When will the Super-Two players start coming up this year?
I really enjoy these stories! Thank you!
See you in Camden Yards!
The first stash list is my first chance to ask WATG (What About This Guy). Is Brinson close? Looking at the Brewers outfield it's hard to see someone not getting hurt soon.
Any insight on Barrett in Arizona?
This column has been a great feature for those of us in deep, but not crazy, keeper leagues! Thanks!
A league I'm in has solved the tanking problem somewhat by saying that teams that finish under a certain point threshold do not get keepers the next year. Keeps everyone pretty honest.
Any thoughts on Arizona's <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=68318">Peter O'Brien</a></span>? He has a pretty impressive stat line in AAA (.337/.362/.683) with 17 <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=HR" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('HR'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">HR</span></a>'s in 208 <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=AB" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('AB'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">AB</span></a>'s but doesn't seem to get talked about.
I'd drop Reynolds of those three although you could make a case for any of them. Reynolds isn't hitting for power, and the average/OBP/SLG is all being boosted by a crazy .405 <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=BABIP" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('BABIP'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">BABIP</span></a>. Reynolds will lose a lot of ground in those stats while probably adding a little power over the season, but that's not something to worry about. Then again, Guyer has magically found some power, but not sure that'll hold up for a 30 year old who has never been more than a part time player over a full season. Thompson is a 4th outfielder in real life, so his lack of <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=PA" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('PA'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">PA</span></a> is going to limit him significantly.
Basically, they're all bad choices in their own way. You can't go wrong with dropping any of them.
Thanks for posting this! My favorite article of the week.
Thanks for the follow-up!
Any thoughts on <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=66719">Willson Contreras</a></span>? Seems like a .937 <span class="statdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/glossary/index.php?search=OPS" onmouseover="doTooltip(event, jpfl_getStat('OPS'))" onmouseout="hideTip()">OPS</span></a> is pretty impressive.
What do you think of <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=102123">Alex Reyes</a></span> as a stash? It seems like for a top prospect he's being overlooked on the basis of his suspension, which ends soon.
Thanks for answering my question!
Is <span class="playerdef"><a href="http://www.baseballprospectus.com/card/card.php?id=99880">Richie Shaffer</a></span> expected in the majors this year? There doesn't seem to be much in his way and he's off to a strong start at AAA (again).
Lenn Sakata- the greatest emergency catcher of all time.
If there's a player that I really want in the end game, I usually start them at a $2 bid (we can do that in our league). You are much less likely to be topped with $3 than with $2, as other teams a) Don't want to spend the extra money and b) assume that you'll go over them at $4.
Thanks! Interesting articles.
"...and it's as though the Phillies camped out for a show nobody else planned to attend."
Funniest thing I've read in a while.
I see this signing as more of a "Machado is unlikely to be healthy enough for SS" deal than a "we love Hardy" deal.
Philadelphia is not the closest city with a MLB team to Monkton. That distinction belongs to Baltimore, a mere 30 miles down 83 South to Camden Yards.
I like Brad Pennington as much as the next guy, but he's not playing SS for the A's- you meant Cliff.
Any thoughts on Matt Downs? He seems to have decent numbers for someone that nobody seems to be talking about.
Any word on Homer?
Any info or guesses on the recovery time for Dallas Braden?
Best of luck! Your writing will be sorely missed. I'm really holding out slim hope that this is an April Fool's joke, but that seems less and less likely.
Jeff Manto references forever!
Who are you going to believe- me or your lying statistics?
I may be overlooking something, but it looks like it's running the PFM using 2010 projections.
Worst pain- the day they canceled Manimal.
Any thoughts on Dayan Viciedo?
Is this also "Steakhouse Throat"?
Billy Ripken gets angry when someone else is considered the double play king.
I agree with more players and a tiered ranking system. It will make my life a little easier- a 16 team, 34 player league like the one I'm in makes you go pretty deep.
As a Baltimorean, I hate "Country Boy" more and more every time I hear it.
I think it's mostly me that keeps asking. Sorry about that. Very deep fantasy league.
What's the prognosis with Oscar Salazar?
Any update on Oscar Salazar? The video of him vs. wall did not look promising...
Since Inge still is catcher qualified in most leagues, where would he fall in this evaluation?
Where does Garret Atkins place in this illustrious field?
Excellent article. I love the historical analogy.
Is Eric Patterson likely to get any playing time, or is he just going to ride the pine?
Has there been any indication as to what happened to Atkins? He seems to have gone from a top slugger last year to under replacement level this year.
Any word on Chris Getz? Is Lillibridge now the 2B, or will Nix be called up?
You can pretty much just change the title from "Under the Knife" to "What else can go wrong with carpoon's fantasy team."
And then I remembered John Maine. I probably have repressed a bunch of others.
As an O's fan, I agree with your assessment of the team, but the Orioles do have a history of trading away well regarded players who don't pan out. Maybe I'm not remembering right, but I don't remember a whole lot of players that they have traded away over the past five years that have made much, if any, impact in the majors. They haven't had a whole lot come back to bite them - maybe Fontenot - so maybe they deserve a little more benefit of the doubt than they get.
I'm not saying I agree with them, by the way. I'd much rather them fail with home grown players that might be something than the failing they have been doing with old imported players. I'm even still a little bitter about the Ochoa for Bonilla trade, frankly.
So what I'm saying is that even though I'm not happy about it, I'll wait and see if Penn turns into more than Denny Bautista.
Isn't McPherson still in the mix for the 3B or 1B job?
Any chance of Manny Ramirez being put into the mix? He\'s not calculated as far as I can tell. Also, is there any way to weigh certain categories more than others? For some reason, my league weighs ERA and WHIP at 1.5, all other categories at one. I have added \"STUFF\" to the mix, since that seems to approximate both categories, but I\'d love it if it were possible to set the factors in myself.
