate discussion about him for number one this year. (Jeff Moore)
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada - that good?
(Tommy from Chi Town)
As of right now we have no reason to believe he wonít be. 110-some odd low-A PA's shouldn't change anyone's opinion. David Lee put together an excellent report on his initial viewings that went up Monday: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=26778 (Wilson Karaman)
2015-07-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada or Eddy JUlio Martinez?
(Jay from CT)
Iíll take Moncada (Wilson Karaman)
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)How good can Yoan Moncada be?
(James from LA)
He could be a Top 10 hitter, with maybe the potential to be a Top 5. I haven't seen him (which is my bad; he was in nearby Lakewood, New Jersey recently), but the ceiling is really high for good reason. (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-30 19:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada or Eddy Julio MArtinez?
(Mike from NJ)
Moncada, just because we have some data to look at. If I just go off of the scouting reports it's almost a tie, but for every Jose Abreu there is a Yasmany Tomas, who is good right out of the gate but doesn't live up to 100% of the hype. (Mike Gianella)
2015-06-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Assuming that all of the prospects that have been called up this year exhaust their prospect status, what would be your updated top 5 at the moment?
(AA from FL)
I don't have a list because I'm not a prospect guy. If I did make one I'd probably have some combination of Yoan Moncada, Lucas Giolito, Corey Seager, Miguel Sano, and J.P. Crawford. (R.J. Anderson)
2015-06-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)Are you worried about Yoan Moncada's slow start?
(Greg from California)
No, not at all. He just turned 20, he's adjusting to stateside ball and it's been 85 PA. The Red Sox have enough wrong with them. No need to go looking for more bad news. (Ben Carsley)
2015-06-16 20:00:00 (link to chat)If the Red Sox were characters on Game of Thrones, who would they be? thanks
(Bill from Los Angeles)
This is super played out ...

... and as such, right in my wheelhouse.

Xander Bogaerts: Jon Snow
Mookie Betts: Danaerys Targaryen

Ben Cherington: Ned (tried to do the right thing, will probably lose head)
Wade Miley: Catelyn (doesn't do much but yell)
Rick Porcello: Robb Stark (handsome, ineffective)
Clay Buchholz: Sansa (WHAT EVEN ARE YOU?)
Eduardo Rodriguez: Arya (so much potential)
Brock Holt: Bran (takes a lot of forms)
Joe Kelly: Rickon (why do you exist?)
Mike Napoli: Hodor (...yep)
Christian Vazquez: Benjen Stark (plz come back)

John Henry: Tywin (still calling the shots)
Dustin Pedroia: Tyrion (most watchable/resourceful)
Larry Lucchino: Cersei (...)
David Ortiz: Jaime (lost a step but still badass)
Blake Swihart: Tommen (keep trying, little guy)

John Farrell: Stannis (stern but no one seems to listen)
Melisandre: Pablo Sandoval (is your power real or what)
Our Hopes/Dreams: Shireen

Hanley Ramirez: The Hound (unlikeable but powerful)
Koji Uehara: Brienne (still rooting for ya)
Daniel Nava: Pod (you too!)

Junichi Tawawa: Bronn (just gets stuff done)
Allen Craig: Janos Slynt (just doesn't)
Shane Victorino: Jorah (always hurt)
Jackie Bradley: Theon (has he not suffered enough?)
Justin Masterson: Beric Dondarrion (should not have been revived)

Craig Breslow: Doran (smart, ineffective)
Alejandro De Aza: sandsnake 1
Alexi Ogando: sandsnake 2
Tommy Layne: sandsnake 3

The Yankees: Roose Bolton
The Rays: Ramsay Bolton
The Blue Jays: The Night's King
The Orioles: Mance Rayder

And two for the book readers ...
Yoan Moncada: Young Griff
Rusney Castillo: Patchface (Ben Carsley)
2015-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Yoan Moncada - Future #1 prospect?
(Ben from SD)
Possibly, depending on how long he's in the minors. I will say though, I can't remember the last time a 2B was a top overall prospect. Doesn't mean it shouldn't happen though. (Jeff Moore)
2015-06-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)Rank the Greenville infielders in order of wishing they were Phillies: Michael Chavis, Rafael Devers, Mauricio Dubon, Javier Guerra, and Yoan Moncada? (I put them in alphabetical order for you to avoid any cognitive bias based on how they initially appeared)
(Steve from Phila)
Love this question. I'll take Devers, Moncada, Guerra, Chavis, Dubon. I love Devers. He's got that innate bat speed and barrel feel I was talking about earlier. It's just natural and pure. Mondada is great for the obvious reasons we've talked about. I also love Guerra. He's a stud and a legit big league shortstop defensively, and he has more pop than you'd expect from his thin frame. I've seen him go out opposite field and it's impressive.

It's too bad the Red Sox have played themselves out of the need for Cole Hamels, because that's a system deep enough for the Phillies to make their demands and actually have them obliged. (Jeff Moore)
2015-06-15 19:00:00 (link to chat)Are you worried about Yoan Moncada's slow start?
(Brad from DC)
No. He hasn't faced quality pitching in forever, and he might just be one of those guys who takes a little while to get his bearings in a foreign environment. I read a good interview -- damned if I can find it now -- where Boston's scouting director was talking about how they're helping him adjust to all sorts of things on and off the field, which makes me think that the organization knows they'll have to take it slowly with him. (Brendan Gawlowski)
2015-06-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would Yoan Moncada be the first pick if he was in this draft?
(Tommy from Boston)
Assuming the bonus demands weren't for say....a small country...yes. (Christopher Crawford)
2015-06-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on the value of Yoan Moncada? Does he still have the same upside despite performance thus far and numerous errors (non-fantasy stat but affects playing time I would imagine)?
(Silverback38 from VA)
You're correct to pay attention to defensive deficiencies, but it's also important to remember that Moncada is 20 years old and adjusting to a new culture. It's far too early to be worried about him. In my mind, he's still between 100-125 in my personal dynasty rankings. A really good prospect -- just saddled with unfair expectations. (J.P. Breen)
2015-06-10 14:00:00 (link to chat)This Eddy Julio Martinez for real? Next Yoan Moncada?
(James from Texas)
A 20-year-old can't really be "for real" when he hasn't played stateside to this point and is projected to need a couple years in the minors. He'll certainly get the Moncada hype. I don't think they're similar players, though. (J.P. Breen)
