I was watching it live with my 14 year old son. We both immediately said "ball four." No way Ryan swung at that pitch. As much as I wanted to see Humber get the perfect game, it seems a bit tainted to us.
Good luck, Steven. As with Sheehan before you, you held the mantle of the first click of the day when I saw your by-line. You will be missed here, but we'll read you elsewhere also!
Welcome aboard, Max! It's nice to see the Italians represented!
Us usual, you are the man, Larry!
There is nothing conclusive here that shows that the tag was actually applied. Meals was in excellent position (you can't always say that about umpires) and made the call as you saw it. I can't fault him at all. Lugo is safe.
I miss Jim Baker...
Amen, Colin. I stopped reading that article, but I went back and finished it after I saw this post. Amen, brother.
Okay, that trailer does make you want to see the movie. I'm in.
Wow, there continues to be lots of turnover here at BP...
Excellent sentiment and well written. Thanks.
Thanks for asking that question, SenatorsGuy. I was thinking the same thing and hadn't gotten around to asking!
I was 10 in 1970 and it was all about the Orioles and the expansion Royals for me. Very vivid memories about those days. I wrote to every single team asking for photos, autographs, etc. and many, many sent big freaking manilla envelopes of material, but especially the Orioles stuck out for me.
Agreed as I put into the other thread, Michael.
The formatting in Word puts onto about 800 pages and in WordPad all the headers are repeated. Not nice and printer friendly like everything else on this site.
I don't care for the Cover it Live app since you apparently cannot print out a transcript for reading at a late date away from the computer. Is there a way to do and I just don't get it??
I too am despondent about the TAs. I have been a subscriber for many years and was thinking of dropping it, but just re-upped yesterday convincing myself that Christina's TAs were worth the investment. I might be having a bit of buyer's remorse today, though. Congratulations, CK.
I miss Jim Baker...
Thanks so much, Joe. This is always worthwhile!
Not to pick nits, Ken, but Lurch was on the Addams Family.
I, too, have been on the Edwin Train for a while and I boarded again at last weekend's draft (20 teamer with 20 rounds) in Round 20 (#385). I hope it's the steal of the draft!
Thanks for letting us know, Dave. I go back following Will when he was sending out missives before joining up with BP, so it sad to see him leave this home, but know he will doing great stuff elsewhere. Powered by......
Good luck, KG! Post a link!
I assuming that the PT% for Martinez and Varitek are reversed?
Can you identify the writers in the picture just in case we've got you folks mixed up?
Yay for us!
As Scott Simon said earlier in this comments section, there has been a huge amount of talent exiting BP since the beginning. Losing Joe on top of those departures puts BP on shaky footing. I will still subscribe mainly due to Chris and Kevin, but this loss is particularly hard to bear. Prospectus Today is always the first thing I look for each day and miss it when Joe doesn't write. I hope everything works out for the best.
I am only complaining about the timeframe to vote. It was a holiday weekend and we were away without internet access until late Monday. Just a little extra time to review them at this point would be nice. As the field gets winnowed down, it will be easier to read them all, but this week was not particularly fair to Byron (or whoever would have been eliminated).
That said, I think Christina, Kevin and Will deserve a ton of credit for getting this going!
I too am a little concerned with the timeframe at the beginning of the contest, also. Ten articles is a lot to digest for people with a job, a wife and three kids. I only got to three articles because of work commitments. I hadn't gotten to Byron's entry yet. Is there some rush to get this done in ten weeks?
That was very nicely done, Shane. Thank you.
I too am a Royals fan. I cringed when they brought in Farnsworth. Striking out Quentin was on Quentin. He was swinging at balls. Farnsworth was wild.
There is no way you can let Farnsworth pitch to Thome in that spot. It's the first game of the year. Everybody is fresh. This is not a second guess, either. You could ask my wife that I was incredulous that Hillman was letting Farnsworth pitch in that spot, with predictable results.
I hope this doesn't set the tone for the whole season.
Awesome work, Dave!
Thanks so much.
Aw, I nailed the date and the years, but came up $20 million short.
Nice contest, Will!
How about a feed in Maine?
I say Yankees 6/140 12/11
ROYALS: Stop trading for players like Mike Jacobs. Stop signing players like Jose Guillen. Trade Zach Greinke for building blocks for the future.
I would also like the print button back. I have printouts both ways and it is a little different. I am old and don\'t want to change!
I heard rumor they would play two games tomorrow if necessary. Is that true?
Sorry, Will, I thought you and Goldstein were collaborating! :)
What\'s the long term prognosis for Desmond Jennings, Fautino de Los Santos and Jacob McGee?
