BP Podcast: Episode 82: Shoot A Laser At The Popcorn

by Kevin Goldstein

Not much going on in the world of baseball as teams gear up for spring training, so we read plenty of our listeners fantastic emails, and some not so fantastic, as clearly, some of you still have hangups about sandals and men that wear earrings. Then we do some prospect talk and follow that up with our special guest Dirk Hayhurst, one of the most refreshingly honest players you will ever hear from, and we highly recommend his new book, Out Of My League. Then it's the goofy stuff, including a talk about Real Genius and how it's fair game to write about on a baseball site.

BP Podcast: Episode 81: I Don't Want To Drink This Anymore

by Kevin Goldstein

Let's keep it short. Let's just do an intimate show. Those were my thoughts heading into Thursday night, and all I really learned is that Jason and I don't know how to stop talking. Our listeners came up big in the email department, we have lots of prospects to talk about, and with the Cubs signing Gerardo Concepcion and the Josh Hamilton story breaking, we had some current events to discuss as well. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 80: He Hit Both Basins

by Kevin Goldstein

It's the return of Jason and a very long show as we have lots of prospect lists to discuss, as well as my unhealthy obsession with baseball media in the digital age. To help us conquer the latter, we enlist Richard Deitsch of Sports Illustrated to discuss the new world of breaking news and then to Tim Dierkes of MLB Trade Rumors about his position as the gatekeeper for breaking stories. It's a fascinating subject, and both guests are up to the task. As always, there's your emails and the goofy stuff, and set aside about three hours, as this is a long one.

BP Podcast: Episode 79: White People Love Gravy

by Kevin Goldstein

The show returns sans Jason, but official substitute host Jorge Arangure comes through with another yeoman performance. We go through your emails and discuss the news of the week, and then our Special Guest is Ike Barinholtz. A previous guest from Episode 20, Ike returns with some baseball news, as the comedian/writer will be a cast member on the upcoming season of Eastbound And Down. Then it's the usually goofy stuff and Jorge coming to terms with Thanksgiving.

BP Podcast: Episode 78: The Pocket

by Kevin Goldstein

And we're back from the holiday break, and while there hasn't been much baseball news, there's still two hours of yammering. After going through your emails, featuring our new proven successful dating advice, we settle in for an hour or so of intense prospect talk, and then we're joined by multi-media superstar Jay Jaffe to talk about Hall of Fame voting and what lies ahead in the controversial 2013 class. Then we have the usual goofy stuff, including our longest What Are You Drinking segment ever, as Jason gets mad.

BP Podcast: Episode 77: I Don't Drink Pie

by Kevin Goldstein

It's the final podcast of the year, and with the free agent frenzy slowing down, Yu Darvish fills the void, so we talk about Monday night's wackiness, what the Darvish signing means to the Rangers, and then we get intellectual with our special guest is Mike Plugh. An American Professor in Japan who has consulted with major league teams, Mike discusses the transition for Darvish on a cultural level, and breaks out a few big words. That's it's all the goofy stuff you expect, and happy holidays everyone. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 76: Water Makes You Work

by Kevin Goldstein

After a week in Dallas and a show that was getting ready for Dallas, we're back with our first 'normal' show in a while. It has all the usual stuff with emails, talks about all the big moves, reviews of some prospect lists and some Yu Darvish predictions. Speaking of Darvish, our special guest is Bobby Keppel, a former big leaguer who has spent the last two years in the same rotation with Darvish, and he breaks him down for you, while telling some tales from his own fascinating career. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 75.3: Just My Smile

by Kevin Goldstein

It's our final show from Dallas as the great Jay Jaffe joins Jason and I for the introductory segment, and then three more interviews, as Mark Gonzales from the Chicago Tribune joins us to talk about the future of the White Sox, Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle joins us to talk about the new media dress code, and then we score the interview we couldn't get Monday, as we finish up with Yolanda, the media room security lady.

BP Podcast: Episode 75.1: Running, Like, Really Hurts

by Kevin Goldstein

So what happened on day one? Pretty much nothing, but that's OK, as Jason and I can talk briefly about nothing, our encounters with sexiness, and then special interviews with Rob Neyer and Dylan Hernandez wrap everything up. Let's hope for more action tomorrow.

BP Podcast: Episode 74: You're Off To A Bad Start

by Kevin Goldstein

It's a short show, because we wanted to get to all of your great email. Still, we yammer for about an hour about a variety of subjects, have a quick That Just Happened and tell you of our plans for three shows next week in Dallas. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 73: Country Mouse, City Mouse

by Kevin Goldstein

It's a very special Thanksgiving episode of the podcast. Well, not really, but we do talk about food at the end. With the new CBA announced on Tuesday afternoon, we are joined by Jeff Passan of Yahoo Sports to discuss the good, the bad and the ugly of the new agreement, and our other special guest is my mother, with her own That Just Happened. In between we read tons of emails, talk about prospects, awards and Neftali Feliz' new job, and at some point even bring friend of the show Jorge Arangure in to add some holiday cheer. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 72: Get Back To The Frosty

by Kevin Goldstein

It's a combination of fun and serious this week. We begin with lots of prospect talk, as we walk through the Seattle Mariners Top 11 list and finish off our discussion of every team in baseball's minor league system with the final five teams. We couldn't have a show without talking about Yoenis Cespedes, so we discuss the video, what kind of player he really is, and then are joined by Dominican broadcaster Kevin Cabral, who is the voice you hear at the beginning of the show. Kevin talks about his involvement in the video, as well as some changes going on in the winter league there. From there, things get somber, as we discuss the Wilson Ramos kidnapping and are joined by pitcher Scott Drucker, a right-handed pitcher currently in Venezuela, who takes you inside the clubhouse on the night the news broke, and talks about security measure for players there. Then it's onto the goofy stuff with music, drinking and brushes with greatness. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 71: 80 Grade Clown

by Kevin Goldstein

We had no time for guests. We just wanted to do a quick show and talk about some off-season beginnings and a lot of prospects. How it ended this long we're not sure. We're both talkers, and let's face it, tales a clowns and blood have to be included. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 70: The Real Life Bimbo Bear

by Kevin Goldstein

Hey! Look! It's a normal sized show! Jason and I go through the email, talk about Theo, the CBA announcement that wasn't, and plenty of prospect before being joined by friend of the show Andy McCullough of the Newark Star Ledger who talks to us about the World Series, and what it's like to cover one. Then it's extended goofy stuff with dueling That Just Happened stories. Please note that there are some audio issue that I did my best to address, as my audio levels fluctuated for unknown reasons. It's not perfect, but the only other option was now show, and as always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 69: An Imaginary Lizard On A Desk

by Kevin Goldstein

We couldn't do a show last week for a variety of reasons, but we make it up to you with nearly three hours of fun. We preview the World Series with Anthony Andro of Fox Sports SouthWest and Deadspin founder Will Lietch, we talk a ton of prospects, our special guest is Rafael Rojas was a fascinating talk about baseball in Venezuela, we have a listener of the week with rock star Riley Breckenridge, and we even deliver not one, but two Nots. We hope you enjoy, and somehow make it all the way through, as this show was a lot of fun to do.

BP Podcast: Episode 68: It Was The Heat Of The Moment

by Kevin Goldstein

. . . And we're back with a full episode. After going through your emails, both sane and insane, we walk through the playoffs so far, and then discuss Jason's time in Arizona checking out the instructional league. Then we continue our team-by-team prospect talk with five more clubs, followed by a fascinating talk with Phil Rogers about what is going on with the Cubs search for a new general manager. BP Podcast: Episode 67.5: Messy Festivals Of Crap

by Kevin Goldstein

Hey folks. For a variety of reasons that we only kind of get into at the beginning, there was just no way a full show was going to happen this week. Still, we wanted to preview the playoffs and let's face it, Wednesday night provided just way to much to discuss. So one segment, all baseball (well, for us), and we'll be back next week with a more . . . traditional episode.

BP Podcast: Episode 67: It's Just Squirt

by Kevin Goldstein

The major league season is coming to and end, but we're still podcasting. After going through your emails, we talk about how we kind of sort of have playoff races and then dive into a new feature where for the next six weeks we'll spend around five minutes on every system in baseball, going in reverse alphabetical order. Then we are joined by Peter Abraham of the Boston Globe to talk about the Red Sox slide, and it's onto the goofy stuff with a quick rant about the state of discourse with the release of Moneyball this weekend. As always, we hope you enjoy.

BP Podcast: Episode 66: Stay Out Of Trouble, Sarge

by Kevin Goldstein

Jason's back in Brooklyn and back on the show, and after reading your emails and doing some wrap-up of the minor league season, we're joined by the great Sam Miller to talk about the Angels and the American League West, but he ends up being the opening act for the return of my mother, who tells you who the best prospect in baseball is . . . really. Then it's the goofy stuff and as always, we hope you enjoy.
