2008 Need can make consenting adults do strange things, like bringing in Jason Simontacchi and then wondering how that could possibly have been a good idea
2005 He certainly got some mileage out of that initial 11-5 season. Paying too much attention (read: any attention at all) to win-loss records can lead you by the hand to some faulty decisions. He may be an adequate swingman, but he's not worth it if he makes anything north of the league minimum. Simontacchi's foundering in the majors is often what becomes of "command guys" who get by with middling stuff. Invest well, Jason.
2003 How often does a team get a guy out of nowhere to toss 15 quality starts in 24 starts? Simontacchi doesn’t throw hard (of course), so he was particularly dependent on his defense. That doesn’t bode well for his future. Proud veteran of Italian national Olympic team, his Cinderella story has been squashed as flat as if the lady’s stepsisters were Claudia Schiffer and Fairuza Balk now that the Cardinals have hauled in Chris Carpenter, Joey Hamilton, and Brett Tomko. He’ll have to fight to win the fourth or fifth slot in the rotation, but he’s been going uphill all along, and he got here anyway.
