Should have taken = Should a took
Curse you, Sam Miller, for making me love this game.
It's Barry Bonds wrecking that curve, right?
I remember years ago when there would be a counter-article somewhere shouting that the sample size wasn't large enough to prove the platoon effect exists, so we best move on and pretend that Ethier doesn't suck against lefties.
I could watch Billy Hamilton run all day!
Something about checking out numbers?
Great to see Evans on board. Tell him to stop wearing sandals and flannel.
Vlad swings like the ball is a bee and he's Macaulay Culkin in My Girl.
As a longtime Angels fan, I can remember one time in Guerrero's tenure where I actually heard his voice. Even in commercials he just smiled and held a bat.
Already got mine. I'm a long time BPer and I'm taking a buddy with me who caught in college.
Go to a lower minor league game. The kids are looking for any potential in the stands whenever they can. Guess they have to work their way up that chain too.
Why shouldn't Cuban-Americans be offended? Ain't he the reason there are Cuban-Americans?
You're right, Sam, I am seeing that picture again. Every time I close my eyes, in fact!
Pretty crazy. It would seem odd for a 16 year old to not wait a few more months for potentially more money, as well as not dinging his prospect status by being older than previously claimed. Maybe Beras doesn't know what's going on at all, and the buscones are playing around.
The only reason any of us know our age is because people tell us how old we are, or official records tell us how old we are. Mess with that, and who knows?
There is the possibility of clawbacks, but that would be against Wilpon, not against his employees. It's not like they did anything wrong.
That is the worst Olympics logo I've ever seen.
We all do.
With just under 15 million guaranteed, if it goes sour, the Bucs aren't out much more than a mid-range free agent for one year.
And the age thing is about his older wife, right?
If it's actually player vs. player, and Boras represents many of the top talents, isn't he in a conflict of interest?
No. Don't be stupid.
In all seriousness, it'll probably be edited in soon.
I've seen it twice and it was not below his knees. It hang.
Mr. Goldman, I'll have you know that people that have had a lobe of their brain removed surgically, frequently because of epilepsy, are still often capable of cognition equal to your average person, and would not suffer from such a disability as refusing to use their closer on the road in ninth of a tie game.
Brett Gardner was also in the majors at 24. And from a fantasy standpoint, Dee Gordon has to be in the majors to qualify for fantasy points.
I read your Periodic Table, and just nodded my head, thinking, "Yeah, that's about right."
Goldstein, I'm looking for a good Afghan restaurant in the Claremont area. Know any?
Being a baseball fan and having gone to Redlands East Valley HS, I had no idea that Tommy Hanson went there. Cool.
Even though it would keep him the highest paid manager in the game, the Yankees were asking the manager who won them multiple rings to take less money. It was either a "You're LUCKY the YANKEES still want you" insult offer or a token offer so the Yankees could say they tried to keep him as he walked out the door.
I don't think the TLR's and Pujols' appearance at the DC rally was in their best interests, simply because they should focus on winning baseball games. I actually don't care about their politics, just like I don't care about Goldman's. Unfortunately, I know more than I care to about all three of these men's politics now.
Hey, I'm an Angels fan in SoCal, and the child of Mexican immigrants. And I don't know Arte Moreno's stance on Arizona SB 1070. Can't even find it online. I love that.
What the does raw TAv breakdown look like when you correct for the positional bias? I bet the platoon advantage is even more pronounced.
Sure, it's not on a mountain, but it's in the "High" Desert. Call it a plateau if that helps. Everyone out there refers to going up or down the hill.
Put me down as another person for something actually in the LA area. Of course, I'm in Santa Clarita, so everything is a trip.
Yeah, and I'm pretty sure it's "Goldman," not "Goldstein." Man, you guys need to get it together. I'm going to cancel my membership if I find any typos ever again.
I totally agree with that. People here and elsewhere are guilty of saying something like, "Well, he sucked at 26, but next year he should peak." It gets too easy to apply the rule of thumb. We all do it. It's easy to just take a young career and draw it as the start of a nice parabola. But that's what gets you things like Jackie Rexrode and wishcasting that Josh Willingham could be "Bondsian."
The closest I've ever seen Will get to "Joe Blow WILL get injured" has been "I don't know how Joe K-Rod HASN'T been seriously injured."
And that seems plenty reasonable. It seems like some guys tweak before they tear.
Hey, that's great, but that's true of any business. If I pay for a membership, I would like to not have to deal with intrusive ads.
An appeal to emotion won't work here. This is hard economics. Customers leave if the service is pain in the ass, and other sites with ads at least don't charge.
[insert really long thing here]
That's what SHE said.
You're missing the point. We already pay money. Why do we have to do more to get rid of the ads?
Who the hell ever thought the Maris record was authentic?
While I think you're right that we lack the necessary data to judge the true physical effects of PEDs, that doesn't mean we don't know enough to ban them anyway. Corking a bat is against the rules, although we didn't need piles of data to justify it.
Tell that to the judge, Joe. Stupid laws are still laws.
You can always take your ball and go home, you know.
When I had to think about what a "dba" is, I knew I probably couldn't do it.
George Will's opinion on baseball should have as much weight as Joe Sheehan's opinion on politics.
Good point. What makes Ellsbury such a sacred cow in center?
Change blindness is a very real and very funny phenomenon. Look up the experiment where they change the person who asks for directions, distracting people with his map. Don't see what this has to do with baseball or "GM's not gettting it" or whatever Will's point it.
Hey Will, Daisuke is still totally gonna break out though, right?
I wish they would give the kid a do-over, and send him to high-A to master the level. Even there he would still be young.
Actually, given the circumstances, the exception seems reasonable enough. The Nats have little recourse but to fire Bowden considering the extent of the skimming scandal on top of throwing away 1.6 million on a fake ID. It doesn\'t help his cause that he\'s awful at his job.
Know what I think about Keith Olbermann?
Don\'t really care for him.
As far as regional, California craft beers are great in either San Francisco or San Diego, and you can have it with a nice Santa Maria-style Tritip.
Finish it with Sprinkles cupcakes.
They\'re owned by Duvel and they\'re all fantastic. I love Three Philosophers.
I would say Wahoo\'s over Rubio\'s.
I assume he would then tell Perrotto.
I would have to agree with you regarding Pettite. He\'ll either retire or take less money to stay with the Yankees. Why offer arb to bind yourself to pay millions more than you need to?
Angels: Keep one of Tex or K-Rod. Sort out the left side of the infield. Tell Scioscia not to run as much.
I like the print button because it gives me pure text with no ads. I understand you guys need to make money, but as a paying member, I like the option to get rid of them.
I wonder how long the Rays and Baldelli himself thought he was clinically depressed instead of suffering from a mitochondrial disorder. I certainly wouldn\'t blame them for thinking it.
Kevin, does Brett Walrus\' defense move him to left field, or does he have the arm for right? Or worst-case, first base? I\'m assuming that he isn\'t going to stick at third, and I think most others are doing the same.
I\'m going with the overly general belief that there is a bias against shorter pitchers because they generally have less total muscle mass, and thus less velocity. Less velocity means less opportunity. It\'s essentially the same reason there\'s a bias against shorter position players: because they can\'t hit the ball as hard.
Who is Jeff Pease and how is he related to Dave?
Kevin, past articles at BP have made clear that high-school 1B prospects are bad gambles. Does this make you back off Montero or Villalona, even just a little bit? I mean, those kids aren\'t getting any smaller. Does it even matter since they\'re already in pro ball?
