DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)What's your take on Gabriel Guerrero and Domingo Santana? GG didn't make BP's top 50 or even honourable mention and Santana wasn't eligible. Is the top 50 extra strong this year? Are their strikeouts going to prevent them from being stars?
(hotstatrat / John Carter from beautiful Tuesday evening)
Guererro just isn't there yet. He's a really talented player that I know many on the BP team like, but he's not quite Top 50 material yet. I can see him entering into the discussion for the back of the Top 101 this off-season.

As for Santana, I think there are pretty big questions surrounding the hit tool and just how much of an impact bat he will have long term. I know people like him and with good reason, but liking him doesn't always equate to Top 50 or Top 101 status. (Mark Anderson)
2014-07-03 19:00:00 (link to chat)having a hard time with good bench players on my team. Josh Harrison, Domingo Santana, Viciedo Willingham and Rios I have a present. I am looking at kike Hernandez Logan Morrison marwin Gonzalaz and Jnuior lake. what would be your call out of these guys for back up bench hitters in dynasty league points.
(OB1 from NYC)
Lake is a combo guy who will kill your average. Marwin has a ton of positional flexibility and can provide positive production a bit. LoMo is going to give you a low average and middling power. and Hernandez is a wild card. Wold advocate for Marwin, LoMo, Lake, then Hernandez. (Mauricio Rubio)
2014-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Hello Jeff: What do you think about Domingo Santana? Is there a good chance he gets called up after the all-star break, and can he contribute decent hitting numbers for the Astros? Long term, high ceiling type or more of a high floor type?
(howling wolf from Bethesda MD)
Yeah, I'd bet he sees the majors this seasons. He's going to hit for power and strike out a lot, which should make him feel right at home in the Astros lineup. He's not going to be a middle-of-the-order hitter, but bat him sixth, let him hit .250 with 25 home runs and call it a day. The Phillies sure would take that right now from their right fielder. (Jeff Moore)
2014-06-26 14:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Domingo Santana?
(Jim from Houston)
People forget about him too much. Fantasy owners and Astros fans will have to take the bad with the good when watching Santana at the major-league level, but his power potential is legit and I think he'll hit enough for it to be usable power. If everything goes right, and I recognize that it rarely does, I do think the Nelson Cruz comparison is apt. If I dream, I could see a .250-.265 batting average and 25+ homers. (J.P. Breen)
2014-01-27 13:00:00 (link to chat)I'm a bit surprised not to see both Vincent Velasquez and Lance McCullers off this list? Both had pretty good years and are expected to get better. Domingo Santana also should have a case as well. What made you not have them on the list?
(YP from Houston)
Other players offered a more convincing case. (Jason Parks on the Top 101 Prospects)
2014-01-29 19:00:00 (link to chat)If you had to rank these OF for dynasty purposes: Phillip Ervin, Nick Williams, Raimel Tapia, Domingo Santana and Jorge Bonifacio.
(Connor from Dallas )
Wow, you hit on a lot of semi-under the radar guys I love here. Tapia, Williams, Santana, Bonifacio, Ervin. But I think it's fairly close all the way around except for Ervin. (Ben Carsley)
2014-02-10 13:00:00 (link to chat)Thoughts on Domingo Santana? He's been young for the level, but hitters paradise...
(Doug from OH)
The power is legit and he is patient enough at the plate to get on base at a decent clip despite the strike outs. .250/.340/.460 is a realistic possibility and that's a nice player. (Jeff Moore)
2013-07-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Who has more impact potential between Rio Ruiz and Domingo Santana? What will each contribute at the major league level if the tools/skills turn into production?
(Kevin from Houston)
Santana. Not sure Ruiz can hit. (Jason Parks)
2013-06-25 13:00:00 (link to chat)Mr. Parks - thanks first & foremost for heading up BP's amazing prospect coverage. Your work is indespensible. I was hoping you could shed some light as to the relative lack of prospect love for Domingo Santana. The kid had a 900+ OPS last year as a 19 year-old at High-A & PECOTA hung the exact same three comps on him as Miguel Sano in the annual. What gives?
(David W from Atlanta)
Thanks. I think people fear the swing and miss in his game and how that will play against better pitching. He doesn't make a lot of contact. Honestly, I never look at PECOTA and I really don't care about those comps. They don't work for me. Santana is like Sano because of the big raw power, but he isn't on the same level as a prospect and I don't really like the comp. (Jason Parks on the Midseason Top 50 Prospects)
2013-06-04 13:00:00 (link to chat)Paul, good afternoon bigger impact next year for houston Domingo Santana (OF) or J.Villar (SS)? rate the 2nd half rotation impact: Sonny Gray ,Esmil Rodgers,S.Nolin and K.Zimmer
(JohnnyT from NJ)
I'll say Villar because of position and speed translating quicker. Rogers if he starts, Gray, Nolin and Zimm (not sure he makes MLB this year) (Paul Sporer)
2013-05-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Domingo Santana someone to be excited about?
(Dan from NYC)
Got my first look at him for three games this past weekend, and I'll see more throughout the year. I think so. He'll flash big raw power to all fields. The approach really isn't bad given his age. He's not afraid to shorten up here and there and go the other way, but he'll also get long at times and miss stuff in the zone. Decent runner for his size (he's a monster) who should be passable (but not great) in right field. Easy plus arm. Has first-division potential. (Jason Cole)
2012-09-20 13:00:00 (link to chat)What are your thoughts on Domingo Santana? Does he garner Top-100 consideration? In High-A this year, he performed at essentially the same offensive level as George Springer, but was 3 years younger. Obviously, not much as much speed or defensive value as Springer.
(Adam from Houston)
I haven't started working on the top 100, but Santana has been getting positive reports all season, and I'm a big fan of the power potential. Lots to question as well, but he's made improvements and the raw juice in the bat is impressive. I'd take Santana over Springer. (Jason Parks)
2012-10-08 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Domingo Santana a top-50 guy for you?
(Lil' Sebastian from The Barn)
How is heaven treating you, Lil' Sebastian? We miss you here in Pawnee. Your funeral is still the only time I've ever seen Ron Swanson shed tears.

Santana isn't top 50, but he could sneak into the 75-100 range... haven't really thought about it much yet. (Bradley Ankrom)
2012-07-30 13:00:00 (link to chat)Would you rather have George Springer or Delino DeShields in a dynasty league? DeShields quietly putting up SBs.
(Joe from San Diego)
This is a toughy, and I'm glad the question was submitted prior to the chat because it gave me plenty of time to go back and forth on my answer. I'd probably take DeShields in a dynasty league due to his category dominance (75 SB) and position. He's also younger than Springer. Both have some serious boom/bust potential, but I'd gamble on DeShields. Trailing both, but interesting in his own right, is Springer's teammate Domingo Santana. His power comes at a cost, but not the worst dynasty stash option in his own right. (Josh Shepardson)
