2013 Between the middle of October and the end of December, Sandy Rosario was included in five transactions involving four organizations. He throws a fastball in the mid-to-upper-90s and backs it with a slider (his primary secondary offering), changeup, and curveball.
2012 Rosario led Marlins minor leaguers in saves while spending the majority of the year at Double-A Jacksonville. After a towering K/9 in 2010, Rosario returned to earth last year, striking out less than a batter per inning. He received a call-up in September but was used sparingly, averaging nearly a week between appearances. Rosario will likely start the season as the closer for Triple-A New Orleans, where he went 4-for-4 in save chances before his promotion to Miami last year.
2011 Part of the system's bevy of Latin talent, Rosario is a Dominican who has spent portions of the last four years at Greensboro. Although he was an old man for the Sally League, moving to the pen finally allowed him to open up and throw (although he continued to average over two innings per appearance), using a solid mix of sliders and a mid-90s fastball. Since he was going to have to be exposed to the Rule 5 draft or get added to the 40-man after the season anyway, the Marlins promoted him to the majors, a fairly extraordinary move given that the guy was pitching in Low-A in September; he promptly got into the history books by giving up homers to his first two big-league batters. Nevertheless, the results are less important than Rosario's possession of a live arm, and he'll have a shot at bullpen work in 2011.
