Be nice if BP would bring Baker back.
Very little chance of something like that happening, right Jason?
I don't remember Mays falling down in the outfield however I do remember him falling down running the bases.
If Ball Four was seminal, what does that make The Long Season or Pennant Race
both of which pre dated Boutons book?
Loved Baseball Weekly, I still have the first 2 editions, but it didn't hold a candle to the old Sporting News when it was the "bible of baseball".
Christina you are much too kind.I suspected Ritchie was trying to emulate Steve Martin's humor but I had it pegged for "the Jerk".
Perhaps a better Wright one liner for the Dbacks comments might have been "I put instant coffee in a microwave and went back in time".
McClellan will surprise.
Ryan Anderson. The next Randy Johnson.
It's just an article. What's to cancel a subscription over. Was it my cup of tea? Perhaps not but I did learn something new. Thanks Emma and welcome to BP.
Welcome to BP Jason. Good stuff.
Thank you very much for that. I thoroughly enjoyed it.
I enjoyed this very much. Very informative and White was very forthcoming.
Sirens of Titan best of em all
Where would Grant Desme fit on this list?
What possible level of interest could the Rays have in Felipe Lopez? On a scale of 1 to 10 it has to be 1. Do they not have enough utility infielders already on the roster? Who does Lopez replace, Aybar? Brignac? Rodriguez? Methinks someone is pulling your leg John.
A lot of the fun left with Jim Baker. Not saying that BP hasn't remained interesting and informative but a little more whimsy while doing both would be welcomed.
Jashnew, better to be a silly American than an ignoramus. Canadians have a thanksgiving day also. not to mention the misuse of the word "your"
I'm all for trying new things but I can't help thinking I've seen this pitch on late night cable TV.
I can defend, albeit weakly, the HBP on Inge and the other bad calls. With one exception. The purpose of having extra umpires for the post season is to call fair or foul on balls hit down the line. In other words the sole purpose you are there is to make that call. The job was invented to make that call. No billowing jersey. No ball/runner convergence.Just a simple one side of the line or the other. Thats it. Thats why you're there enjoying the extra pay. How in heavens name do you blow that call?
Jennings outplays Zobrist both offensively and defensively so no Zobrist is not the first option for RF. Agree he should take over at 2b but given the option Jennings/Zobrist for RF it has to be Jennings and you find something else for Zorilla.
Easy answer: He replaces the two Gabes. There is a big shining light outlining his path to the bigs and its aimed at RF in the Trop. Not so easy answer: Perhaps they trade Upton and play Rodriguez in RF in which case the light swings a little left toward CF.
Why do you feel they are they mutually exclusive?
You're being more than a bit silly Richard. I for one want to read Christina's analysis. Been doing it for years and I don't want it diluted by some other wordsmith in order to meet a deadline. I want to read her unique perspective and I don't care how long it takes her to write it. I dare say that a good many readers feel as I do.
Glad to hear you are one on one with Adam Rubin. I'm not, so I enjoy reading about the controversy here. I am reminded of the old saw about censorship; if you don't like what what they put on TV change the channel. In this case, turn the page.
—because of their crowded 40-man and their full spread of pitching talent, they already had to give up Jason Hammel to the Rockies this spring.
Not to mention Edwin Jackson
Kevin, from what I can tell you still aren't doing enough. My god man how could you not give Daniel Descalso his props? Some suggestions:
You hold a chat every other day so that we fans can ask about our favorite prospect du jour in a timely manner.
You increase this list to a top 100 so its more inclusive of those deserving props. In fact you should be flexible and increase it to 101 or 102 as the need arises.
Write more columns on the draft so that every single pick becomes a household name. Then when a reader asks about a player he won't seem so obscure to the rest of us.
Drop the monday 10 pack and make it a saturday 25 pack so you'll have something to do on the weekends.
Make your BP Idol comments a little longer so you can squeeze in a prop or two to some prospect thereby killing two birds with one stone.
Sure you can write about players from asia from what a scout tells you but have you ever been there? More field trips to the far east to help with your cred(to stay with the vernacular).
Offer to give Kiley McDaniel a hand when you have some free time and get familiar with the Dominican Republic. They heve prospects too you know.
Hope I was of some help.
Can anyone, Will perhaps, tell me what exactly steroids do to enhance performance? Seriously, I see names that the drugs helped and names that they didn't. Is it as simple as those that can hit a baseball hit it farther and those that can't hit a baseball...
The most surprising thing for me was when Jimmy Piersall went after two kids that ran on the field in the old...old Yankee Stadium. Catching one with a good kick in the ass.
Guilty pleasure had to be Jackie Brandt in his turn as an Oriole.
Was Dave Righetti a failed starter? No more than Cal Ripken was a failed 3rd baseman. Bold moves are Bold moves. Ignore all the noise. It still might be a good idea.
Kevin I see where Jose Canusi is really tearing up the Northwest Ponce Industrial League. I know you do these updates everyday in addition to Monday Ten Pack and BP idol not to mention the occaisional chat but you haven't mentioned my guy yet. I know you can take time out to at least give me a personal response about my favorite player. And don't tell me the GM of his parent club doesn't have you in the loop on his timetable for being called up. You know; you're just not sayin.
Small point, but it was Crawford and Longoria that went back to back on Rivera.
Casey Stengel was the "Old Perfessor"; so yeah, technically you got it wrong.
Best bet on the board is texas over 73.5
Would love to see Jim Baker come back or at least contribute an article once in a while. Most of your stuff is pretty straight forward and thats appreciated but Baker alawys lent a little humor while informing.
Having watched the Rays all year I can tell you that Maddon had no one on the bench who could lay down a bunt. You are over analyzing the Howell at bat. If Maddon wanted a bunt, Howell was as good a choice as any without spending a PH. Regardless of what subsequently happened on the mound. Now if you are saying he shouldn\'t have considered the bunt well thats different.
Even carryinng a piano, there is no other first baseman in the American League who would have even made it close. Pena is not slow.
