2008 It's never interesting when a rookie gets his head handed to him and retreats back to the minors. It is interesting when one throws three shutout innings and disappears. Vermilyea, owner of a career ERA of 0.00 and the same walk rate, as well as a great sinker that plunges like the housing market. He did that twice and still couldn't stick. He's a one-trick pony, but until someone solves the trick, maybe he should get to keep playing it.
2006 He`s everything you want in a swingman/reliever role: lots of ground balls, a very low walk rate, and enough strikeouts not to raise any red flags. He should have been in the mix for the Jays` bullpen over the next year or two, but he was nabbed by Boston in the Rule 5 draft, so he`ll have to take his chances in the back of the Sox` pen instead.
2005 Another of the Jays' college draftees, Vermilyea is a sinker/slider guy who gained some fame for tossing a seven-inning perfect game for New Hampshire last summer. Like League, he's an extreme groundball pitcher, one of the most extreme in pro ball. A starter in college, he's projected as a reliever in the majors.
