It's not exactly the hormone produced by the pituitary, but it is very similar and does the same thing (activates testosterone production).

hCG can be tested for during pregnancy, in fact it's the hormone that pregnancy tests look for in women. Overproduction from uterine cells causes overflow of hCG into the urine. In men it is similar to luteinizing hormone which stimulates testosterone production. I guess if you inject it it doesn't end up in the urine and you can't tell...? I don't know, this seems odd to me that he took hCG but it's "untestable". I hope someone with more knowledge can clear this up.
