Valentine's Day is behind us, but here are a few rookie pitchers from the Junior Circuit who Marc is sweet on.

Last week we took a look at some American League rookies who may play the field in 2011. This time around, we'll focus on some brand new hurlers from the Junior Circuit that could impact your fantasy season. If you're wondering why there aren't any relievers listed here, worry not: Mike Petriello will have you covered later this week on the reliever front, so you'll know just where to draft Chris Sale, Jake McGee, Craig Kimbrel, Jordan Walden and others.

Fantasy Focus: AL Rookies to Watch

11

Marc Normandin

Which AL rookies can give your team a boost late on draft day?

It's often the case that what separates your fantasy team from the rest of the pack isn't the player you picked in round one or round two. Instead, the players you picked late in the draft—your sleepers and your riskier picks—are the ones who either pay off or backfire, and in doing so determine the course of your season. Knowing which youngsters are worth a look late in your draft helps, so let's check out some rookie non-pitchers from the American League.

Fantasy Focus: Love Is All Around

4

Marc Normandin

Marc reveals which players he'll be holding a torch for on draft day.

The positional rankings for fantasy baseball will be here soon—once the depth charts and Player Forecast Manager are ready, I can roll them out for you—but in the meantime, I can share my thoughts about some players in a bit more detail than that list format allows. Jason Collette told you which players were marked DTM on his list already—I'll be doing the same eventually, but I was feeling optimistic last night. That means you get to see which players I am unabashedly head over heels for, the ones I am willing to spend a few bucks extra on at auction because, yes, they are that appealing.

Fantasy Focus: Shooting Blanks

3

Marc Normandin

Kyle Blanks may harbor prodigious power in his frame, but it was nowhere to be found in 2010. Was his elbow to blame?

Kyle Blanks had a horrible 2010 season. There isn't any other way of describing the result of his year with the Padres, as he hit .157/.283/.324 and struck out in 38 percent of his plate appearances. There are, however, reasons for why that was the result he ended up with, and those may turn out to be far more important than the campaign itself.

Fantasy Focus: Catcher Rankings Review

7

Marc Normandin

Marc's postmortem of his 2010 fantasy value predictions continues, this time with backstops.

This is a review of my 2010 catcher rankings. This time around, not only will we use auction values for mixed leagues, but also the dollar value for AL- and NL-only leagues. These dollar values come from Graphical Player 2011, and I think these will do a good job illustrating how much I missed by on the players I missed—though, broken record style, the why is more important than the result when it comes to these rankings. All PECOTA projections, dollar values, and other statistics in the parentheses are for 2010.

Fantasy Focus: Stolen-base Redux

1

Marc Normandin

Stolen bases are becoming easier to get from more well-rounded players.

Stolen bases are the most contentious statistic on the offensive side of things in fantasy baseball. Some owners will do crazy things for steals, like drafting players that hurt them in every other statistic. Unlike, say, a player who has a low batting average but hits home runs, there's no carryover effect that increases RBI or R (or OPS in some leagues)—just the stolen base, and maybe some runs, though that isn't guaranteed, either.
