Deck McGuire sounds like a Shawn Marcum clone with slightly more velocity.

Interesting that as teams start to become more “aware” of him he has put up off the charts slash lines the last 2 months. July: .347/.418/.765 August: .299/.431/.742

Kind of an ignorant statement to say "that fact isn't likely to change soon" regarding the Blue Jays. I think you've been spending too much time watching minor league baseball to see all the good things going on at the major league level. The rotation is young, cheap, controllable and has proven that they can handle the AL East at a very young age. Snider's performance since April has been jaw-dropping for a 22 year old (if only Cito would realize this), Lind & Hill have drastically underperformed and have shown strong signs of shaking that lately. Throw in the fact that ownership has publicly committed (through Beeston) to up the payroll to $130+ mil when the time is right to build around a strong, young nucleus. I believe they are committed to ~50 mil for next season which essentially brings back the same roster minus a few bullpen arms and Buck (Arencibia).

Kevin, former Blue Jays' asst GM Bart Given makes the case in his new blog that the Jays should start Snider in AAA to gain the extra year of FA. When you talk about this as one of the reasons the Rays are doing this with Price, does it not make even more sense for the Jays given the state of the franchise? Or is this a case of JP putting all his cards on the table trying to save his job?

Who are the high ceiling young pitchers you are referring to Kevin?

Will, I would have loved to have seen an assessment of Brett Cecil. I really believe he'll be a full time member of this rotation no later than June and never look back. How conservative should the Jays be about his innings in 2009? 170?

I\'m gonna take a flier and say yes on this one. I couldn\'t see the Jays RA being 691 without defense being factored in.

They have an option to buy out similar to Reed Johnson\'s last year. His deal is ridiculous .... in this market its at least 3 times his market value. You could buy him out for $400,000 and get a much better player for $2 mil in this market.

Just as an FYI, I don\'t know if your PT%\'s are calculated or manual but from someone who follows the Jays pretty closely both Thigpen and Adams have been DFA\'d. I think its pretty much common knowledge that Snider will be the primary LF (assuming he starts with the Jays) and Lind will be the primary DH with the possibility of him seeing some games at first. Also as of right now Bautista could see some time at first vs. LHP assuming the Jays don\'t buy out his asinine contract.

Why would you trade for Montero (and give up the 2nd last piece of your \'08 rotation) when JP Arencibia is probably about a year away?
