2013 Treanor's still a member of the International Brotherhood of Backup Catchers, but just barely. Even by his own meager standards, he failed to hit a lick, and threw out just 25 percent of would-be base thieves. The Dodgers can't afford to run A.J. Ellis into the ground as they did in 2012, so it's hardly a surprise that they'll turn elsewhere for backup help, having declined a $950,000 option on Treanor's services.
2012 Despite collecting extra-base hits at a rate around one every three weeks, Treanor drew enough walks to generate positive value with his bat. He threw out 25 percent of would-be base thieves and was about 17 runs below average in pitch framing, according to Mike Fast's study. After the Rangers reacquired him on August 31, he helped their title chances by not appearing in a single postseason game despite being on the roster. The lesson was apparently lost on Ned, who signed Treanor for $1 million to supplement his green catching corps. Expect too much playing time.
2011 Acquired from the Brewers for the great Rainer (Ray) Gustavo Olmedo before the start of the season, Treanor was able to use his defensive skill set and baseball intelligence to supplement a position weakened by injury and ineffectiveness. While extremely limited on offense and likely devoid of value going forward—especially for a playoff contender—Treanor served his purpose in 2010, offering a steady hand behind the plate and bringing his wife, volleyball gold medalist Misty May Treanor, to the ballpark on a regular basis. The Rangers re-signed him to a one-year deal to caddy for Yorvit Torrealba, and can't ask or expect more than consistency on all fronts, missus included.
2010 Injuries limited Matt Treanor last season; it would seem that his sports hernia operation in the 2008-2009 offseason didn't fix the problem, so the surgery had to be repeated.
2009 Yes, Treanor lost his job to a career minor leaguer after suffering a strained left hip in July, and yes, he was released by the Marlins to punt his arbitration eligibility and give Rabelo a shot as the backup, but things are not all bad, as the Tigers signed him to a one-year deal to back up Gerald Laird, and he gets to go home to Misty May after work every day. Clearly, it's not all bad to be Mr. Treanor.
2008 We're contractually obligated to remind you that Treanor is married to volleyball star Misty May. (The enforcing clause in that contract states that if we don't, Treanor will come to one of our events wearing his wife's work clothes. No one wants that.) Treanor is a catch-and-throw backup who will play a bit more this season now that Mike Rabelo is the nominal starter.
2007 Misty May`s husband is pretty much your run-of-the-mill, nondescript backup catcher. Though Treanor was praised for working with a young, inexperienced staff in Miami, Scott Olsen was really the only pitcher he worked with regularly. His league-average OBP was boosted by four intentional walks and a decent amount of time batting eighth, where even the unintentional walks are somewhat intentional.

2010-10-06 10:00:002010 Playoffs Day OneThat's the fun thing with a lot of the postseason rosters. Jason Repko? Dan Johnson? Frenchy? Rocco? Matt Treanor on the bench, when the Rangers were supposed to be the young catching-enabled ballclub? It's a funny old world. The Yankees have Dustin Moseley and Sergio Mitre suited up, for chrissakes. (Christina Kahrl)
