BP Chats

DateQuestionAnswer
2014-07-28 19:00:00 (link to chat)Was there ever a moment when Tigers fans missed Ryan Raburn?
(Zachthewriter from Tiffin)
Probably the second half of last year when Matt Tuiasosopo metaphysically disappeared. He's a role player and became persona non grata when he was the de facto starting second baseman, and that wasn't good for anybody involved. He also always, ALWAYS had a big hit in a given White Sox series. (Matt Sussman)
2012-11-28 14:00:00 (link to chat)Considering the Rays luck with "buy-low" types of guys, plus noted possible interest in Chone Figgins and Ryan Raburn, does either player have anything serviceable left in them to make them another possible future success story for the team? Chone's tenure in Seattle seems to say that he wasn't a great everyday starter, but definitely didn't deserve to get mothballed as he did(considering Seattle's lineup and Safeco's park factors). Also, which team sounds most likely to give Grady Sizemore or Jason Bay long enough looks to see if either can regain past statuses as star-level players?
(jlarsen from chicago)
I don't know--what about Figgins suggests that he has something left? It doesn't seem to me that he was unjustly marginalized in Seattle. I'd rather take a chance on Raburn.

I'd say the Indians would be a favorite for both Sizemore and Bay, though both players are probably "minor-league deal with invite to spring training" types at this point? (Ben Lindbergh)
2012-07-24 13:00:00 (link to chat)Just wondering if there's any hope for Ryan Raburn or Sean Rodriguez now. I thought they were great MI sleepers in April.
(Francisco from Toronto)
Raburn's BABIP is only .225 where's he's been comfortably over .300 in previous seasons. He appears to be walking and striking out at about the same rate as last season, but he wasn't really that valuable last season. I'd want to check out his approach a little bit more closely to see what's changed, but unless his bat speed is totally gone, he'll probably be better in the second half. But he won't be so much better that the Tigers will regret getting Omar Infante.

Sean Rodirguez just isn't that good a hitter. The problem this year is he's walking less than last season (and his BABIP in 2010 hasn't been repeated), but he could still be useful as super-sub reserve in real life. In fantasy, I don't see it. (Dan Turkenkopf)
2012-06-12 13:00:00 (link to chat)Does Detroit ultimately win the A.L. Central?
(Yefrem from Saskatchewan)
At this point, I think you have to say no. Even if the first two months don't change your opinion of a team, and even if you don't think five games is too much to make up, five games is a LOT to make up on two different teams. I think Detroit does not ultimately win the A.L. Central, and somehow Ryan Raburn gets blamed. (Sam Miller)
2011-05-23 13:00:00 (link to chat)Is Ryan Raburn even worth holding onto in AL leagues at this point?
(paulbellows from Calgary)
You can gauge my fantasy expertise, or lack thereof, by the fact that I traded a $20 Jon Lester for a $5 Ryan Raburn in my 12-team AL-only league this spring. I'm still holding onto him and hoping for the best, but I'm doubtful he's going to see anything close to the 500 ABs I was hoping for in spring. I still believe he has hitting talent. He's not going to hit for a great average, but his power is good enough, and his glove will help keep him in the field. However, Boesch is pushing his playing time, and Detroit is in a position in the division where they may be less likely to be patient with Raburn's early struggles. (Mike Fast)
2011-01-18 13:00:00 (link to chat)Can Ryan Raburn put up a full season? If he hits all year like he did(again)in the second half last year, he'd be quite the bargain.
(singledigit from San Diego)
.274/.333/.466 career hitter in 1079 plate appearances. He's hit RHP better than the league average the last two years and crushes lefties. I like him quite a bit, the Tigers just need to give him the plate appearances. If he was promised 600 plate appearances tomorrow, I would draft him in a heartbeat. (Marc Normandin)
2010-06-02 13:00:00 (link to chat)Do the Tigers have enough offense to rise back up from their current swoon or will they have to search for a bat (or two) this summer? Is it worth the cost to attempt to track down the Twins given that Twins seem like a superior team right now? Thank you.
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
I think Ryan Raburn needs more playing time, but where they need the most help is up the middle. I think they still have a fine shot at catching the Twins, but it would really help if Scott Sizemore could contribute more offensively. He's been brutal. (Tommy Bennett)
2010-02-17 16:00:00 (link to chat)If the Tigers secure Johnny Damon, and perhaps even Felipe Lopez on the cheap, would your opinion on them contending in the AL Central improve "considerably" or just "incrementally"?
(lemppi from Ankeny, IA)
It seems like Scott Sizemore is going to be ready sooner rather than later, so I'm not sure Lopez would help. I think adding Damon might help a little, but Ryan Raburn is a pretty good player in his own right. I'm just not sure where Damon would be that big of an upgrade. I think the Tigers have a pretty good shot already, however. (Tommy Bennett)
2008-01-17 14:00:00 (link to chat)Marcus Thames: could the Tigers potentially move him for bullpen parts (hopefully a reliable set-up man), or should they?
(David from Winston Salem )
If they got something of value, sure, but I say that more in the hope that they'd use Ryan Raburn a whole bunch, and not as some sort of endorsement of their adding Jacque Jones. (Christina Kahrl)
