I second the don't drink and draft recommendation (esp. in an auction setting).
Besides the obvious $30-$40 guys, I think you can definately get some value with some cheap options like Denard Span (excellent speed and contact and a growing LD% rate points to some nice things, just expect him to have a day off or two vs. tough lefties), Nelson Cruz of course will be on some (who am I kidding, all) radars with his current spring but you have to love him esp. with Bradley gone (should hit 25+ HRs and steal about 15 bases, just don't expect better than a .275 BA)
In the middle INF, I like Mike Fontenot and I'm sure being named the starter will boost his value (just don't pay too much esp. last year's high BABIP but I think power is for real) and of course Aaron Hill and Jose Lopez are high risk/high reward guys and I wouldn't be surprised if one or both provide above-average BA and power.
And, again, good luck.
I LOVE Nate\'s website. I usually try to avoid poll numbers but knowing its importance makes me very happy that Nate is taking all the poll info and mixing it together (I hope I\'m not making a mockery of what he\'s doing) and seeing what comes out.
Quite simply: I love it.
Not a problem. I agree, when I read UTK yesterday... I had to stop and re-prioritize my entire afternoon and obsess over what every MLB team needs.
there were some good ideas. I hope we get to do more contests again.
Boo Hoo tbraxton. I never read Olney\'s blog but if you point it out to me - I\'ll be glad to read it. BTW: it was Lee for Fielder, not Cain.
This is too much fun to stop. Marlins trade Dan Uggla and Scott Olsen to the Dodgers for Chad Billingsley and AA INF Ivan De Jesus.
Looking over Ivan\'s year I would hope the Dodgers say no but I still propose this trade because I could see the Dodger front office doing this. But I must ask: does Olsen still hold any viable value?
What about Francoeur for another (arguably) no value guy like Homer Bailey?
I lied. Last, last one: Indians sell high and trade Cliff Lee and Ryan Garko to the Brewers for Prince Fielder and Brian Shouse.
Last one: Yankees send Robinson Cano and Ian Kennedy to the Dodgers for Matt Kemp and Scott Elbert.
Off the top of my head: Mets trade OF Ryan Church and LHP Jonathon Niese to the Oakland A\'s for RHP Huston Street.
The trade should give the Mets some bullpen depth and fill the A\'s need of rebuilding and adding major league ready depth to their OF.
