I was taken aback by Buster's comment on diminishing defensive abilities. Lumping J.D Drew in with Lowell's repaired hip and Varitek's inability to throw out runners, has more to do with his age than any defensive deficiency. This when I have issues with analysts/writers that don't look at statistics. They talk in generalities or utilise single events or incidents to draw conclusions. People should remember small sample sized analogies lead to mistakes. While he is providing analysis for Baseball Prospectus he might do well to read some of the articles, it will most definitely improve some of the comments he makes. Drew was one of only a few starting Red Sox players to put up positive values for defense; He put up a UZR of +9.7 and a Plus/Minus of +11. I'll leave this statement of Christina Kahrl to sum it up for me " J.D. Drew's been an asset in how well he covers the expansive right-field pasturage in Fenway."

Macheska, must be the Dayton Moore of baseball broadcasting (if they got together they could start a team of the horrendously out of touch). If he got anymore old school, they may as well show the old games of Bob Gibson's catcher playing.

I feel that the article showed that Brittany has a lack of knowledge of the Minor's and/or the ability to rate prospects and their potential impact at the Major League Level. Thus she has tried to connect the article back to MLB; seeking solace in general knowledge that even the most lax baseball fan would be able to draw on. This most definitely resembles the plainness and simplicity of last week’s column by Jeff Euston, and as such should probably result in the same outcome.

Really looking forward to these articles, was hoping it would come up while there was still a large number of competitors to contrast and thus hopefully give diverse topics.
