must have missed when the tigers won a game in the ALCS this year. Or maybe someone needs to do a double take on the front page photo caption.

Welcome to the land of transparent irony. Carroll is a much harder name to mess up than Zimmermann.

Touched a nerve, did I Mr. Carrol? Didn't want to call the salvation of your soul into question, just figured that a professional sports baseball writer who takes the time to issue a declarative opinion on a specific person might have enough familiarity to know the guy's name. Especially when replying to a commenter who spelled it correctly. Since I'm not a professional sports baseball writer, like you Carrol, I guess I didn't realize that's what editors are for! And yes, it was a minor gaffe, not truly worthy of comment. I freely admit I knew who you were talking about. I'm guilty of nitpicking! Since you're a professional sports baseball writer who gets paid because his writings are popular, you might appreciate that I read your column close enough to notice such a microscopic misstep. In summary, there's no need to puff out your chest and roll out the gun show.

Well, let's be honest: if ZimmermanN is healthy and matches the potential he showed before his injury, he'd be the #2 pitcher on the Nats, at least. And if he's only a 3 or 4 on a "good" rotation... is that so bad? I'm pretty sure that would mean anywhere from 20 to 32 teams in the MLB, some or all of which don't have the theoretical "good" rotation anyway, would be fine with ZimmermanN in their rotation.

Don't want to come across as a ass, but repeatedly misspelling the guy's name does tend to under cut the weight one might give your scouting opinions. Also, it would seem that Jordan Zimmerman last pitched in 1999 for SEA, which doesn't really tell me much about Jordan Zimmermann of 2009-2010 of WAS.

$50 million???!?!? What all are you including? JUST interest, principal and "indemnification" (not sure what that means)? Interest on such a loan will likely be a floating rate based on an index. Probably 300-350 basis points above libor, which puts the interest rate at 350-400 (3.5-4%). Even if the WHOLE $500M was financed (which I seriously doubt) that's a max of $20 million a year. It's probably safe to assume pricipal payments would be fairly light at the beginning, let's say $5 million. That leaves a fairly sizable shortfall to be taken up by "indemnification".

You are an observant human. I am not. I will retreat from the field showered in shame.

Some nitpicking user feedback: is you\'re going to give all the systems 4 or 5 stars on the front page, what\'s the point of doing it at all? I mean, the Astros are pretty universally considered one of the worst systems right now, yet they still rate 4 stars? I understand the difficulties of trying to define the difference between a 4 star and 5 star player or not wanting to try and rate players 1 star to 10 stars or whatever, but I suppose I\'d have the same complaint if you rated every prospect 4 or 5 stars without any 3 or 2 or 1 star players. Enjoy your work, though.

I believe the former.... if it was the latter the natural phrasing would have been \"unsignable by EVERY team but the Red Sox\". The use of \"any\" implies that the general opinion of people KG talked to was that the Red Sox were the only team he would have been willing to sign with.

It\'s not my column, but is there a reason we\'ve transitioned from 2 top 11s every week or so to the 1 a week we\'ve had for the last month?
