2010-07-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do you think the A's will call up Michael Taylor any time soon? He had a poor first half and was hampered by injury. Has been on a nice little tear recently, though. Previous two seasons in the minors were excellent. I'd rather see him out there than Travis Buck....
(Clark Griswold from Inside a Christmas tree)
Kevin Goldstein knows far more than I do about the situation. Earlier this week, he said he'd be surprised if Taylor were up before September. I have nothing informative to add to that, except that with the A's seemingly out of it but now down Ryan Sweeney as well, it wouldn't hurt to take a bit of a longer look at him than September, with its distortions in terms of talent level, traditionally allows. (Jay Jaffe)
2010-07-29 16:30:00 (link to chat)KG via twitter apparently blasting Wallace/Gose trade: "It's a gamble trade -- you want a guy who is pretty much big league ready but no more than average for his position, or take an upside risk?" and "Your so-called 'hitting machine' has a career .299/.357/.484 line at Triple-A in good hitting parks, and offers ZERO after the bat."
(Jquinton82 from NY)
Interesting. I guess his value really has fallen more than I thought. So has Michael Taylor's though, so I'm not sure the Jays can really hate themselves too much for getting him in the first place. (Matt Swartz)
2010-04-01 13:00:00 (link to chat)What kind of chances do you think Oakland has this year? They can't hit, but that pitching staff seems pretty impressive up and down, especially if Sheets starts over 20 games
(Charlie from Bethesda, MD)
In that division they have more than a fair chance. It's going to be interesting to see how fast they can reload on that offense if some of the holdovers disappoint and they seem to be making a race of it. Will Chris Carter or Michael Taylor arrive in time to provide some relief? (Steven Goldman)
2010-03-24 11:00:00 (link to chat)For fatnasy purposes, who would you rather have: Domonic Brown or Michael Taylor?
(Connor from Chicago, IL)
Michael Taylor, definitely, because his path to the majors is much easier. I think Taylor is going to be at least an average hitter, like, next year. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-03-03 14:00:00 (link to chat)Most rankings seem to have Michael Taylor and Brett Wallace very close, whereas you have them 24 spots apart. What differences between them do you see that others are missing?
(mbring from St. Cloud, MN)
I haven't seen a lot of other rankings, I'm guess I have Wallace lower than most. He's a first baseman with on-base skills but not crazy power for the position, nor even the kind of power you need to star at the position. I just don't think he's a star there. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-01-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)How do you feel, given the succession of events, about trading CarGo, Street, and Smith for Michael Taylor?
(tommy from Fremont)
A lot better about it than I did trading CarGo and two years of Street for Brett Wallace. Either way, Greg Smith's what, a party favor? (Christina Kahrl)
2009-12-17 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Michael Taylor starting in a corner for the A's in April? Does that mean Ryan Sweeney's the CF and Rajai Davis is back to fourth OF? Or is that all too much to hope for?
(Jason Wojciechowski from South Texas)
Hey Jason! If nothing else I'd expect the A's to game Taylor's service time by starting him in the minors, but I don't see why you couldn't play all three if they're your best outfielders. (Jay Jaffe)
2009-10-05 16:00:00 (link to chat)How would you handle the Phils OF post-2009 with 3 all star outfielders and two premium prospects close to ready?
(Jay from Philly)
Next year = same as this year. After next season, Werth will get a bigger deal somewhere else and Michael Taylor will slide in. After 2011, Ibanez will be gone and Dom Brown will slide in. All the while Victorino stays in all likelihood. At least that is how I am envisioning they have things drawn up. (Eric Seidman)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)What's the ceiling on Daniel Descalso? Also, can you think of any other college bats that went from looking miserable to looking superb as Descalso has done? Its been quite the turn around.
(cardsfan89 from St. Louis)
He could be a solid starter, I don't think he's a future stud or anything. Bats going from looking miserable to superb actually happens quite a bit, but it's always exciting. Look at Michael Taylor of the Phillies. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)Michael Taylor....good major league outfielder or future all-star?
(heeler from Peoria, IL)
I think at a minimum, he's somewhere in between that -- an above-average every day guy and occasional All-Star. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-07-15 14:00:00 (link to chat)It seems to me that in prospects-for-veteran trades such as the one Ricciardi might be contemplating for Roy Halladay, teams look more for potential aces (Kyle Drabek) than potential all-star regulars (Michael Taylor). One, do you think this is an accurate observation, and two, do you think it's a wise philosophy? (Also: Zen Arcade ranks among humankind's greatest accomplishments.)
(jeffstoned from (Brooklyn))
I do think that's accurate. When you hear people talk about Philly untouchables (even though it's all speculation) it's Drabek always, and even Knapp sometimes, but never Taylor. Aces are harder to find that All-Star outfielders, and I think that's the big difference. (Kevin Goldstein)
2009-05-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Have you heard from any scouts about Dom Brown? His numbers look great, but have scouts backed them up by saying he's putting together his toolset? As a Phillies fan, I really hope they don't trade either him or Michael Taylor at the deadline this year.
(Taco from Philly)
The tools were always there for a guy like Brown -- you should be excited about him as a PHillies fan. (Kevin Goldstein)
