Not for me, he has a reliever profile from my viewings in Rancho Cucamonga. Secondaries lack above-avg. potential. Would be in top 15 though.

I value plus-plus defense from a premium position pretty high. If it were someone else on the BP staff, they might have ranked him lower or not ranked him at all. Think about it though, if he can hit .220 and his defense is a 7... that can start in most places. Think Brendan Ryan (even though he's an 8 defender). He's had a long career in the bigs and contributed a ton of value. Erisbel is only 24, he's got time.

I wouldn't argue a 30. But no matter what, he's very slow... splitting hairs really

It is completely fine; for the longest time as a child up until my teenage years it was the only condiment allowed. Ketchup, hot mustard and relish is the perfect trifecta.

That's fine, criticism is always welcome. Yes I've seen two starts. But reports from my colleague Ron Shah and talking with scouts in between and during his starts has helped paint a clearer picture for me. I probably should have mentioned that in my article. I've talked with numerous people about Appel and have listened to their opinions which helped form mine. I don't think this was dramatic or reactionary by any means. I stand by what I said in this article.

If it's true they re-worked his mechanics (and that would be a big positive for his makeup as well because I've heard he doesn't want to change anything about his delivery), then I'm curious to see it in action. They've given him A LOT of time off between starts recently, so they're keeping him very fresh. Both positives. Again, I'm not writing him off. I liked the first start I saw. But the second was just so negative, and had so many problems that it was hard to ignore. Remember, he still hasn't shown he can pitch every 5th day yet... Let's see how he reacts physically and mentally to the challenge.

Yes; both his posture and balance have taken a step back from college and his appearances with Team USA. I had a chat with biomechanics guru Doug Thorburn about it.

I would be much more optimistic about Appel if the stuff were crisp and remained crisp in both his starts, but they didn't. The velocity dipped, and he had a tough time putting the fastball where he wanted. It's not just that he needs more time like you all say, it's that he's a different pitcher than he was when drafted. I saw a report that he hit 96 mph in his last pitch last night, so that's a good sign. Still, it's a long way to go.

It's a possibility. If they wanted to move him to 3rd I might throw an 8 on his defense there. It's not like he's pushing Tulo off SS though so...

I submitted a report on Teoscar Hernandez, it just hasn't been published yet. Should be in a couple days.

His left leg is a little open to the pitcher, meaning he has two eyes on the pitcher for a time. Then when he loads he comes back square.

His ceiling is whatever he wants it to be. He's only 17 and he doesn't turn 18 until August. It would be foolish to completely disregard the chance of him becoming an ace, but there's still a ton of risk, so a #2 or #3 pitcher is the safe bet.

On July 17th, Jason Parks wrote this about Urias: http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=20952 Also, he wasn't on the top 10 but he was mentioned in the "prospects on the rise" section with this comment: "2. LHP Julio Urias: High value international signing from Mexico, Urias has projection and pitchability, already working his fastball in the upper-80s, touching the low 90s with a promising CH/CB secondary arsenal."- Jason Parks.

Haven't seen Herrera, so I can't comment on him. But Story has been just killed by scouts all season. Just looking at stats, you could be right.

When he introduced himself I thought he said "I'm Awesome Hedges". He probably thought it.
