I'm not sure on this one. I think Melvin would have been killed if he didn't offer him arbitration and then he left. Further, he seemed to hate his time there and so I was shocked to hear that he accepted the offer. Awful outcome yes, but I think Melvin was in a bit of no-win situation here.

I am a huge Yankee fan. And I'm big enough of a boy to realize that not everyone likes the Yanks. If someone can eloquently tease the Yankees and their fans - more power to them. Christina is brilliant in her commentaries and asides - not to mention she regularly bashes her favorite team also.

I find it hard to believe that Kyle Farnsworth could be considered an upgrade. "Upgrading" to Farnsworth is the same mindset as the Royals aspiring to get to .500.

I think the best part of the signing of Winn is that it stops the temptation to resign Damon for nostalgia's sake. To resign him you're paying for his reputation as much as for his talent.

yes. Apparently one of the first groundbreaking discussions they may have is about the designated hitter rule. Apparently LaRussa doesn't like it. It's not baseball as he learned it. The exact mindset that you are worried about in your piece.

wow. Only 3 Red Sox are \"green.\" They have been aggressive of late gathering \"low risk-high upside\" types of folk. But many of those have that label due to injuries driving down price. If you\'ve got a large collection of those (and high priced players - Ortiz, Drew, Beckett) with injury histories it\'s not hard to envision a perfect storm scenario for this squad (not saying it will happen, odds are they win 95 games, but you could see the domino effect happening).

I\'m curious about your thoughts on the Rangers being a year away from having an \"era.\" I\'m a Yankee fan, but I\'ve lived near Dallas for 8 years now. So, Josh Lewin has managed to cajole me into caring about the Rangers!

Your Les Mis riff was inspired. Thank you for the entertainment mixed in with your analyses.
