$60 million is a lot to take "out of it". $5m a year gets a solid reliever like Benoit or Balfour. They already got K. Johnson to play 2b and McCann is huge upgrade over Stewart/Cervelli. I'm not a yankee fan, but I think I'd take Ellsbury, McCann, Benoit and KJ over Cano, Grandy, Stewart and a no name middle reliever.
Yes, more please. Is there a spreadsheet available of all the picks (and their owners)?
Cody Ross is out for the year. I wish I knew about BJ's historically strong finishes before I cut him last week for Andrew Brown.
Now Kluber is a two-start pitcher v. KC and Det. Sit or consider?
That John Harper article could be the worst 5 point plan since Romney's.
Yes, I forgot to mention the Union factor. I know that is an issue too. Thanks for adding that point.
The Yankees' best option is to tell A-Rod he's going to be relegated to only playing v. lefties. That kills his chances of the HR record and he ends his career sitting a majority of time on the bench and getting booed every at bat for all the money he's costing.
Propose a mutual parting of the ways. Pay him a one time severance payment of $20m - $30m and let him be a free agent.
The question is, does A-Rod leave all that money on the table to win over the fans and finish his career and go after the records on his own terms? It's an interesting dilemma.
What about Brian Holman's near perfect game on April 20, 1990? Ken Phelps broke it up with a 2 out pinch hit hr in the 9th, and I was there!
I have an idea that I think would both speed up the game and increase the strategic element - a reliever must face two batters when he enters the game (unless he is on the mound when the third out is made). I'm tired of seeing pitchers brought in to face 1 batter. And two warm up pitches should suffice.
And yes, start games earlier, make hitters stay in the batting box unless they are looking for a sign and limit catcher visits during an at bat to 1 per inning. No limit on catcher-pitcher chats after a hitter has finished his at bat.
Give the third base umpire a stopwatch and like golf, put a pitcher on the clock once he's been warned about slow play.
yes, much much better! but why does Gomez say 6/3 when he's going on a rehab assignment now?
Please identify how many games each player played at a position last year! It used to be in the Annual and is sorely missed. Thanks!
If baseball had a real Commissioner, he would step in and order the Mets to stop this foolishness.
why wouldn't a team like Phillies or maybe even the Angels who might need some bullpen help take k-rod off of the brewers' hands? The brewers eat a $1m of his salary, their cost of offering him the arbitration.
Speaking of handicapping, does BP really need to run banner ads from Wayne Root atop its home page?
Why is this being discontinued???
Can you add a K minus BB pitching category?
Hopefully somebody from MLB reads these articles and comments....it's a shame how poorly baseball has done to market its product.
No more wildcards.
Go to 2 divisions in each league and get rid of the unbalanced schedule.
Limit interleague play to two three game series - one with most logical rival and the other with a different team each year. Creates two different/interesting weekends series but cuts down the current excessive interleague schedules.
Start post-season night games at 7pm est (with the occasional switch to 8pm if a west coast team is involved) so more people can watch the actual games! My 8 year old thanks you Bud for allowing him to watch about 1 inning live per game. And put games on during the afternoon on Sat and Sun. Baseball is going to be competing with football anyway, and football usually has its best games at night (ABC/ESPN Sat night and NBC Sunday night), so compete with the earlier games and give kids the opportunity to watch.
And have a Friday night game during the WS! Even on Thursday night baseball is competing with ESPN college football, so go with a Tues-Wed, Fri-Sun, Tues-Wed 7 game schedule.
Last tip - require relievers to face 2 batters upon entering game (unless inning ends before 2 batters can be faced). Cuts down on pitching changes and hopefully speeds up game a bit. This rule change should not lessen strategy aspects, and in fact might create more opportunity for second-guessing, always a good thing.

How long might Austin Jackson be out?
Where can we find 2010 SIERA stats? Thanks.
what happened to Hellickson tonight? how'd he do?
Will, though not technically an injury question, it does relate to your note on Lilly - who's your best guess as to who gets bumped when Lilly returns, Silva or Gorzy? Or does it just depend on who gets off to the better start? Thanks.
I agree with Sharky on having weekly matchups posted by Sunday late afternoon as many leagues have Sunday night FAAB deadlines.
Can we get 2009 SIERA numbers for relievers too?
Any chance we can get a runs + rbi's category in the PFM?
The PIP's - Player Injury Predictions
besides being easy and catchy, the name conjures up the most well-known baseball health issue of all-time without taking the identical name.
How can you not mention the steroid possibility when talking about Edmonds???
An ability to easily search and access all articles/references on a player would be a grand slam!!!!
Off point a little bit, but considering they could've played Velez at 2nd and Lewis in left, doesn't that make the Bumgarner-Sanchez deal indefensible (esp considering the price of Sanchez and potential of Bumgarner)?
Very interesting. Is the slot money in the public domain? I'm curious as to what amount Wilson signed for since he was looking for 7 figures in 2008.
Is there a way to search by player name somewhere on the site and pull up old future shock articles where those players are referenced?
Yankees 6/140, 11/24
I agree with with the comment as Balfour as a place holder. Assuming Manuel pinch hits a lefty (Jenkins or Stairs?) for Hamels, Price has to come in and then stay in and pitch for as long as he can, which Maddon has to be hoping is at least through the ninth. Another alternative is to bring in Miller to face the lefty PH and then go with Bradford to face Werth (one of those two should face Rollins, depending on his splits), and then go with Price to face Utley/Howard and leave Price in for at least a couple of innings. Assuming he\'s pitching well, there\'s no reason Price cannot go as long as necessary. He is a starter. And with no tomorrow, Maddon must burn Price in order to get to Shields and Garza at home.
