2007 Having fallen from touted Twins prospect to journeyman outfielder, Restovich is basically good for a .270 average and 20 homers at a Triple-A club near you. In 2007 that looks to be Columbus, Washington`s new affiliate. Restovich was put on the 40-man roster and might have a shot at a platoon role with the Nats, but remember, that`s his upside.
2005 Sometimes a guy goes stale after enough time spent marooned at Triple-A, but let's face it, leaving the PCL radically changed Restovich's outlook as a power source, and hitting for power is practically his only offensive asset. A broken collarbone suffered during the winter (slipping on a patch of ice is a hazard up north, donchaknow) shouldn't be a problem by the time spring training rolls around. He's going to need a good camp to avoid being dealt or outrighted off the 40-man roster.
2003 Restovich gets compared to the usual suspects in right field: Tim Salmon, Adam Dunn, and inevitably, Tom Brunansky. None of them really work. A guy with Brunansky’s bat but not his glove sounds about right, since Restovich is more of a bruiser. He needs work on his defense, but it’s expected that his athleticism will make him a good outfielder in time. He has options left, so he won’t be the first choice to win a share of the right field or DH jobs, but if anyone falters, he’ll be ready. He slugged nearly .700 against lefties in the PCL in 2002, so he could carve out a platoon role.
2002 Restovich is veering dangerously towards the precipitous Chad Hermansen career path. He regained some of the power that had vanished during the 2000 season, but without sparkling peripheral numbers. The Twins don't appear thrilled with his defense, which means he'll be competing with eight zillion guys for playing time on the corners. He'll start the year in Triple-A and is unlikely to get a shot at the majors for at least another season or so. The raw bat speed is definitely there for Restovich to be a legitimate power threat.
2001 Mike Restovich is a large human being who showed up in camp out of shape and became another slow starter among the team’s prospects. He’s got a little bit of the Andy Allanson problem: how does anyone 6’5” not throw hard or hit tons of home runs? In his defense, he’s very young, and the Florida State League is no place to try to make a living hitting for power. He may repeat the FSL, but a good start will get him to Double-A quickly.
2000 The third member of the Twins’ trinity, Restovich turned down a Notre Dame scholarship to sign. He’s a big kid with power to all fields who knows what to do with different pitches and knows how to drive the ball. His defense in either outfield corner needs work, but he has a good arm, so right field should be his eventual destination. The Twins are conservative about call-ups for hitters, so he probably won’t come up until 2001, after Cuddyer and LeCroy.
