We're producing our first-ever package of updates to the annual book.
We're currently putting the finishing touches on a supplement to Baseball Prospectus 2012 (which is available in many formats at attractive prices this year, in case you don't already have your copy). We'll be releasing the supplement via PDF (and potentially other formats) early next week. The purpose of the supplement is to include some additional material we weren't able to fit into the published version and fix a few oversights along the way. When it comes to 576-page, large-format books compiled in a matter of weeks, we've found there's always something to change. In particular, the update will include:
BP2012 Book Tour kicks off this week, with events in NYC on Monday and DC on Wednesday.
With Baseball Prospectus 2012 arriving at homes everywhere, it's time once again to kick off our annual book tour. This year we'll be making five stops, four of which are confirmed below. Our writers will be on hand to sign books, answer questions, predict Yu Darvish's 2012 WARP, and leak top secret information about Jason "The Professor" Parks. And for all you television and mustache groupies, Jay Jaffe's agent has promised his client will postpone an upcoming photo shoot so that he can be with you, his fans.
Friends, it has been fun, but despite what They Might Be Giants said, the engagements are not booked until the end of the world, but only through the middle of this week. Seriously, guys, if you leave me now I might have to start answering casting calls for Broadway musicals. "The sun'll come out... Tomorrow... Bet yer bottom dollar that tomorrow... They'll play two!" With that in mind, I hope that you will come out and talk about whatever is on your mind with regards to the coming season. You have your choice of Tuesday in New York or Wednesday in Princeton, and if like me you're strategically located between the two, you can have both. Just let us know so we can vary up the ad libs for you. Here is the info:
On Tuesday, Boston BPer Marc Normandin will be joined by Steven Goldman (first trip to Boston in two years) and Jay Jaffe (first trip to Boston on any BP tour ever) at the following two locations:
Fresh off his sold-out performance in Washington, Kevin Goldstein returns to the original toddlin' town with Colin Wyers and Ken Funck for another night of baseball talk, book signin', and ribald humor. No doubt he will also debut another stunning chapeau. No committed seeker of wisdom and truth will miss it. The info:
Fellow seekers of wisdom and truth, at last I can confirm a New York City appearance on our worldwide tour of the East Coast and Chicago. Here are the facts, Jack:
