The <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=107174">Walker Buehler</a></span> commentary, lol. I also got the visual of Nuke Laloosh's dream of playing in only Annie's garter belt and everyone laughing at him.

In a 16 team league with two catchers, I drafted <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=56945">Stephen Vogt</a></span> as my 2nd catcher. When Oakland designated him, I did as well, dropping him for <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=33829">Robinson Chirinos</a></span>. Now that Vogt is in MIL on the good side of a platoon, should I make the reverse transaction? Possible Lucroy trade is at play here too.

PS: Jason Bristol of KHOU reports that the Astros are calling up top outfield prospect <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70804">Derek Fisher</a></span>. Fisher earned the promotion by batting .335/.401/.608 with 16 home runs, 45 <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=RBI" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('RBI'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">RBI</span></a>, 13 stolen bases, and 42 runs scored in 60 games this season for Triple-A Fresno. He should see a handful of starts in Houston while <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=56609">Josh Reddick</a></span> works through a concussion, and Fisher could even steal playing time from <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=51312">Nori Aoki</a></span> once Reddick returns. But that will probably require immediate production.

Could you run a situational report on Tanaka after 5 days rest as opposed to regular 4? (or is it 6 instead of 5?) He seems a different pitcher with that extra day. Wondering if it's just my perception.

I'd like to see what Bird has too, but the Yankees are in the hunt and will go with the hot hand or alternate until one separates. (Fangraphs has them near same prediction). Carter isn't great, but is hitting <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=HR" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('HR'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">HR</span></a> and is a threat every time up. With Bird, we've all too often seen a player come up, make a big splash and fizzle out when pitchers adjust. I'm not saying he's <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=17705">Kevin Maas</a></span>, but it is possible considering his poor start prior to injury. I also wouldn't be surprised to see both falter and the Yanks trade for <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=66557">Tommy Joseph</a></span> or similar. There are so many individual outside factors that separate who will be called up and when. I'm just agreeing with Greg that while Bird will be back in the Show before Gleyber ever sets foot, but I think Gleyber will have the bigger impact for 2017. Actually I hope I'm wrong.

Should Torres get called up, he'll be playing every day at 3B or in the <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=MI" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('MI'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">MI</span></a>, should one of those guys get hurt. When Barreto comes up, it would come after a trade and he'd also get near full time PT.

Had to laugh at all the "... Tired of talking about..." I get it and if we want to read up what you've said in the past we can click on the player or go to a previous STASH. Can't even put in an ETA because players like Weaver are dependent on an injury. Aside from the rehabbing guys, I think we'll have to wait for trades or injuries as opposed to the Super 2 before we see most of these guys in the Show.

I love these articles; I've wanted to play with owners in my one deep league, but several are considerably less versed in the minor leaguers involved. -I'm wondering why 8 of the 10 teams seriously lowballed offers. Since you're all knowledgeable guys, I'm curious if this was intentional. -Could you run this exercise for Chapman and Miller? Would love to see the offers and what "Cashman" accepts.

Thx, I know velocity isn't the only measure and each have had setbacks. I've also read that velocity returns before control from TJ and shoulder surgeries, so the dynamic of each SP to date is rather interesting. I also wonder that if on the same timeline of recovery, would Cobb rate above the 3. Thx, luv the Stash.

Losing Karns to the bullpen was a bummer. Do you think this is temporary and he'll get back to the rotation? Reason I ask is that <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=31734">Zack Greinke</a></span> has a concerning oblique injury and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=60664">Trevor Rosenthal</a></span> lost his closer spot. I am weighing dropping <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=71272">Brandon Finnegan</a></span> or Karns to get <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=50058">Ryan Buchter</a></span> as a closer, or wait it out, hope Rosenthal gets his gig back and drop Finnegan or Karns for Mengden.

Thanks Matt, the closer article have been crucial for me this year. Could you include a ranking on your Closer Grid? In my primary league, I have been hurtin' for a 2nd closer since Doolittle failed me. Options: a) I can trade something of value for Ziegler, Rosenthal or Ramos. b) I can trade my Jansen for 2 of those closers above, or c) I can pick up Wil Harris, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=45544">Kevin Jepsen</a></span> or <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70349">Tony Cingrani</a></span> d) Wait it out with just Jansen and hope no one beats me to newly defined closer.

2 players "wrecks" a system? Both are expected to be up at some point this year anyway, so the system is shot as it is. Giolito, Turner and Taylor for Trout...but I don't think the Angels should do even that. The Red Sox option seems best to me from the Angels point of view; however only by swapping Betts for Benintendi or Devers (whichever is in the Angels best interest) and I don't see how the Red Sox could say no.

Would it be a fair assessment that <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70613">Joey Gallo</a></span> seems to have a great eye for strike zone, but swings so hard he can't adjust once he's decided to swing at a pitch. 1-3, 2-K, 2-BB, if that 1hit had been a <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=HR" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('HR'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">HR</span></a> it would have been a perfect Joey Gallo line.

Any idea why Texas is keeping <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=69270">Rougned Odor</a></span> in AAA? Yesterday’s 2-4 game marked his 7th consecutive multi-hit game. Batting .462 over last 10 games (5-BB, 1-K) and .372/.454/.681 since his demotion (8-K, 12-BB) you’d think he earned a call back up.

Tough to say without seeing your entire team, what players are available, scoring categories and how many players you can keep. Segura looks to be back soon, so if you don't have viable alternatives and have the space, you might as well keep him in case he gets traded to a team that wants to start him or an injury opens a spot, or a better player becomes available. Isolating Baez, it doesn't look like Cubs have a spot for him and my guess is that he'll be included in a mid-season trade. I don't think he'll offer much in 2015, but if you have the flexibility, he's worth a stash in case a golden opportunity opens up this year or next. If you keep him and trade him next year, how long can that team keep him, or does he have 1 keeper year left regardless?

Love the article, but beyond breaking down all the numbers, I recalled reading somewhere that the Diamondbacks changed McCarthy's pitch selection (perhaps to save his arm) and that the Yankees staff encouraged him to throw his cutter again, a pitch the Diamondbacks wanted him to move away from. As a Yankee, he’s thrown more cutters and four-seamers thus reducing his sinker & curveball usage. If pitch selection was instrumental in success, this would be reflective of coaching, no?

I think a lot of people have been spoiled with Trout, Jose Fernandes and a few others. Prospects don't usually contribute highly right away, so I think expectations have been set too high. Personally, I 've been hoping Alex Meyer gained a little more control because I think he and Kevin Gausman can contribute as soon as they are up. I'm in two rather deep leagues, so this information is extremely helpful. In the one AL only league, I've already stashed Jesus Montero and wondered if you think Jesus Aguilar or Johann Santana is worth an "outside of honorable mention" stash? Thank you

True, I'm not saying Wins is a better valuation, just saying it works better for leagues that have a scoring structure like the one I listed. In that league, no one owns middle relievers because IP, K and W counting categories devalue them and we have a high minimum innings pitcher for the year. Also, they really don't log enough innings to affect the ERA and WHIP. Again, I agree that QS is a better valuation of a SP than Wins or even worse NetWins. I'm just saying it doesn't work for every league.

Seems like that's the plan with Smyly, keep his innings in check and move to rotation in 2014. Seems like they've abandoned moving him to starter this year based on how they're not keeping him stretched out incase someone gets hurt. Detroit does need a closer though.

I disagree with the use of QS over W, at least for my league. I do know that it is a better measure of a pitcher's worth. However, my league has 6 pitching categories, ERA-WHIP-K-IP-NetSv-Wins. If we were to switch from Wins to QS, we would just be double counting the ERA and IP catagories. Keeping Wins allows you to value the pitchers that let up 4 runs in the first inning, but gut it out, save the bullpen and allow his team's hitters a chance to score enough runs to win the game. That has value.

However with Erasmo Ramirez building strength and Taijuan Walker looking like the best of the three, I'm having a hard time figuring out which Mariner to stash.

In May 2004 Alex Cora had an 18 pitch AB while playing for the Dodgers against the Cubs. Matt Clement was on the Hill and Cora homered on the last pitch. Thank you Dan and Derek for your comments from the 5/30 post. After drafting Jordan Walden, Addison Reed & Matt Thornton in April, not "paying for saves" has bit me, because of Scioscia's odd handling of Walden and because Santiago ninja'd the job for CWS. I've since dropped Thornton for Fernando Rodney, but struggled for a second closer. Unfortunately traded away Reed since he didn't have the gig back then (urgh)and picked up David Robertson when Mariano Rivera went down. I've since dropped Walden for Scott Downs, but need something better. With Rafael Soriano solidifying the NYY gig, I'm considering a) dropping Robertson for Drew Storen, or b) trading Luke Hochevar and Scott Downs for Alfredo Aceves and a body. I'd then drop Robertson and that body for a SP (Eovaldi?) and Andrew Bailey. Of course after this article, I'm hawking Joaquin Benoit as well.

Like the article Kevin, and asked the same question as to why not call up Phelps or Warren. But I don't necessarily agree about the fear factor. They did bring up Nunez, who seems to be Jeter's eventual replacement. Bringing up other position players at this point would really limit their AB. I'd love to see Montero up too, but would rather it be when he can get at 1east 10 AB per week. While Posada's been a drain, (not as bad as Adam Dunn?) it's been palatable while the Yankees were in 1st place and one of the top hitting teams. No longer the case I think we'll see Montero up...and if Posada doesn't turn it around, it should be shortly after Jeter notches his 3,000th hit.

SGreenwell - I would have thought my comments of appreciation to Kevin would have bought me some goodwill, it obviously did not. So I then posted the apology, admitting my overreation and poor grace. And you felt the need to pile on even more after that? Thanks. eighteen - Not to vindicate myself, because my post was wrong, but the two players in question were not similar (Baisley/Machado)...it was the sequence of questions that prompted my poor judgement response. I play in several deep leagues, two so deep that Alberto Callaspo was drafted prior to round 20. With everyone at 3B down to Chisenhall and Moustakas gone (both also drafted), a 3B with upside does have interest. And I only mentioned Sean Burroughs (who is 30) because mrdannyg said that "28-year olds in AAA are not really in the part of the development curve that Kevin specializes in." Listen, we all know I was wrong for my May 03, 2011 20:56 PM posting. Can you all just let it go, stop trying to one-up that last guy on insulting me and stop wasting the space with this nonsense?

Thanks. I heard about (1) but not about (2). Just read your review on him in Tampa's top 11 prospects as well. Thanks.

Brandon Guyer hit his 6th HR (another player the Rays got in the Garza deal). He seems to have improved every year, but he is blocked from a call up by Damon, Upton and Jennings?

A minus 2 rating for an apology? And a "boom roasted" AFTER Kevin Goldstein requests that we all get along? Stay classy San Diego.

ackbar - google doesn't watch games or have an expert's insight. But you already knew that, didn't you? So your snarky response and general attitude is hardly appropriate or appreciated. Regardless of location, .385 is .385 and if it's so easy, why isn't everyone doing it? For my self, I apologize for my reaction to being initially overlooked by Kevin and kudos to him to giving me something after my frustrated remark when he didn't have to write anything.

Pardon me mrdannyg that you don't think a 3B is "somewhat interesting" that is: -in the top 5 hitters in AAA -for a team that doesn't have a good 3B in the majors -at a time when many fantasy teams have lost their 3B Personally, I had not heard of the guy and could not find any information. Yes, I was a little taken aback that Kevin answered the very next question without even a quick reference to mine. Kevin did highlight Sean Burroughs, who is 30 and in AAA. So I did not think that a younger, better hitting, more relevant hitter was beyond Kevin's scope. Kevin, thank you. I appreciate your insight

Really? Just ignore my question and answer the one after? Thanks for the slap in the face to a BP subscriber.

Like many, I'm in 3B trouble, so scouring around and I haven't seen anything written about Jeff Baisley, even though he's hitting well in AAA. What can you tell me about him? Thank you.

Hannahan? 3B for CLE, not the minor league goalie, Suzanne's husband.

Farnsworth hasn't been any good for a long time. How soon before McGee replaces him?

Don't get me wrong, I don't think it's a bad idea, Nunez looks real good as the future SS.

Not a complaint, just curious as to why Jeter only plays 79% of the the time? Injury projection?

Will Tyler Colvin really get 500 AB? He looks like an up and comer.

I just read that Castro is to hit second. If that happens, who leads off?

Wow, I checked all the teams and Boston by far has the most whiniest group.

Thank you Michael. I would appreciate your thoughts on Steve Tolleson playing 3B, 2B & SS for Oakland. He hit .332 with 9 homers and 43 RBI for Triple-A Sacramento. I wondering whether he'll get enough PT to warrant starting him over Mike Aviles or Angel Sanchez.

Great work Michael. I'm wondering if Mark Teahen may lose time with Manny going to the White Sox. Also, if Napoli does go to Boston, does Juan Rivera spend most of the time at 1B or does ANA call up Mark Trumbo?

Thanks Rob and Michael, yes worried about PT with Lorenzo Cain and Michael Brantley HAD looked good until he injured himself last night. So I am leaning towards Moreland, marginally over Rayburn(full PT) and Kalish (increased PT with Cameron and Ellsbury done). Thanks again, keep up the great work. On the Cubs, I had been looking there as well with Lee traded but the hitting there leaves a lot to be desired. Has Rudy Jaramillo lost some of his mystic/reputation?

How do you think Mat Gamel will do in September compared to these guys?

Thanks for the Rayburn comments. I need an outfielder with Brad Hawpe dropping off the map and Josh Willingham about to be out for the year. So, I'm thinking of getting Rayburn, Denorfia, Kalish, Brantley, Cain, Mark Kotsay, Trevor Crowe, Conor Jackson or Mitch Moreland

I'm on that train as well. Could you do a "Hot Spots" replacements? We all know that Domonic Brown will replace Werth if traded and that Arenciba will replace Buck in Toronto. But what about the other potential trades and fill-ins? Who replaces Oswalt or Lilly if traded? Who starts in the OF if DeJesus gets traded, etc...
