When this article is written again in a few years, the Astros will be on this list with <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70348">Mark Appel</a></span>, #1 in 2013 and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=103732">Brady Aiken</a></span>, #1 in 2014.
Phelps over Barraclough?
The Astros had some really good first round picks there for awhile but really disappointed with the Appel pick.
Vizcaino didn't make the top 40? I thought he was a little higher rated.
Melancon is back in Pitt???
I'll reupdate my draft list.
Starting extra innings with a runner on 2nd is a terrible idea. It's like ending a soccer or hockey game with a shoot out... wait... Shit!
It's still a bad idea.
Where is Profar being listed this year? Texas is listing him as their first baseman this year but that's clearly not his best/most useful position.
Who edits the math?
Has Randy ever seen a baseball game?
Craig, good point, but I really liked seeing the Tools to get a general idea about what I'm about to read.
The killer Br's.
What happened to Pint? I thought he was top 3 or 4? (He's on my farm team with Groome and Perez.)
Also, is Ray (short) really a better MLB bet than Rutherford (tall)?
I have a farm spot and a need for a power outfield bat to go with Judge. My Majors are aging (Cruz, Cespedes). Ray is listed at 5'11" while Rutherford is 6'3". Is Ray the better (fantasy only) choice or should I wait to which park they call home?
That'd be $42 million on Puig. Typo.
As the winner of trade one, I'd like to say first, JP, your ten bucks are in the mail. Second, it is a keeper league and I do fear Maeda's arm situation. I look strongly to teams behavior regarding players. That is why I picked up Puig when LAD first signed him for $52 million and the same with Iglecias when Cinci signed him for $30 million.
In my draft this year, others were looking at Cubans while I grabbed Groome, Pint and Perez. On my farm, I also have Judge and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/player_search.php?search_name=Eddy+Martinez">Eddy Martinez</a></span>. Would you rate Ray or Rutherford over Martinez or should I keep him?
As an Astro fan living in Houston, I have been lead to believe a much loftier ranking would be awaiting <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70972">A.J. Reed</a></span>. Have I been mislead? Why is he ranked 122?
That was a compelling argument you made for Pablo Sandofat but I think I'll pass anyway. Somethings he rarely if ever does at a buffet.
In reference to your lead, I believe you missed a big key as to why pitchers are better while giving up more home runs. Very few hitters have a 2 strike approach any more. Guys like <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/player_search.php?search_name=Chris+Davis">Chris Davis</a></span> are going for the fences on every pitch and not caring if they strike out.
No love for Mesoraco???
First, I believe Greinke is a two start pitcher.
Second, Thanks for the tip on Corbin last week.
Unless I really over slept and actually Tuesday, isn't it a little early for this article?
Also, no mention of Strickland San Fran. Any chance he gets a look as he has the "closer of the future" label?
Well, having taking criticism in my league for trading for Cespedes in the off season, I'll consider his move to NY a second win for my team.
I was also criticized for trading for Machado last off season as well. Hmmmm.....
Any chance Iglecias closes for the Reds if Chapman is dealt?
I traded <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=57988">Eric Hosmer</a></span> and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=45613">Justin Verlander</a></span> for Machado and a mid round draft pick in my dynasty league this and was mocked. I'm returning those phone calls now.
I wish I would have read that article before I drafted him this year.
Yes, I think artificially spiking offense is the embodiment of enlightenment. In the next CBA that silly once a player has been removed from the game he may not return should done away with as well. That rule seems unenlightened and in direct contrast to the enlightened DH rule. Who could possibly object to a player entering the game on four or so seperste occasions and then be removed when his team plays defense.
Defense? How unenlightened?
I pay for this? Really?
I actually clicked on the "this" other Trout.
Stop doing that.
I also have appreciated this column.
One request, can it be published on Fridays along with the 2-start pitcher column. I set my weekly lineups to be ready to go on Mondays. Just a slightly self-centered thought.
No, it doesn't.
We're talking about the Cubs.
I've never played in a league with a $261 budget. Is this CBS or Yahoo?
Awesume resume Ian, Thanks... You're hired.
I don't know about some of those comments... I mean I will never get those 2 minutes of my life back that I spent watching the HSM2 clip. That was the worst scene in a movie I have ever partically watched.
Actually, March was mild as far as temperature but April was Colder than normal, at least here in the Mid-Atlantic.
I was not aware there are so many Pixies songs I have never heard.
Am I really going to spend the $5 for Batista? The only guy not owned in my league...
How much ridicule is he worth?
4 stars for Colvin? After reading the praise you heaped on him, am I to assume we have raised the bar for a 5 star player?
Some good young players: Heyward, Blanks and Cutch. I like Hanley at almost any price. A couple question marks with Chapman and Gonzalez. Cubans typically take awhile to acclimate to the states (ex. K. Morales and A. Ramirez). Some, including me, think A Gon will be gone this year. If he ends up in the AL, you loss a lot of bat.
I do like your pitching core of Billingsley, Jurrjens and Nolasco.
I would like to thank Gary for noticing I'm not a middle-of-the-distribution baseball fan.
