I'm surprised you did not mention that the Red Sox had the perfect solution to the SS postion in Hanley Ramirez but decided to trade him for Beckett and Lowell.

Tarakas is right about the SIERA article. It is Journalism 101 - "Don't bury the lead."

Dusty also never hurt one pitcher in Chicago not named Mark Prior or Kerry Wood. This old Joe Sheehan article pretty well sums up why Cub fans came to despise Dusty. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=2392

Why exclude pitchers? They are closer to the batter than any of the other infielders. When I was playing ball in high school I witnessed a teammate take a line drive to the privates while pitching batting practice. We were on a side field that had no protective screen for the pitcher, a major oversight in retrospect, but he also was NOT wearing a cup. I've never seen someone experience the level of pain he felt immediately after that. He had to be hauled off in an ambulance and had one of his testicles removed. The whole episode made be so thankful that I had always chosen to wear a cup.

Jay Jaffe (not Joe) had the Rangers at #29 in his Prospectus List. http://www.baseballprospectus.com/article.php?articleid=8707
