2012-02-02 15:00:00I need to choose between Dustin Ackley, Jason Kipnis and Jemile Weeks as a long-term option at 2B in my Strat-o-matic league. Which of these guys has the most long-term value? I'm worried about Kipnis and/or Ackley moving to the outfield down the road.
(Danny from NC)
I'd go with Ackley, he appears to be the most complete player of the three, and as best I can tell the Mariners seem committed to him at 2B. He's a much greater asset there than he would be in an outfield corner. (Cory Schwartz)
2012-01-26 13:00:00What are your thoughts on Jemile Weeks "healthy" season and his future/upside?
(stevenpsu78 from York, Pa)
I really like Weeks. He has the type of bat speed you can't teach. If he is healthy (and can stay that way), he could develop into one of the best 2B in the league. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-26 13:00:00Who is the better bet long-term at 2B: Dustin Ackley, Jemile Weeks or Jason Kipnis?
(Desmond from Jersey)
I'd gladly take any of the above and smile the grandest of smiles. Forced to rank, I'd go: Ackley, Kipnis, Weeks. (Jason Parks)
2012-01-24 13:00:00I am in a pseudo-dynasty format where we keep players for as long as we would like but there are salaries attached (and thus theoretically forcing some turnover in the player pool). I have an offer right now on the table of Adrian Gonzalez for Nelson Cruz, Jemile Weeks and Jordan Walden. My team is stacked at every position but 1B (thanks to Ryan Howard's decline/health issues). This trade would leave a hole at my MI position, but I feel confident I can pick up a low-end guy to fill in for Cruz and Weeks. Is this a fair deal? Salaries of Gonzo and the trio I would be sending over are essentially a wash.
(Travis from St Louis)
It sounds like you're looking to win it all this season, in which case it is perfectly reasonable to deal away a young, presumably cost effective guy like Weeks or Walden. It does sound like a steep price to pay, though (I'm assuming this is the usual 5x5 -- is it mixed or AL-only?), and it will definitely matter what kind of guys you think you can replace Cruz and Weeks with. I'd see if I could negotiate it down. (Derek Carty)
2012-01-24 13:00:00SP keepers! The stats are the usual stats (ERA, K, WHIP, wins, etc.) The guys are: James Shields, Josh Beckett, CJ Wilson, Ervin Santana. Do I have them in the right order? (Might keep 2, but probably only 1 while hoarding young 2Bs like Jemile Weeks & Dustin Ackley.) Thanks!
(David R. from Somewhere, USA)
Yes, you do have them in the right order, though I think there's a drop-off from Beckett to Wilson and that Beckett is a bit underrated this year. (Derek Carty)
2011-12-02 14:00:00What would you estimate for the number of times out of 100 the threesome of Dee Gordon, Jemile Weeks, and Jose Altuve has more productive careers than the threesome of Ruben Tejada, Johnny Giavotella, and Kyle Seager?
(goiter6 from MN)
98. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-11-15 13:00:00How do you evaluate the following young 2B in terms of long-term fantasy value?: Jemile Weeks, Jason Kipnis, Dustin Ackley.
(Steve from Pitt)
Kipnis, Weeks, Ackley (Derek Carty)
2011-10-17 13:00:00Thoughts on Jemile Weeks "healthy" season and going forward?
(stevenpsu78 from York PA)
All he needed was to stay on the field to start showing his potential. I'm quite optimistic. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-10-04 13:00:00What were your thoughts on Jemile Weeks as a prospect and now. Finally had a pretty healthy year.
(steve from rain)
I think he has a chance to be very good. Love the Weeksian bat speed. You can't teach what he has. (Jason Parks)
2011-08-24 13:00:00What would you do with the A's? Trevor Cahill has been terrible for the past few months. Brett Anderson is likely out for most of next season. Kurt Suzuki has regressed badly at the plate. Their free agent acquisitions didn't help them contend this season and they didn't deal them at the deadline, so there's no space to let prospects audition. Then again, their prospects (Chris Carter, Michael Taylor, Adrian Cardenas, Michael Choice, and Grant Green) all have some major flaws.
(Tom from Madison)
Besides moving to a new stadium somewhere? Here’s what Beane said in Tyler Kepner’s piece yesterday: “Sometimes, you’re relegated to buying that lottery ticket. Anybody will tell you that the lottery is not a great way to invest your money. But sometimes, you don’t have a lot of options.” Post-Moneyball Beane sounds more and more like post-Super-System Doyle Brunson every day. My advice, though, would be to find a bopper somewhere, since there’s no one in the system ready to hit in the middle of the order. Cahill, McCarthy and Gonzalez should be good enough to make you competitive even with Anderson hurt. Sign Willingham to a reasonable 2-year deal if you can, but don’t go longer than that. Cross your fingers that Jemile Weeks and Brandon Allen can be building blocks. But mostly, find a bopper. Crazy thought: find out how much of Adam Dunn’s contract Kenny Williams would be willing to eat.

this offseason. (Ken Funck)
2011-07-13 12:30:00With the A's season is over, what offensive players should be brought back? The only ones I definitely bring back are Jemile Weeks and Scott Sizemore.
(Tom from Madison)
Well, Kurt Suzuki isn't going anywhere, Chris Carter will be worth playing, and maybe Daric Barton will have hit his way back to the majors by then. Other than that--I was going to say Cliff Pennington (who was actually Oakland's most valuable player last season, according to WARP), though it would be better if the A's could arrange to bring back his glove and substitute someone else's bat. However, I've just noticed that FRAA seems to hate him this season as much as it loved him in 2010. Anyone noticed any big change in Pennington's play in the field? (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-06-09 13:00:00Thoughts on young Jemile Weeks? And any word on Brett Anderson - is this a surgery thing or will he be making his annual visit to land of the lost?
(Jquinton82 from NY)
As good a player as Mark Ellis has been at times, it was really past time to look elsewhere. Weeks isn't going to make anyone forget Ellis on the fielding job (how is it he never won a Gold Glove?)and offensively I don't know that he's going to be anything special, but he should be closer to being a contributor with the bat than Ellis has been in most years. (Steven Goldman)
2011-06-02 13:00:00Lawrie, Jennings, Ackley... Are you high on any prospects likely to be called up soon?
(Andrew from Las Vegas)
Yup, I like all three. You can also keep an eye on guys like Mike Moustakas, Jemile Weeks, Yonder Alonso, Anthony Rizzo, Lonnie Chisenhall, and a number of others. (Derek Carty)
2011-05-09 13:00:00Assuming he can stay healthy, when would you call up Jemile Weeks to replace Mark Ellis at second base?
(Tom from Madison)
After I traded Ellis on July 31. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-08-04 14:00:00Last time I asked about Adrian Cardenas and you weren't too high on him. Now you're skeptical about Chris Carter. Are there any position players in the A's minors you are excited about?
(Dave from Chicago)
From High-A and above, I'm hopeful about Brett Wallace, I like Jemile Weeks and Corey Brown, and I haven't given up on Cunningham or Buck. Josh Horton will be in the shortstop picture at some point, which is worth remembering. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-07-15 14:00:00Hey KG! Jemile Weeks seems to be progressing nicely this season. What is his ceiling and timetable? Do you think he sticks at 2B?
(ashitaka from long beach, ca)
I think he sticks at second, he's actually been better than expected there, and the athleticism is outstanding. There's star possibility there as an absolutely ideal No. 2 hitter. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-01 14:00:00What do you think Adrian Cardenas's ultimate position will be with the A's? The A's seem to love Ellis's glove and then they have Jemile Weeks waiting in the wings. Can Cardenas be a passable shortstop or hit enough to play third?
(Dave from Chicago)
I really worry that Cardenas is sort of the infield variant on an outfield tweener; his bat won't play at third, he can't play shortstop well enough to stick there, and while he's an interesting enough second-base prospect as such things go, Weeks has much more upside, and Ellis is locked in through 2010 with an affordable option for 2011. Even if Cardenas starts hitting at Sacramento, there's reason to wonder if he even has a window of opportunity. (Christina Kahrl)
