BP Annual Player Comments

YearComment
2003 Weber has been quietly effective for several years, working off of a sinker and a stilted delivery. Heís an extreme ground-ball pitcher, and when youíve got a defense behind you thatís got range and hands, itís a good situation for everyone. He posted a 3.66 ground ball/flyball ratio in 2002, and thereís no reason to expect a change in performance going into 2003. Heíll pop up somewhere as the #3 guy in a bullpen.
2002 After a disappointing debut in San Francisco, Weber proved last season that he belongs in the majors. Prior to breaking his ankle in September, Weber was good for one-plus innings and was the Angels' most extreme ground-ball pitcher. If he hits the weights and the andro hard this winter, heíll be a strong contender to play Master Chief Ogre in Revenge of the Nerds VII: Saving Private Booger.
2001 After wandering through the minor leagues and international ball for a decade and change, Ben Weber got a chance and acquitted himself well while in Anaheim. He will hang around, contributing as a one-plus inning reliever. Trust us: modeling isn't the guy's second career option.
2000 Weber has bounced around forever, even spending time pitching in Taiwan. After a nice season for Fresno, the Giants rewarded him with a promotion to their 40-man roster. The chances of Weber's making the team are slim, but he's pitched well enough, never striking out a lot of guys but somehow sticking with the program. The Giants could be in line for a lot of pitcher injuries in 2000, which would help his cause.
1996  No reason to think he'll ever have any significance to the major league club. Unless he's brought in to intentionally bean Frank Thomas or something.
