Insightful, eloquent and powerful. Thanks, Gabe.
Bah - sorry, "They are ranked in order of how much I like them the rest of the way".
Paul - is this listed in your perceived in-season rank?
I see PECOTA still has a love affair with Jeff Keppinger.... Ugh.
Cool, but under the fantasy link, the PFM still shows as last updated on 05-07. Is that right?
Thanks for the response. It's all relevant when you have nearly 2hrs of disposable time. Just giving food for thought to make things easier for (and possible help increase) your audience :)
No question, just want to state how much I love this series!
First time listener with a couple suggestions (not sure if it's been raised before)....1hr 40min is a long podcast without knowing who is going to be discussed and where player "chapters" begin.
1. would it be possible to list which players are being discussed in advance on this page?
2. would it be too hard to list at what time each player is discussed so you can fast forward to the relevant bits?
Arenado or Donaldson for ROS in points league rewarding total bases? thanks.
How does Cody Buckel get that line? Two HBPs?
No Corey Hart? Or is he well past the 25%?
In high school we had this rule to give the pitcher slightly more time to rest between innings. Obviously Houston doesn't need to worry about that anymore...
More of this, please.
I gotta fever and the only prescription is more gifs! http://goo.gl/P0Gi
...but seriously, BP, gifs add such a great layer to analysis.
Oh man, the Minor League Update format is tight now. Love it.
Love the new layout. Would really like to see the players' DOB next to their names if possible?
Hi Paul - looks like Harrison is 2-starter this week. If you had one spot, who do you like this week?
vs. CLE (Jimenez)
vs. SEA (Vargas)
@ MIA (Buehrle)
G'day Derek. Who do you like ROS in non-keeper points league: Anderson, Harvey, Skaggs or Marcum?
Part of the problem is that baseball is not offered as a school sport here, so children are not likely to get involved unless they know someone through association.
Hi Michael - in non-keeper points league that stresses TB, how would you rank these guys for ROS? Chris Carter, Fowler, Bruce or Cody Ross? Thanks!
Hi Drew - great article. Would love to hear your thoughts on Dave Nilsson's (Milwaukee Brewers) handling of the International Baseball League of Australia. I've been playing baseball in Syd/Mel for the last 12 years, and the general consensus from old timers was that he dropped the ball and nearly ruined national baseball before handing things over to the ABF.
/cool story bro moment - I faced Peter Moylan in 2005 in Melbourne...I had one at-bat....3 pitches.....3 called strikes....thanks for coming.
Love these articles. Thank you!
Quickie - in non-keeper points league, which side do you take?
Starlin Castro & BJ Upton for Trumbo/Bonifacio?
Love the Twitter section!
Looks very tasty, BUT any way to read this for those without an e-reader (eg Kindle)?
Off topic stat location question: where can one find SIERA on this site? Thanks.
Thank you for a timely response!
Taking residual post-injury effects into account, any guesses on Gardner's ROS splits upon return? Are there playing time concerns?
Just wanted to drop a note to say that while I never comment on these "Call-Up" articles, I value these immensely for fantasy purposes. Thank you!
So, probably asking the obvious, but does this app become invalid after 2012?
Very timely commentary on Reddick :)
Holy Haren, please be healthy. This week's matchup is a dream...
Gamel or Chris Davis in non-keeper points league ROS? Thanks.
Seriously, this is just awesome. Among the great articles/analysis, this is a true distinguisher from the competition.
+1 for GIFS !
Any chance to have Quality Starts (QS) and Complete Games (CG) added? Thank you.
Hi Rob - who do you like better for the rest of the season in non-keeper points league: Morse or Nelson Cruz? Thanks.
Who do you prefer in non-keeper points league moving forward: Lucroy or Napoli? Thx.
Another vote for Friday or weekend. thanks!
Satire, yes, but not an impossible leap of logic. What's next? Necklaces donning the Christian Cross?
Another request for Complete Games (CG) and Shut Outs for pitchers.
Another vote for QS to be added...
Agreed - BP's not forgetting the bread and butter...they're just *adding* variety. Keep 'em coming.
This is fantastic. Any chance you can keep this going throughout the season as sites update their rankings?
Thanks for the article. Who would you start below if you were chasing Wins this week?
Garza vs NYY
Gallardo @ SF
Scherzer @ CHW
More keeper/dynasty articles. Thanks.
Fantastic article...I'd love to see this format from other BP writers, as well.
Hi Craig - I'm chasing wins...who do you like better this week: Scherzer or Garza? Thanks.
Re: "Self-Congratulation", I just wanted to reiterate the point that, despite never leaving comments, I read your Hot Spot articles religiously. A wonderful fantasy mainstain...!
Hey Marc - which two would you rather have McLouth, Chris Davis, or Pena on your fantasy bench in a non-keeper points league?
Agreed; an iPhone app would be fantastic.
Is Danks really starting twice? CBS Sportline shows him with a single start on 05/12...
Hey Mark - in a standard non-keeper points league, would you rather have Coghlan, Gardner or A. Jackson moving forward? Thanks.
Anyone have recommendations for an iPhone baseball game?
Hi Marc - in a non-keeper points league, would you rather own Headley or Blake for backup 3B role? Thanks.
I'd dare say "most fantasy players who are committed enough to subscribe to BP" play in multiple leagues of various sizes...
Love this addition to the Fantasy Beat! Question: who do you prefer as a double starter next week: Penny @ARI, @SF or Danks vs TB, vs SEA?
Love the Chat integration at the bottom of player cards...!
Just noticing that there aren't a lot of comments on these "Hot Spots" posts, so wanted to say I'm a big fan of this feature...please keep it up during the season!
Talk about big heads.... Will on Twitter is the schoolyard bully. His inflated ego is unfounded and very off-putting.
For those of us who browse BP at work, it would be fantastic to have access to a transcript of BPR sessions. There are several text-to-voice applications on the market to meet this end...
Where are you seeing ADP?
This is a great initiative, but Fangraphs has the edge on you because you can sort by smaller time segments (eg, by week 14-days, month, etc)...
Geez, I'd love to know how avoiding colon cancer is skill based...
If the argument is to encourage large ASG rosters so that a variety of players are seen, why not make the ASG a best-of-three contest? Spreading "55 players in, 17 pitchers used" across potentially 27 innings mitigates Joe's complaint and helps promote more players of the game.
[Note: doesn't solve the injury potential, which IMO is the biggest risk, either way]
Further to this, what kind of running game can we expect out of Gordon moving forward this year? Surely his hip recovery will prevent much coveted SB's?
Is there any chance you could start including the players' age after their info line? Eg, Name, Position, Team, Dvision, Age.
The "Scouts' Views" is one of my favorite tid bits on BP. Its great to hear observations from the trenches...
"he has he led the majors"? I don't know - there's something about Matt's writing style that seems too bloggish for me; sentences just seem thrown together - written as one might speak, not as one should write.
Worst opening sentence ever.
Brittany's article was awful. Not much more to say.
As Goldstein pointed out....this article is limiting.
The first paragraph is terribly written. I had to shake my head a few times to make the words/numbers fall back into their correct places. The rest of the piece doesn't get much better with a clear lack of succinctness - a professional writing course might serve Brian well. Thumbs down.
I also felt the players selected may have been cherry-picked to serve the article's thesis, but I concur with everyone else.....best article so far this week.
Re: "Hats off to those who scooped up Matt Wieters"....Really? What fantasy league are you playing in which Wieters was on the waiver wire after April 1st?
Echoing some of the previous comments, this might suit a beginner's site, but this is FAR from BP material.
This. Bring on more articles that challenge the reader. Most serious fantasy players use an Excel spreasheet to render/manipulate their personal rankings... I love reading about different techniques to help formulate.
You lost me at "to understand how VOFP is derived, you must first understand how the NFBC works".... It was hard enough to follow until that point (very wordy); why would I want to keep reading after you introduce variables to which 99% of readers can't relate?
In a nutshell? Boring. Never captured my imagination with his writing and never provided enough insight to make up for a lack of creativity.
Agreed with daiheide and others...do a Google search on 'Pavano AND fantasy' and you'll get this same spewed analysis/outcome. Go ahead and plug in Lester, Zimmerman, or Jurrjens for the same effect.
I actually like this kind of analysis for fantasy, as anyone who plays can digest these kinds of stats and numbers second nature....what I don't like is reading about the same "breakout" or "risky" players on every site... Please dig a bit deeper for players not over-analysed.
Does BP or another source post QERA stats? I know how it's calculated, but strangely I can't find BB rate or K rate (nor can I find the number of PA's a pitcher's faced to manually determine the BB and K rates)...
Hi BP, please consider posting more sumissions than just the winner! It'd be great to see all the different perspectives...
Agreed. Is there anyway to implement a change log for Depth Charts and PFM?
This would be very helpful indeed - I'm trying to use vlookups in Excel and it breaks for players like Chris Davis...
THIS. Agreed, this is a great business model and helps contribute to BP\'s \"community feel\". Keep up the good work!
Here here....Nokia S60 (Symbian) user here...
I thought for sure the A\'s would make a stab at Swisher. Oh well. And, yes, I\'d *love* to see them give Giambi another shot.
Any word on Kinsler\'s Sept 9th comeback? Thanks!
