Isn't this the same as saying late break is best? Seems like a rephrasing of something that we know - though obviously quantifying it.
Where's the love for that rowdy tellez double header?
A lesser known player named <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=105432">Yoan Moncada</a></span> was 3/3 with 3 doubles, a walk 4 runs and a <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=SB" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('SB'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">SB</span></a> on Friday.
How true this is! If he succeeds, he's still a pretty bad guy. Hopefully his history isn't whitewashed.
<span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/player_search.php?search_name=Lance+McCullers">Lance McCullers</a></span>?
Barreto was 3-4 with 2HR and a <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=BB" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('BB'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">BB</span></a>, for those interested in good games :)
Any concern that it was an anomaly, considering Williams walk rate has once again dropped?
We need rowdy tellez in there somewhere! 2 hr day on July 3rd. 5 hr in first 50 ab as 20 yo in high A.
That wasn't meant as a challenge, just an observation. Isn't a 60/First division player, not a franchise player? Of course there's nothing wrong with a first division player, but overall future potential of a 60 is not what people saw when they were trying to sign him like rabid dogs, ya know?
Amazing how quickly someone can go from franchise player to mlb regular. Just weeks ago, people were saying not to judge small sample size.
That picture of Luke Jackson is absurd. I love it.
Also, why do you guys think Gonzalez is so frequently docked by other prospectors? Is he not "sexy" enough?
Chi chi doesn't have the highest ceiling, as noted, but does he seem like a back of the rotation guy or more?
Do you think Harvey gets moved?
Aguilar is confusing...
Is Aguilar their 1B of the future or just a AAAA slugger?
Thanks Jason. You wouldn't put an average grade on his hitting, just his power?
Any thoughts on CJ Cron's spring?
Does this change the perspective on Dozier? Or is he still likely a role 5 (rather than a 6)?
Also, what's the outlook on Tellez? I was really interested in him, considering his power potential, in an AL only league, late round pick. We have 30 picks per year, so you really have to keep an eye out.
Some people seem to be high on Mitch Nay. For fantasy, it seems like he has some solid potential.
Meh. This has nothing to do with Jeter. I think we're going to start seeing this a lot more with athletes...just look at twitter. As a college professor, the "look at me" mentality is through the roof for young people, or perhaps the means are just there. It's a different time.
Jason, great work.
If Sonny Gray were still eligible, where would you slot him?
Cecchini has no impact in fantasy leagues? He sure as heck does if you play in an OBP league! :)
Both in the top 10?
On solely offensive output, are they on the same level or still Correa?
I have to go there. Correa or Russell?
OH MY GOD. James Paxton looks just like Nick Franklin (on my computer, anyway)!
Awesome insight. Thank you!
I miscommunicated that, which explains the abrupt response. I get why you feel that way. You stated it clearly. I was wondering if you had any insight as to why the masses have differing opinions on guys like him. It seems that there are always certain guys where there is a clear opinion (even if it ends up being wrong) and guys that are all over the place. It makes more sense to me, as a casual fan, in low A. But I'd think as a guy progresses, there'd be less variation. Nevertheless, there are always guys like him that pop up. Is it because he has that untamed flamethrower feel?
There seems to be a very vague opinion on folty. There's a big drop from #2 to closer.
Also, what do you make of the end of Ruiz's season and playoffs. He was on such a tear. Considering his original scouting reports from Hs, who is the real Ruiz?
I'm surprised there was no mention of Alex Meyer's return to AA. He put together a very nice start and apparently through 100 (though on a hot gun).
He has two plus pitches and his command is a work in progress. Also, you made a post saying bp hates the Astros. Perhaps a little biased?
Thank you both. Very informative!
I know a lot of scouts say they haven't changed their thoughts much on his early stats, so they've left him in a similar spot as before, regarding rankings. In other words, Russell is no better than a top 50 guy, way behind Correa. Do you feel the same way? I realize the stats aren't as important as the scouting, but surely he was doing something right. Has your opinion of him changed since the draft?
Also, I love getting these early in the morning now! And the major league additions are awesome. It's nice to see these regularly again! :)
Paxton...what an interesting prospect. He is unbelievable when he's on. Is his ceiling around a #2, especially considering he'll pitch in SEA?
And what are the thoughts on Zunino? I know there were some concerns after he did less than what was expected in college, but he's been unreal. His power seems very real and possibly more than expected. Can he be a middle of the order catcher?
How did Guerrieri's stuff go from great to okay in one year?
I'm more impressed by the fact that his profile says this:
"pro baseball player in da Cincinnati reds organization"
Twitter really is tremendous.
Kevin, do people frequently confuse your rankings for fantasy rankings? I notice people rarely mention defense when they're complaining or commenting on a ranking.
Why are we comparing a guy that was running for an inside the park, at full speed, to a guy that hit one out of the park at a jog?
Thanks Jason. I know you're quite the Texas guy. On a related fantasy note, I grabbed The Legend in a late round dynasty draft based on your reports :)
I'm surprised there's no mention of Luke Jackson. It's very encouraging (as a fan, not a scout!) to see what he's been doing this year, in comparison to last. Any current scouting reports?
Yes it does. Though the end result makes for a sad reader :)
I'm not sure how you got that info so I'm not sure how to figure that out from what is on the pecota card now. Bummer!
Does this mean there is no way of seeing those numbers in a spreadsheet? Or is that information simply not accessible any longer?
What happened to the scrubs and stars chart from years past? Is that no longer available?
