Luis Perez tore the UCL in his left elbow on Sunday and will be placed on the disabled list within the next few days. The injury typically leads to Tommy John surgery, although no definitive plans have been made. The Blue Jays’ pitching staff has been hit particularly hard with Drabek, Hutchison, and now Perez all suffering UCL injuries within the past month. Drabek underwent revision Tommy John surgery, while Hutchison is trying to rehab his injury. Toronto as a whole has been fairly healthy with only eight DL transactions—soon to be nine with Perez’s—but if this keeps up, the pitchers may be afraid to throw the ball. Okay, maybe that’s a little extreme. Still, this many UCL injuries in such a short amount of time is either one hell of a coincidence or procedures and protocols have to be under scrutiny.

Subtractions

Nick Markakis was activated from the disabled list and is expected to be in the lineup Friday. Markakis missed 40 days, more than he originally hoped for but still a few weeks quicker than the average of 69 days for outfielders. It may sap his quickness in the very short term, but long term there shouldn’t be any detrimental effects. All you have to do is look at Edwin Encarnacion, who underwent surgery after the 2009 season, as an example. Joe Mahoney was sent down to make room for Markakis.
After much trouble, Lorenzo Cain was activated from the 60-day DL yesterday. Between the original groin strain and the subsequent hip flexor strain suffered during his rehab assignment, he missed a total of 89 days. His second rehab assignment had to be progressed slowly so as to not aggravate either injury. He should take over in center field immediately.
Chris Getz was activated from the disabled list yesterday. Unlike Cain, he is not expected to be slotted right back in the starting lineup. Getz will have to split time with Yuniesky Betancourt. Getz has had difficulty staying healthy over the last month-plus, between the trunk contusion and the lateral lower leg strain. Still, the Royals have to be happy they are starting to get healthier.
Wilton Lopez was activated from the 15-day DL yesterday. Lopez only missed 28 days with the UCL sprain; the average for relief pitchers is much higher—76 days. Coming back so quickly is good news, but it is a little concerning given his difficulties with the elbow and forearm in spring training. Regardless, he passed all of his milestones and completed his rehab assignment without any setbacks so it appears that at least his elbow is ready. He’s going back into the set-up role for the time being. Matt Dominguez was optioned to Oklahoma City to make room for Lopez.

This is an excellent synopsis. I assume that "AGL" represents the estimated length of time the player will be on the disabled list. What does "ATD" represent?
