2013 It's too bad, but Recker's name is sadly not descriptive of what he does to major-league pitching. It works all right as a description of what major-league pitching does to him, though. Unfortunately for Recker's hopes of being a backup catcher, this seems equally true on defense as on offense—to be an effective catch-and-throw type you have to actually catch and throw, which doesn't seem to be Recker's game. With Buck on board and D'Arnaud coming to a major-league field near you sooner rather than later, Recker's window for a big-league job is appropriately small.
2012 Anthony Recker is a 28-year-old backup catcher drafted in the 18th round of the 2005 draft, and we're pretty sure that even A's fans have no idea who he is.
2011 Catcher Anthony Recker has plenty of power and could get some at-bats in the big leagues this year as a backup if the need arises.
2010 Anthony Recker has a similar skill set and frame as Landon Powell; he could get his chance behind the plate considering Powell's track record of getting hurt.
2009 Anthony Recker hits well for a catcher, but not well enough to overlook his defense.
2008 "A Tale of Two Seasons," starring Tony Recker. First half of 2007: 1000-plus OPS at High-A; Second half: sub-600 OPS at Double-A. Reality? Probably somewhere in between. Recker has power and patience to be sure, but he also has a long swing that will probably always suppress his batting average. That's the offensive profile of a future backup, but his defense still has a long way to go for him to have value in that role.

(Tom from Eugene, OR.)
Home-Recker is the best-looking player in baseball. Not great at hitting, fielding, or any of the other yardsticks by which we traditionally evaluate players, but he deserves to be recognized for what he does do well. (Ben Lindbergh)
