Good God, they are awful. I am glad I moved to Denver at the end of last season... do you think they will pull the trigger and deal a couple young pitchers for some young position players? I am not sold on Bell, and there is really noone on the radar at first base in the organization now. Curiously enough, I thought Trembley had a relatively even and steady hand with the young guys, and I think the managerial change could go disastrously wrong with the season already in the tank.

As someone who was medically retired from the U.S. Army due to pulmonary disease, I was very amused by your analogy to "AsthmaMax" in this article. I have taken various types of cortisteroids for years and, I assure you, have not experienced ANY athletic benefits other than being able to wake up and function on a daily basis. I really think you are reaching here and I hope you're happy that, if nothing else, you got a lot of comments. I am glad players like Votto are getting the help they need in this era; I can only imagine a friend of mine being in the same position.

As someone who lived in Washington for the last few years, I can tell you this deal is only about the empty stadium that the Nationals play in every game. The 'Natinals' will continue to sign every big name on their way out or who slips through the cracks (Dunn) to try and build some enthusiasm around the team without actually building a competitive team.

Bergesen was not a huge name as a prospect and, therefore, seems to get no love on BP. I think he should be in the top three in rookie of the year voting thus far.

I think that you, me, or Jesus himself couldn't win with that Nats crew. I personally hope that Manny gets the Indians job when Mark Shapiro comes to his senses and finally fires Eric Wedge. As a transient for a few years here in Washington, I think the fans here have lost sight of the fact that: 1. Your (former)GM is under FBI investigation for bonus skimming. 2. You have not hired a permanent replacement GM. 3. Your new park is mediocre at best and hasn't drawn any fans. 4. You are storming the manager's office with torches and pichforks despite the above factors. I bet the Nats brain trust can even ruin Strasburg.... if they can spell their team name right on their uniforms. 4.

I got to meet Brian on the field at the Braves-Nationals game on July 3rd. He was very polite and humble and talked to a few of us about baseball gossip for a few minutes before he stepped into the cage. One of my favorite players, who only heightened that status when I got to meet him in person!

I'm really not sure what the Indians are doing. When they figure out that they are not contenders, I hope that they play some of their better young players more and fire Eric Wedge. They are meandering through a meaningless season right now and there doesn't seem to be much logic to any of their moves.

I was a proponent of hiring Joel Skinner in the first place...

Is anyone thinking that Eric Wedge will not be fired? Seriously????

Thank you so much, Shane. Your written words are very appropriate and insightful, and make the loss of Nick feel closer to the heart of every MLB fan. RIP Nick.
