BP Announcements: Entire Baseball Prospectus Staff Hired by Mystery Team |
BP's big news steals baseball's thunder on Opening Day.
BP World Hindquarters -- The bloggers are coming! The bloggers are coming!
Baseball Prospectus CEO Joe Hamrahi has confirmed that the entirety of the staff of Baseball Prospectus, a “web log” or “blog” website from the internet on which amateurs post articles which reduce baseball to a series of mathematical equations, has been hired by a team in Major League Baseball. “It’s kind of a weird day here at BP,” said Hamrahi. “They really wanted to get fully on board with the recent move toward analytics in baseball, and figured that instead of putting together a department, they’d just hire us.”

BP Announcements: Introducing: Dissecting the Draft |
Kicking off a new series of articles covering the 2013 MLB Draft.
As we roll the calendar over to April, Baseball Prospectus will be ramping up our draft coverage. As has been previously noted, we are fortunate to have partnered with Perfect Game USA, who will be providing first-rate analysis of draft prospects, draft class rankings, and mock drafts as we get closer to June.
In addition to Perfect Game’s content, I will be continuing the “Scouting the Draft" Series, providing look-ins on players throughout the remainder of the spring, including scouting notes and player video. Further, we will be starting next week with a new draft series, “Dissecting the Draft."

BP Announcements: PECOTA Percentiles Are Here |
Announcing the arrival of the 2013 PECOTA percentiles.
PECOTA percentiles are now available to subscribers.
Those of you new to BP, or to PECOTA, might wonder why we publish percentiles in addition to the weighted-mean projections for players, which we’ve already released. The answer is that forecasting is an inexact science; the future is not exactly what you'd call certain. The percentiles allow us to put a range of outcomes around a single-point forecast, to illustrate how uncertain the forecast is and what range of outcomes are most likely.

BP Announcements: Free Days |
Everything at BP is free from Friday through Monday
Everything published at BP from Friday through Monday is free. Why free? Partly because it's the opening weekend of the regular season! But mostly because every once in a while, we like to lower the paywall and let people wander around turning on the faucets, checking the drains, and either telling us they love what we've done with the place or making awkward small talk until they decide it wouldn't be impolite to leave.
If you're just visiting, welcome! We hope you'll want to spend some time on our website, reading our many excellent articles about baseball and browsing our sortable statistics, player cards, and fantasy tools. If you've already subscribed—well, first of all, we appreciate your patronage. But we also hope you'll help us spread the word. Send some articles you've enjoyed recently to your friends, and recommend that they read them. Then slowly, gently, break the news that your friendship is over unless they subscribe. If they refuse, you'll know they didn't really value the relationship. You can thank us later for weeding out your false friends.

BP Announcements: Starting Pitcher Guide Available Now |
Paul Sporer & Doug Thorburn have released their 2013 SP Guide
Back in January, we made you aware of the Starting Pitcher Guide being put together by myself and Doug Thorburn. We could not be more proud of the resultant book that checked in at over 108,000 words of starting pitcher goodness. In the end, there were 436 pitchers analyzed across the 30 organizations along with a supplemental Excel file of colored tiers covering starters and bullpens, including potential closers in waiting and high-strikeout studs who could offer value in holds leagues or even as a dollar guy at the backend of your AL/NL only pitching staff.
Last time out, we whet your appetite with a one player sample that showed the analysis from both myself and Doug on A’s phenom Jarrod Parker. Today, we are offering a full team sample covering the Washington Nationals for you to peruse in order to get an idea of what you will be getting with the SP Guide. It is now available for just $12 via PayPal. This weekend and next will be the two biggest fantasy draft weekends of the season so get yours now.
