2015-08-13 20:00:00 (link to chat)Any love for Nick Tropeano these days? Where/when do you ultimately see him fitting on the Angels roster?
(Ben from Manhattan)
He looks like a guy who can strike out a whole bunch of minor leaguers but will have a hard time holding on to a major league rotation spot, even a back-end one. (Greg Wellemeyer)
2014-10-31 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you think of Nick Tropeano ? He has the inverted W motion ala Strasburg so do you foresee arm trouble coming ?
(Paul from Buffalo)
The easy answer is yes, but we just do not know. So many other factors involved. Does his arm decelerate enough? Is the frame susceptible to injury? What are his genetics? It's hard to guess this stuff, which is why I usually just note what I see instead of trying to guess "this guy will be hurt in 2-3 years". (Tucker Blair)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Jason, Have you seen Nick Tropeano and you impressions of him ?
(Junior from Dallas)
Saw him last Saturday. It was pretty good. He's somewhere between a back-end starter (no. 4 type) and reliever. Scouts are pretty split. He looked like a starter to me, but I also saw his best outing thus far and was calling the game on TV. I want to see him directly behind the plate and in a good position to scout it. He'll sit in the low-90s and pop up to 94. I thought his slider command on Saturday was impressive...he had it in and out of the zone when he needed to chase strikeouts. A 6'4" guy but some effort and a lot of arms and legs coming at you. High-energy and a little tightly wound that makes you think "bullpen," but he commanded his stuff well when I saw him. Again, want to see more of him from a better point of view so I can say more definitively. It was intriguing though. (Jason Cole)
2013-04-30 12:00:00 (link to chat)Nick Tropeano and Nolan Fontana both could have the "advanced/polished college player" label attached to them, and both are tearing up their level (AA and A+, respectively). How soon do we see them at the MLB level?
(Ashitaka1110 from Houston, TX)
It comes down to how aggressive Houston wants to be. I would say 2014 but perhaps Houston decides to give them a glimpse of big-league life in September. (R.J. Anderson)
