I always forget. 8 or 80 is the highest mark?
Are you an English dude that likes baseball or an American living in England?
@casejud- I agree. You have to pinch run for AGON. You never think , "what if we go to extra innings and need so and so". Let's score now. Maybe he should have tried to steal 2nd. I know about Molina. But that should have been tried.
I have two questions for you. Wouldn't it be cool if the TBS team would do baseball at the time? Also were you guys disappointed with the way some of the Cardinals were jumping on the other players and throwing some sort of liquid at Beltran? I say this out of concern for health. If I was Matheny I would say no more jumping, punching, and throwing liquid at other teammates.
Hey guys do you think Delmon Young and Elijah Dukes are best friends?
He was a better metal bat hitter than a wood bat hitter. He was awesome in college. He has yet to adjust to the wood bats. Some players adjust and most don't. For every Barry Bonds (ASU) there are a 100 Brett Wallaces (ASU). Dustin Ackley is Brett Wallace.
Jaime Garcia is on the waiver wire?
Year end stats are 17 wins 180 SO's 3.2 ERA and 1.1 WHIP.
Pick him up and start him every time out.
Really? Are you thinking HR crown? I'm rooting for Reynolds to win it.
Who's better at raking? Mark Reynolds or Mark Trumbo.
Anybody remember Joey Gathright and Reggie Abercrombie? Let's hope Hamilton doesn't turn into those 2.
Here is my predicton.
290 BA, 24 HR, 85 RBI's, 105 Runs, 32 SBs.
I grabbed those numbers out of thin air based on last year stats, his age, and feel.
I love BP but don't take their PECOTA projections seriously.
Last year they had Kila Ka'aihue hit 20 plus home runs. They are for fun only.
Do they mean 70 wins and 92 losses? Who think the Yankees will finish anywhere towards the top. This prediction makes me question BP.
You forgot Mark Reynolds. That dude can rake.
Anybody freaking out right now?
Delatopia- I appreciate the response. I did go to the link and read the whole article. I think what is lacking is a sense of humor. Chief Wahoo is funny. It's not malicious or destructive. It sounds like it's one person who probably needs a hobby that is also a rable rouser. I wouldn't get too excited.
I use to live in Central Illinois and was a big University of Illinois fan. We all know their mascot is The Fighting Illini. The University did the best job I have ever seen in honoring the Illini Nation. The person that played the Chief was Native American and beloved. But there were four people from the Illini Nation that wanted the Chief removed. All other Illini's loved the Chief and the university. These four Native Americans were coached by hardcore Progressive groups to get the mascot eliminated. They were used as pawns in the progressive movement on mascots. Ever since then I decided never to give into political correctness.
Like I said before the majority of Native Americans could care less. Do me a favor and Google the Souix Nation's "fight" to get the North Dakota mascot removed. You'll find that 4 or 5 people are trying to get it removed. North Dakota University honors the Souix Nation and the majority of the Souix know this.
I know, I know Chief Wahoo is a caricature of an "Indian". But it looks like an Indian brave smiling to me. It's funny and playful. The fight in getting this mascot removed is fake.
Delatopia- I appreciate you reading both my posts. I care about this issue because I do not like political correctness. It limits the freedom of speech. It's entirely up to the owners of the Indians. If enough people protest about the mascot they will change their name. I think you are missing my argument. Indians are just like Pirates, Knights, and Cowboys. They don't exist anymore. They are all from a different period. I wish I could talk to a person who's ancestor were Indians. I really don't think they would care. I'm not upset at cowboy or miner mascots. My ancestors were cowboys and miners.
This article actually insults the people you are trying to protect. It's OK because most Progressives think with their heart instead of their brain. The "Indian" pictured as Chief Wahoo does not exist today. They existed 100 years and then after that they assimilated. They opened casinos, sent their kids to college, and stopped wearing feathers in their hair. What you are saying is that the Native Americans today look like Chief Wahoo. If you think Chief Wahoo resembles a Native American today you are a racist.
Modern day Greeks don't look like Spartans or Trojans.
Modern day white people don't look like Pirates, Cowboys, Hoosiers, and Knights
People from the South don't look like the UNLV mascot.
Chief Wahoo is an old image that represents a romanticize period in our history.
Lighten up. Its just a mascot. Try to realize when you are being a racist.
If we get rid of Chief Wahoo we will have to get rid of all human mascots. Do we want to do that? No Irish, Spartans, Trojans, Cowboys, Minutemen, Aztecs, Colonials, Senators, Hoosiers, Knights, Pirates, Warriors, Rebels, Aggies, Miners and etc.
This what we do because I like solutions. If you don't like it don't buy Cleveland Indian merchandise or watch their games. It's a baseball team that nobody really cares about.
I doubt ownership will do anything about it. It will be a slippery slope if the Indian mascot is changed.
I'm extremely angry at the baseball writers. Craig Biggio a player with over 3000 hits is not a first ballot HOF. I guarantee you if he played for the Yankees, Mets, or Cubs he would be in. Everybody would be talking how great he was. This is a sad day for baseball. How dare they.
I'm a keeper on Ellsbury only. The reason I don't like Fowler is that I don't look at him as a baseball player. He is an athlete. I never see him hitting any more than 15 HR's. If you don't steal you can't carry an outfielder who hits 10-12 HR's. Werth is clearly on the downslope of his career. Clearly a huge real life baseball mistake by the Nationals. I would never have him on my team. I would rather have Cody Ross on my team. Good article but respectively disagree about Fowler and Werth.
Reggie Jackson might be a good comparison. I hope he doesn't strikeout as much.
I forget that Jose Canseco was a great power hitter back in the late 80's. That could be a good comparison. We also forget Jose was a very good base stealer.
I'm trying to figure out who Bryce Harper will become. Ken Griffey Jr. minus the defense? Mickey Mantle? Ryan Braun? I'm not sure. Anybody have thoughts on who you can compare him to?
In a 10-12 team multi league not even rosterable.
I got to put in for Ryan Ludwick. He is the reason I won my league in 2008.
2008 Line: 104 Runs/ 113 RBI/ 37 HR/ 299 BA
Nobody drafted him in my league or any league for that matter. I picked him up after week 2.
I appreciate the response.
If I do the Player Forecast Manager it has Longoria as the 5th best 3B in a 12 team multi league snake draft. Wright, Bautista, ARod, and Reynolds are ahead of him. Why is it different here?
Could somebody explain to me why Nick Markakis was taken in the 1st round. I don't get it.
I guess BP thinks Sizemore is going to be healthy all year. I would only draft him to save my life. Also what's with BP ranking outfielders by LF, RF, CF. Has anybody played in a league where outfielders are defined by LF, CF, RF? I still love BP just seems weird.
I got my Baseball Prospectus Yearbook yesterday. Sorry I didn't update you guys sooner. What's cool is that I ordered from Amazon on Tuesday and used the free shipping and it came on Friday. I live in Missouri and it came from one of their hubs in Kentucky. I read the Braves section so far. It's been 2 years since my last BP Yearbook.
Jhart05- I have a suggestion for you and I never did this until last year. Pre-rank your players before draft day and that way you won't have to fumble around looking at lists and going through the BP book. In the past I have always done that. It always cost me time and quality players when drafting. Last year I decided to fill out my pre-rankings card and it paid off.
On a different subject I wanted to let everybody know I got a message from Amazon that my order has shipped. I'll keep everybody updated on the progress of the delivery.
Dbrown- Thanks for responding. I was thinking the same thing. High Strikeouts and maybe 13 or 14 wins. Solid number 1.
Coming from the American League equals a better year in the National League.
In a 12 team 5X5 draft how high is too high for Josh Johnson.
I couldn't wait until Wednesday morning. I just got done ordering the Baseball Prospectus Yearbook. Also to get free shipping I ordered the Baseball Forecaster. I got the "Super-Saver Shipping" which is 5-9 days. When I get the books I'll get back with everybody.
Tipman- Good story. I decided I'm going to order mine from Amazon. I don't want to pay for the gas to go to B&N.
I wanted to let you guys know I thinking about ordering mine from Amazon on Wednesday at around 9:00 AM. I'll keep you guys updated.
Tuck- What did it say? Are they over 50 SB's?
Kevin- I want to try to out do Braden23. Here goes.
Every year after baseball season ends my heart dies. Then when the Baseball Prospectus Yearbook comes out I get reborn again. I know that baseball season is just around the corner. I read the Baseball Prospectus Yearbook a little bit every night until opening day comes. Thank God for the Baseball Prospectus Yearbook. How did I do?
Does anybody know if the foreword is written by Keith Olbermann again? I couldn't buy last years copy because of that curious decision by the BP staff. Thanks.
Marc- Great article. For what it's worth I agree with most of it. I'm wondering if you believe in the magical age of 27 for fantasy baseball. Aaron Hill turn 27 on 3-21-09 and look what he did. If you were the fortunate one to pick him off the waiver wire last year you probably did pretty well in your fantasy league.
I'm just mad at the anti-American sentiment that has come into our culture. One of the comments really set me off. When I grew up America was a different place. I see it changing for the worse. I'm sorry. I'll drop it and save the pro-American speech for another blog.
Shakespeare- I mean Sal, you forgot to capitalize Thanksgiving. I know I forgot to use you're rather than your. It's one of my bad habits. That's besides the point. Canadian Thanksgiving is a joke. They should thank America for defending it for free. I don't recognize Canadian Thanksgiving.
Twinkies25- Thanks for the props. Its time to go on the attack when people bash America. How dare anybody rip on Thanksgiving.
I'm surprised that nobody is backing me up. Isn't anybody else mad that somebody would use a Baseball message board to bash Thanksgiving and America. If you love baseball shouldn't you love America and their "silly" holiday's? I'm angered and tired of the America bashing. What's strange is that most America bashing comes from Americas.
I really don't find joking about Communism and National Socialsim funny. America should be celebrated. America saved the world.
Evan- I'm offended. The world should honor America. If it wasn't for America we would be speaking Russian or German. Your probably an ungrateful Canadien. You're welcome.
I like the comment they made about Yadier Molina. You can also add he's valuable because you can draft him in the last rounds. He gives you a good solid average. Solid runs and rbi's because of Pujols and Holliday.
Peaves got another owee: The Chicago Tribune reports that White Sox SP Jake Peavy had a setback in in his return from an ankle injury on Saturday in a rehab start for Triple-A Charlotte. Peavy was hit on the elbow by a line drive in his previous rehab start and experienced tightness near that elbow on Saturday in his next outing. He lasted only 3 1/3 innings due to the injury. Peavy was taken out of the game after the Charlotte trainer visited with him on the mound.
Looks like I was right, this is what I said: chronically hurt. Strained tendon, strained muscle, ailing elbow. The list goes on. Peaves is a gamer and we all like him but he is done
The Gord Ash years. The not so glory days for the Jays.
chronically hurt. Strained tendon, strained muscle, ailing elbow. The list goes on. Peaves is a gamer and we all like him but he is done.
This one was pretty bad. I'm a Cardinal fan and I know Rolen does nothing for the clubhouse. Jocketty loves Rolen but he has 1 or 2 playing years left. For my money the worst deal that everybody thinks is the best deal is the ChiSox/Padres deal. The Padres got a steal. Peaves is Mark Prior waiting to happen. He'll never be healthy again. This is worse than the Zambramno for Kazmir deal. My rule is that you never trade for a hurt pitcher.
I'm shocked at the Schmidt analysis. This is coming from a Cardinals fan and not a Dodgers fan. I watched the Dodgers game last night and after the first inning he looked good. The guy hasn't pitched in ages. What did you want him to do? I think he'll be better than an innings eater.
Did you build this team based on the LIMA plan?
Oleoay- You have your priorities straight. I need to do the same. Good luck.
Oleoay- If you're a subscriber to Baseball Prospectus you should not be in any Yahoo leagues. Use this knowledge for some pay leagues.
I agree Wainwright should be in the top 60. He'll get wins.
In a 10 team 5x5 thats probably too early. I would target him around 10.
Could someone help me with David Price and how to draft him in a 5x5 10 team NL/AL league. Do I draft him at all? Late rounds?
I tried to research this on the net but couldn\'t find anything. Why isn\'t Cuba in the Carribean World Series? They are in the WBC. Thanks.
MrGriffey- Thats actually a good post. Funny.
Where do we draft Weiters in a 10 team 5x5 league. Middle late?
He is a bad person because he is full of hatred and is unprofessional. He has been out of the baseball scene for years. He is now known as an extremist political commentator. Put your love for Olbermann aside and ask yourself if you would be ok with Michael Savage writing a forward. You probably wouldn\'t be. My point is that Baseball Prospectus should not be partnered up with any polarizing political commentator. Sports and politics should be separate. You stated someone\'s politics are a small part of who they are as a human being. I\'m not sure that\'s true. You define yourself by your views. If you are right, according to certain sources he is a real jerk in his personal life. I\'ll say it until they apoligize, Baseball Prospectus made a big mistake teaming with Olbermann.
It\'s actually not that simple. Olbermann is part of Baseball Prospectus now. I\'ll never be a part of Keith Olbermann. He is a very bad person both on screen and off. If Baseball Prospectus comes out and makes a statement that they made a mistake and apoligize I\'ll renew my subscription and buy the book.
I use to love Baseball Prospectus until now. Including a clown political commentator to the Baseball Prospectus Community is ridiculous. I hope the people at Baseball Prospectus apoligize. No way will I renew my subscription or buy the book. Someone at Baseball Prospectus decided to get political. Very bad decision.
I have a theory on the Red Sox making a offer. It was to up his price for the Yankees. Boras and the Red Sox got together and said lets up his price for the Yankees. The Red Sox signing Teixeira makes no sense with Youk and Lowell. Lowell is untradeable. I\'m a Cardinal fan so I have no dog in the hunt. I feel he fits best with the Angels. I would love to be able to afford to live in Anaheim.
Craig- You forgot how young and inexperienced the Tigers were. How many Veterans did St. Louis have? Edmonds, Rolen, Pujols, and Eckstein. I never thought the Tigers were automatic winners. The 06 Tigers don\'t compare to the 08 Red Sox or 08 Rays.
Does this game matter? They are playing to play in the World Series and get beat by the American League.
Reading the Mets Cubs section reminded me about the beginning of the year when all the pundits predicted the Mets to win the National League. The Mets will never be anything with Omar Minaya at the helm. Trading Kazmir. Signing Santana who is past his prime. Not addressing the outfield. He has to be one of the worst GM\'s out there. He should have addressed the Manager situation sooner.
Does anybody consider A.J. Burnett to be a top ten pitcher in the A.L. After his second half I am impressed with his pitching prowess. If the guy stays healthy and keeps his head he can be on the same level as a healthy Peavy and a current Sabathia.
