2013-01-22 13:00:00 (link to chat)What should be expected of Jemile Weeks and does he get the job to begin with ?
(Spirou from Montreal)
Toughie. I think Scott Sizemore could win the job there. I still believe Weeks could turn into a solid player for the long haul. (R.J. Anderson)
2011-09-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)What do you see in Scott Sizemore? Iím weighing keeping him as one of my 15 MLB keepers in a 14 team H2H points league. This is not the most exciting keeper choice in the world but I donít want to be stuck drafting the likes of Brandon Inge again or wasting an early pick on a below average player. 3B is such an ugly position to fill if you donít have an elite player. Do you see him being materially better than his career line to date (.236/.325/.372, 13 HRs in 156 games)? If not, then heís just a replacement-level player in my league as the top 3B available in this yearís draft were players like Betemit, Tejada, Encarnacion, Peralta, Freese, Polanco, etc.. Because of his youth, perhaps heíll continue to improve? Where do you see his near-term ceiling while I wait for the likes of Will Middlebrooks and Cheslor Cuthbert to mature? FWIW, he's battling players like Sands, JD Martinez, Altuve, Brandon Allen and Guerra for that last keeper slot.
(ORWahoo from Oregon)
I like Sizemore, but only in deeper leagues. He just doesn't have enough power or speed to really be an asset in mixed leagues. I think double digit homers and maybe a small handful of steals, but I don't see 20 HR or 10 SB from him next year. And he strikes out a lot, which will cause him to rely on a high BABIP to post a good average, which will be difficult to maintain without great speed. I think decent power without a good average or speed makes him a tough guy to endorse for anything other than an AL-only league play. (Derek Carty)
2011-07-13 12:30:00 (link to chat)With the A's season is over, what offensive players should be brought back? The only ones I definitely bring back are Jemile Weeks and Scott Sizemore.
(Tom from Madison)
Well, Kurt Suzuki isn't going anywhere, Chris Carter will be worth playing, and maybe Daric Barton will have hit his way back to the majors by then. Other than that--I was going to say Cliff Pennington (who was actually Oakland's most valuable player last season, according to WARP), though it would be better if the A's could arrange to bring back his glove and substitute someone else's bat. However, I've just noticed that FRAA seems to hate him this season as much as it loved him in 2010. Anyone noticed any big change in Pennington's play in the field? (Ben Lindbergh)
2011-06-27 14:00:00 (link to chat)On a scale of "1 to Bill Bavasi" how bad was the Scott Sizemore trade for the Tigers? A guy who can possibly play for a reliever who had been DFA'd a month prior.
(lemppi from Iowa)
Sizemore was clearly in Leyland's dog house, so they had to get something for him. I don't like the trade, but there were some factors there. (Kevin Goldstein)
2011-04-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is it time for Scott Sizemore to play in DET and for Will Rhymes to be "scrappy and gritty" someplace else?
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
I thought opening day was that time. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-09-21 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hi Marc Wanted to know whether you had some opinions as to *why* some of these players haven't developed as some of us had hoped: * BJ Upton * Matt LaPorta * Justin Masterson * Scott Sizemore * Matt Wieters Thanks.
(Phoebus from Mobile)
Upton has just not been able to keep his BABIP and batting averages high enough, but he's had plenty of power when healthy and he's been great on the basepaths. He's also a fantastic defensive player. LaPorta is a curious case, as he was supposedly all better in terms of health and his swing mechanics, but hasn't been able to consistently produce. Masterson pitches in front of a horrible defense and can't get lefties out to save his life. He could deal with the LHB thing if the defense was better, but the combination of the two has just ruined him in 2010. Sizemore has just 143 plate appearances, so let's wait on calling him a disappointment. Wieters was over hyped and has actually performed well for his position and his age, but the power just isn't there yet consistently. (Marc Normandin)
2010-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do the Tigers have enough offense to rise back up from their current swoon or will they have to search for a bat (or two) this summer? Is it worth the cost to attempt to track down the Twins given that Twins seem like a superior team right now? Thank you.
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
I think Ryan Raburn needs more playing time, but where they need the most help is up the middle. I think they still have a fine shot at catching the Twins, but it would really help if Scott Sizemore could contribute more offensively. He's been brutal. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-02-17 16:00:00 (link to chat)If the Tigers secure Johnny Damon, and perhaps even Felipe Lopez on the cheap, would your opinion on them contending in the AL Central improve "considerably" or just "incrementally"?
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
It seems like Scott Sizemore is going to be ready sooner rather than later, so I'm not sure Lopez would help. I think adding Damon might help a little, but Ryan Raburn is a pretty good player in his own right. I'm just not sure where Damon would be that big of an upgrade. I think the Tigers have a pretty good shot already, however. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-02-18 14:00:00 (link to chat)Scott Sizemore - The last 2B prospect I remember getting such high marks on being "scrappy" was Dustin Pedroia. And their minor league numbers aren't mindblowingly different. Any reason why Sizemore can't succeed as Pedroia did?
(ericmilburn from San Francisco)
Because I could pull out 26 guys with that Pedroia profile, and we'd end up with just one Dustin Pedroia. That said, I actually really like Sizemore and think he could hit .270-280 this year with 10-12 home runs and 30 doubles, and that's pretty good. (Kevin Goldstein)
2010-01-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Hi CK - Love it! Any prospects that you have unexplained affinities for?
(iorg34 from Minny)
Todd Frazier, because the bat will play. I find myself hoping Zack Cozart gets taken seriously, given that Paul Janish isn't really a solution, and I'm interested in how Tommy Manzella pans out. It's hard not to like Scott Sizemore and Alex Avila for the Tigers. I'm interested in seeing how Jose Ceda's comeback goes. I think this is the year for Brandon Wood, or at least I hope so. I root for Hank Conger. I'm more fond of Ian Desmond and Shairon Martis than probably makes sense. (Christina Kahrl)
2009-12-11 13:00:00 (link to chat)Looks like Scott Sizemore will get a shot to be Detroit's 2B. I think he has a chance to develop into an impact bat. Overly optimistic?
(rogero from philly)
I think 'impact' is a bit optimistic, but I'm a big Sizemore fan and think he'll be at least as productive as Polanco was. (Kevin Goldstein)
2008-11-12 14:00:00 (link to chat)Do you see either Scott Sizemore or Will Rhymes ever becoming the starting 2B for the Tigers?
(Steve from Detroit)
Neither system sucks, but you are kind of wasting a lot on a 360/PS3 if you don't have HD. Personally I have a PS3 because movies are important to me and the media capabilities were just as important. (Kevin Goldstein)
