Does <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=PECOTA" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('PECOTA'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">PECOTA</span></a> build in anything based on likely trade activity? (i.e., if it projects that a team will be out of contention at the trade deadline, does it project that team to be worse after it?).

Re: The Collins comment, did <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=65870">Yasmani Grandal</a></span> hit too many of his home runs while not playing catcher to count as a 25 home run catcher last year?

I love this. I remember watching Hill pitch for U of Michigan, and the curveball making _my_ knees buckle while seated behind home plate. It's great to see him having success now.

Am I the only Cubs whose memory has merged <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=18049">Gary Scott</a></span> and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=263">Kevin Orie</a></span>?

I was an 8 year old in 1984, and it is a far more painful memory than 2003. Maybe my emotion has to do with having been at game 4 when bleeping Garvey homered, but I think the bigger factor was that the Cubs hadn't been close in so long. By 2003 there was practice at disappointment, but in 1984 it was new.

<span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=70434">Carter Capps</a></span> has <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=71177">Kyle Barraclough</a></span>'s stats. Neither Capps nor Barraclough have MPH listed. <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=1037">Carl Crawford</a></span> is missing a 2016 projection.

Stats and projections are missing for <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=48314">Jason Motte</a></span> and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=106563">Mike Nikorak</a></span> on page 166. I'm also skeptical about the comps for <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=52047">Luke Hochevar</a></span> on page 217, though it would be awesome if he turned into a left handed starter who would perennially lead the league in strikeouts.

Very entertaining. For what it's worth, the stat line above for Sandberg was from 1996, his first year back after retirement.

I _love_ the yellow light line. Also, I think there's a word missing in "clusterlucking their past the Pirates"

Guess it depends on your definition of "decent player". <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=48314">Jason Motte</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=51934">Chris Perez</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/player_search.php?search_name=Charlie+Morton">Charlie Morton</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=46980">Elvis Andrus</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=45622">Scott Feldman</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=46195">John Jaso</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=49543">Sergio Romo</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/player_search.php?search_name=Jim+Johnson">Jim Johnson</a></span>, <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=47690">Nick Hundley</a></span> and <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=40375">Ricky Nolasco</a></span> have all spent a good amount of time at the top of their teams' <a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/fantasy/dc/">depth charts</a>.

Oddly enough, LaHair did not make the team because the Cubs needed a representative - <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=57278">Starlin Castro</a></span> was also on the team. LaHair made the team as the players' second choice when they agreed with the fans' vote of Votto.

Do you have any experience helping players transition into new jobs after their playing days are done? I'd imaging that you have useful contacts for helping them secure coaching or scouting jobs.

As a fellow Cubs fan, I'm also looking forward to the new content. I can, however, understand the fear that the creation of this content will lead to less content on the national site. I recall back in the pre-internet days that USA Today's Baseball Weekly was the best source of baseball news I could find. When they added football coverage and changed the name to Sports Weekly they repeatedly claimed that the baseball coverage would not be lessened, they'd just add football coverage. Within a year the number of column inches dedicated to baseball had been reduced by about 40%. I hope that Mr. Walsh's assurances are accurate, but some of us have been burned on this path before.

I'm amazed that nobody picked either of last year's penant winners to win their division this year. (Not that either won their division last year or even that I'd pick either of them myself, but I'd have thought that somebody would have picked the Giants).

If you're going to be a stickler for accuracy, stickle. The teams name is the West Michigan Whitecaps. (No space in Whitecaps)

Related to Lansing - I go to a handful of their games every year. For picking which games to go to, who else in the Midwest League is interesting this year?

I can't speak for them, but career length has to be a factor. Martinez had 1,765 more plate apperances than Walker did. How that weighs against Walker's additional 10,158 fielding innings is a fair question.

Not saying that I agree with Bochy's decision, but it did leave his bullpen fresher for game 5 the next night.

Didn't Bobby Bonds Jr. also make it to the high minors? (Though I think we can pretty confidently say he was given more chances than had his name been Bobby Notbonds Jr.)

I read the published version, not the advance uncorrected proof, but I didn't notice any errors, FWIW. Also, there's pretty good evidence that Brice Jared is an amalgamation - one of the anecdotes about Jared had been attributed to Travis Snider elsewhere, but that doesn't fit with Jared being part of the bullpen.

Per http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=22724 he'll be ranked in the third base article because that's where he's eligible now. Looks like if he had SS eligibility now he'd be a high two or low three.

An additional reason for a player option like this is to make it a more appealing contract to the player. Just like additional money or a no-trade clause it's a perk to get the player's autograph on the contract.

There's a lot of emphasis in here about his pitch selection, especially the tendency to go back to a pitch after he misses his spot, but the article also says that he never shakes off his catcher. Is the assumption that he instructs the catcher before the game to stick to this pattern, or is that really more of a scouting report on his catchers?

When kicking this idea around in my head I always envisioned making each pairing a lefty and a righty to cause the other team lineup difficulties. I also envisioned one of the bullpen pitchers as a knuckleballer who could eat as many innings as needed in extra inning games. I think the key to gettnig pitcher buy-in is to identify quad-A players and six year minor league free agents. Given the choice between being a traditional starter at AAA and a tandem starter in the majors it can't be a tough call, can it?

"accounting for 26 of Darvish’s 78 strikes, all but one of which were either taken, fouled off, or swung at and missed." Perhaps I need more coffee, but aren't all strikes either taken, fouled off or swung at and missed?

The other question with Cabrera is whether PECOTA is able to factor in that his missed games were due to the suspension. I would think that to the formula this looks like either an injury or managerial decision, either of which would predict decreased production.
