Would you equate Dom Smith with a #2 piece in a trade?
Jeff, Mets fan here, has any analysis been done to test the Mets current strategy of building their future around five highly pitchers (Harvey-deGrom-Syndegaard-Matz-Wheeler), four of which have already had Tommy John? With their lack of offense wouldn't it be advantageous to trade one or two for proven offense building a balanced team. Realistically if all stayed healthy would they even have the financial commitment to sign all and bring a contender to Flushing? I had high hopes after the 11 game win streak however this isn't their year.
One comment/correction, The entire package adds up to a potential mid-rotation starter for Matz, someone who, in his prime, can slot in right behind rotation stalwarts Matt Harvey and JACOB DEGROM in the pecking order.
Thanks BP for providing!
Why would Phillips bat cleanup? Is this the projected lineup or optimal?
Thanks Russell for introducing me to the Binary Logistic Regression concept. I would have never guessed hearing about it in a baseball forum.
I just cancelled my auto-renewal. If you go to audio/video subscriptions you'll see a cancel automatic renewal option at the bottom of the page.
Thank you BP!
I am new to PECOTA but from what I can gather they tend to be on the conservative side of the ledger. For players like Wheeler and deGrom is the system taking their minor league stats into their final projection?
How does he compare to what El Duque had in his arsenal when he came up?
What's holding Jimmy Nelson down on the farm? Couldn't he contribute out of the pen? It appears Estrada has saved his spot in the rotation for now.
With Walt Weiss's recent comment regarding Eddie Butler might we see him on the 8th Edition of the Stash List?
Drafted Dozier late in my AL-only fantasy and have enjoyed following him all season. Great read.
What about O'Day for O'rioles closer?
I recently traded Brandon Barnes for Marco Scutaro to hedge on having Brandon Hicks on my roster. Is it worth keeping Scutaro on the Bench/DL or should I drop Scutaro and pick up someone like Alex Guerrero or the great Skip Schumaker?
I would think Bubba Starling could go to college. It worked for Weinke and Weeden.
Does this signing really end their pursuit of Choo? They could use Davis as a 4th outfielder, pinch runner and against lefties that Choo does not match up well against.
Where do you see the Mets batting Granderson if they do not acquire any additional regulars? Thanks
As a Mets fan who was saddened by the news yesterday I appreciate the article. So mmuch was made of Harvey's mechanics and how they could help limit injury. Only to see him end up in the same situation as pitchers with "unsound" mechanics.
Is A Cowgill-Nieuwenhuis platoon in CF an above replacement level option? The OF possibilities are dwindling for the Mets despite being December. From a recent Alderson interview it does not sound like another trade is on the horizon. Hopefully they resign Hairston to platoon with Duda and Baxter. Look at those 5 OF names! Another 70 something win season is in the Mets future.
I am relatively new to Baseball Prospectus, but would be interested in reading about position scarcity. Short, catcher and third appear to be up for some analysis.
Drew's contract shows Boras's ability to find the one team willing to go high dollars. I know there is no such thing as a bad one year deal but Drew and Boston don't mix.
