This was one of my fave BP articles since I subscribed! Incredible insight and also love the McC Pablo HR article that followed. As a Giant fan, if I'm watching the live MLB-TV feed while on my PC and have it minimized in the background, I ALWAYS stop to watch the Pablo AB's. Learned early on not to blink with this guy at the plate.
"Sometimes it’s enough to be outside with other people just watching a baseball game." Amen.
Best/worst highlight reel ever. Somewhere, someone edited that video, added that soundtrack, uploaded it, and deep down said, "Yep, nailed it." Euro to the max.
Great article man. Should be required reading for the casual and passive fans who, for whatever reason, lack perspective about the skills on display at an MLB game. The 12th pitcher on any roster would have a K/BB ratio of about 25,000/1 if he faced the fans seated at the ballpark! Plus, any article that gets Tracy Miller some deserved run in BP wins.
"...which suggests demand for this title is low." made me laugh so hard while reading this in bed that I woke my wife at 130AM. Thanks a bunch Mr.Miller.
I can't identify exactly when Wilson went from being quirky to annoying in my book, but it did happen. Yet still I watched interviews with him in 2012 where I came away with a ton of respect for the man's intelligence and character. Cut through the caricature for a second and what you've got is a standup guy who's earned much respect in his own clubhouse. Plus, he's a brilliant mind in a game that has more than its fair share of high school locker room types. As a baseball fan I'm anxious to see if he can again become the guy we saw in 2009 and 2010. I grew far more tired of his command issues in 2011 than I ever grew of his act, and I'm honestly kinda geeked to see his 2013.
I definitely admire the Giant's ability to scout/land players like Arias, Gregor Blanco, Andres Torres. They're all sort of scrap heap guys left for dead who have each made major contributions to the club the past few years. Then there's that Vogelsong fella.
Great article about a guy who's been instrumental thus far.
Joe Jackson?! C'mon man! You can argue the merits of my fave angry young Brit, but Shoeless Joe is a shoe in.
