Maybe it's a "strategy" to have a bad bullpen to keep your starters $ down in their arb years since they have less wins on their record.
Maybe it creates a disincentive for a FA starter to sign with a club with a bad bullpen or defense, for that matter.
Does Colin Moran make this list if he's signed?
Awesome Correa write up. It's going to be great. Are you planning on keeping the Top 10 "Under 25" for the Org at the bottom. I really liked that part too.
OBAMA KNOWS HE'S GOING TO LOSE THIS ELECTION! WHY ELSE WOULD HE BE TALKING UP THE WHITE SOX AS HIS TEAM AND NOT THE NATS? GO HOME OBAMA.
I still get sad when I think about Chad Hermansen.
Kevin, how does Correa compare to Javier Baez?
typo? - Billy Hamilton (Hi A Bakersfield)
Any early reviews on Hamilton's defense this year?
Was Moore a big bonus guy in the 8th round or just didn't project as well coming out of HS?
OK - I'm guessing Ahman Green at some point said "Thanks for the push" and Yoenis is thanking his mom for the push to get into baseball since this follows her clip. Maybe? Any other ideas?
A concern of mine as well since Griffey and ARod couldn't have been drafted higher than #1 anyway so it's somewhat irrelevant how much they've exceeded expectations for an aggregate study.
Is Chris Carter out of the top 50 because he was in the majors at the time or because of his play ... or both?
MVP's to be
Chavez in stripes - Crosby a snake
I am still so sad
Someone needs to figure out how to get a minimum innings choice into the formula. It makes a huge difference on the value of middle relievers (and thus pitching) if you need to make 1000 or whatever innings as a Roti team.
Dale Murphy - better person, better player - than Kirby Puckett.
Where could I see Pitch f/x data or is it protected?
Can someone explain the Upside line to me. There is a bold faced "peak" at the bottom which what exactly? On some cards it's the first six years added up, e.g. Alex Gordon, but on others it's not.
The upsides are quite a bit higher than in the past and I had thought this was from extending from 7 to 10 years on the PECOTAs but now I'm confused what it really means.
Why hasn't Tejada's age been corrected in PECOTA?
Isn't Hellickson already in the minor league camp?
I've never understood why Tejada always got/gets left out of these conversations.
Looks like the Upside number is now 10 years not the previous 7 so that's probably some of it.
Those aren't projections in the book but a reflection of how their record "should" have looked for 2009.
I like the tiers and give them a thumbs up. While I don't need the intra-tier rankings, I do think it's a bit weird to have them jumbled up in no particular order.
Is Eli Iorg done?
$9M - that'd be nice for six months of work.
Anyone else have 2 MVP awards and not in the Hall - I'm thinking of Dale Murphy?
I feel badly for McGwire. Not that he didn't make his own bed and all. I'm glad he finally "came clean" but that's the point ... finally. He would have got more points in my book for being upfront most of a decade ago; not after everyone basically already knowing what he had up to. Having integrity means more than a belated "me too" confession after dozens and dozens have already marched down that road. I certainly don't have any real insights into McGwire's heart but that's the view from the cheap seats.
Uhhh - he doesn't get the buyout if it's a player option. :)
It's also possible that winning a few extra ballgames and "making a go of it" the next few years gives you a better chance to sign your young talent to long-term deals.
Hee hee! Kevin, did we just get a preview at your Top 7 prospects? My guess is Stasburg, Heyward, Montero, Stanton, Feliz, Santana, Alvarez but maybe 3-7 aren't solidified until talking to teams/finishing top 11's.
Solid pick of Happ in a tough year. Congrats having a vote to make.
Funny to think now there was some Rios for Lincecum trade talk a few years ago.
People typically call fractures of the distal (towards the fingers) parts of the ulna and radius the wrist even though they are forearm bones. So, you could say he broke his wrist or his arm and be correct.
It's usually better to break the distal part of the radius and ulna than higher up in the middle of them. Distal you can often just cast whereas the midshaft is usually stabilized with surgery.
Despite what the Adjusted Standings show, it's hard to argue that the A's are better than the Giants - having lost 5 of 6 head-to-head meetings.
Loved the quotes; especially "So just step in there and compete and try not to strike out on three pitches."
What! Ellis, Crosby and Chavez all red. How can that be? :)
Well, I suppose the only surprising thing there is that Giambi didn\'t join them in making an all red infield.
Maybin sounds a lot like Chris Young of the D-backs.
Loved reading this. Thanks.
I think roughcarrigan is exactly right. Also, the A\'s were definitely dealing from strength because, if nothing else, they have 3rd/4th starters, 20 HR outfielders, and bullpen.
Holliday will also be worth two draft picks to the A\'s if he doesn\'t re-sign after the season.
It will be interesting to see what the follow up to this deal will be. It may be that with the free agency signings starting in a few days they wanted to make a statement that they were moving in a \"win now\" direction for the Giambi and Furcal\'s of the world.
