I still can't keep Shea Hillenbrand and Eric Hinske straight in my mind. One's right handed and one is left handed. Other than that, is there a difference between the two? Nearly the same number of games, AB, 2B, 3B, HR, SLG%, played mostly the same positions, both generic looking white guys...
I can't believe I wrote "your" there. Also, I realize the "only" two years are two important years (prime decline years).
Matt, this is great. I think your the first "stathead" to come out in favor of the Polanco signing. I think all the negativity around the signing is kind of misplaced. Polanco doesn't seem like the kind of guy who would age really poorly -- and he's only two years older than Figgins.
I love this stuff. Keep up the good work and remember that everything good started, not with perfection, but with a proof of concept.
Thanks for the response. Having just moved to Greenville, NC, this is my first opportunity to really watch good college ball (as opposed to going to Phillies games). I haven't yet got a feel for how play translates from the college game to the pros, but I'm working on it.
Bryan, Last week you talked about Kyle Roller (ECU) having a ridiculously good season. But, you also say "the 248-pound junior probably doesn't have a lot of professional potential". I'm curious (because I have no scouting background/knowledge whatsoever) what do scouts see that they don't like? Is it his build? Is it holes in his swing? Again, just curious. Also, sorry this is a week late, I just caught your last column.
Will, how do the hip labrum injuries that sometimes bother hockey goalies compare to what Utley and Lowell are dealing with? For instance Antero Niittymaki from the Flyers seems to have come back from this injury fairly well.
Where\'s the fun? Come on... the season just ended. Who doesn\'t want to think about the future? If you don\'t like it, don\'t play.
PHILLIES: Find left fielder. Don\'t resign Chad Durbin. Sign #3/4 starter and middle relief help. Trade Chris Coste for reliever, though I love him. Win again.
Unrelated... but would someone please tell the FOX guys that Carlos Ruiz is from Panama not Venezuela. I think Tim McCarver has referred to him as the \"Venezuelan born Ruiz\" at least 3 times.
