If you are thinking outside of the box, here's one. Trade Chase Utley for a stud like 3B (move Polanco to 2b) or a very good Outfielder. Utley has been hurt the last two seasons and his value will most likely go down going forward. It might be easier to find a quality 3B that a good Outfielder to replace Werth.
The team is getting older and at some point you need to rebuild. Trading Utley should not diminish the chances of getting to post season play for the next two years and depending who you get may even increase your chances.
"All indications are that this is just adhesions (scar tissue), which is uncomfortable, but nothing to be overly concerned about."
This is from Will's chat on Monday concerning Nathan. Can't be right all the time.
Well, it looks like Will needs new Twin sources.
At least we agree on the number of games, not the winning team. Should be a good series. One interesting note is the weather forecast in Philadelphia is rain for the next four days. Can Charlie Manuel get lucky again and get a rainout and have Hamels start games 1 and 4 and not have to go with a 4th starter? Sometimes better lucky than good.
As a life long Philadelphia area resident and Phillies fan I enjoyed the article. It was well written and filled with a lot of facts, my kind of article. I'm not so sure how interesting it will be to fans across the country. I don't agree witht the statement that the Rays " jumped" at the chance to sign Burrell and though Burrell was well liked by the fans especially at the end of his stay I remember a lot of boos and his performance being sub- par for a some time. I will agree that Pat treated the fans better than the fans treated him. A class guy for sure.
Jamie Moyer seems to be missing from the Phillies as the #4 starter.
Jason Stark in the most recent issue of Baseball America had these stats on the Yankees. Since 1976 the Yankees payroll has totaled 2,323,246,829 that\'s right 2.3 billion. They have had the highest payroll for 10 straight seasons, 12 of the past 13,17 of the past 25 and 21 of the last 33 in the free agent era.
The Players Union looks prety bad here. According to reports the Union had 6-OXO has being OK to use and then retracted that after Romero had tested positive. Looks like what luck Romero had was all bad.
In a conference call today not surprisingly G. M. Amaro when asked did he believe that Romero was \" guilty\" of this, could only respond that the team backs baseball\'s testing program. Yikes, don\'t want him on my side.
Here\'s the problem from my end, a life long Phillies fan. Because of a rule change in 2007 ( who knew ?) the Rays top of the 6th counted and it would not have under the old rules. I think that gave Ray\'s an advantage and hurt the Phillies. I think that an inning under last nights conditions should be the same for both teams. In good weather would they Rays have scored the run?, would Rollins have caught the ball? Would Hamels have better control of the ball?, who knows but in A World Series game we shouldn\'t have to ask the question. The game should have been suspended after the botom of the 5th.
And by the way is there a worse spokeman for baseball than Bud Sleig? He was horrible in his post game explanation of this.
In order to have Hamels start three games you would have to have him on board with that. He has not wanted to pitch on short rest all year and has stated that over and over. One idea is that it is supposed to rain on Saturday in Philadelphia. Pray for a rainout and maybe he would want to pitch a game 7 on short rest.
